Quick off-season preview now that the deadline is over. The percentages are percentage of the salary cap.
Fox 37M - 24% (will likely get an extension starting in following season, but ending contract)
Vassell 27M - 17.5%
Barnes 19M - 12% (ending contract)
Keldon 17.5M - 11%
Victor 13.4M - 8.7%
Castle 9.6M - 6%
Sochan 7M - 4.6%
Branham 5M - 3% (ending contract)
Wesley 4.7M 3% (ending contract)
Julian 3M - 1%
10 players: 143M - 91% of the cap (expected to be 154M)
Spurs will not have cap space.
Two roster holds for the two first round picks. We also have a second round pick.
Free Agents:
Chris Paul
Charles Bassey

Jordan McLaughlin
Bismack Biyumbo (or whatever buyout center we sign)
Exceptions:
Mid level ~14M
Bi-Annual ~5M
Bird rights: Mamu, Bassey (can sign them for whatever)
Non-Bird: Chris Paul, McLaughlin (Can resign with up to125% raise.)
Veteran
Our roster makeup is generally (some players obviously play multiple positions like Castle)
Center: Wemby
Forward: Sochan/Julian/Barnes
Wing: Vassell/Keldon/Branham
Guard: Fox/Castle/Wesley
So with the five open roster spots, we need a couple centers, a forward, wing, and guard. With how the draft looks, my best guess is we take a forward and a wing with our two picks and both will be shooters... unless we trade one pick back to a later year like we did last year.
If Chris Paul wants to come back as the backup PG, we could sign him for up to ~13M without touching our MLE.

For me draft picks are usually more hope than what is eventually realized.
I think they use one and maybe use the other to trade for a D&3 forward, but more likely use it as a pick or trade it back for multiple picks in a future year.Quote:

At this rate, I don't think Victor is defensive player of the year. I know he's been sick but he's fallen off terribly on defense in the last month. I think I'd have JJJ and Amen in front of him. He's gotta turn it around.

Agree. Need Mitch time to be done as interim head coach. Need Pop to get in their face.

Blocks matter for sure but this dude is just standing around when he should be closing out. He's not playing smart defense and is frankly lazy at times.

I wish he would sit out the skills and ASG, or maybe play just a few minutes of the ASG. Take a week to get his **** together and recover from whatever respiratory virus he has and get back to how he played in November.
He's long and has a great shot
He has good athleticism, I like his drive through the lane for a dunk. But more than anything he can stretch the floor with his shot, I guess he projects as more of a wing than a pf.
If I had to criticize he Looks like he played against some smaller teams, not sec type basketball. I don't think he would have that post advantage in the pros which is why I said sf and not pf.
Just watching the highlights I wonder what is wingspan is. For some reason his arms don't look too long for his height and size. Maybe a little flat footed wonder about his quickness on defense,
But I like him, great shot, strong to the basket, and length.

I think the reasons he goes later in the draft is that he plays for a smaller school, so lower competition, and he is a junior (but will be almost 21 on draft day.) He is a few months older than Castle. I expect him to be a 15-25ish pick. But he is basically the only 1st round PF that can shoot threes. Asa Newell is generally considered the top PF, but he's like 30lbs lighter than Fleming and his 3pt is 29%. However, he is putting up 15/7 on 55/29/75 while playing for UGA in the SEC. He's a safer bet... but do you want to draft a forward that you hope can develop a shot to play with Sochan?

I warched Newell some in a couple games. He has a better inside game, but you are right lol. I agree Newell looks safer, but I like the upside of Fleming. His shot and length is something to work from. Partly is I'd like to see the Spurs work away from their small ball lineup when wemby is out.
From what I've seen I like the duke center mauluch or whatever his name is, the way he runs the court reminds me of dikembe. Plays different but I like his size inside at times next to wemby but more to come in for wemby,
When we go small, just one time I want to see us go with the nuclear speed option.

It is weird you're right but our defense is layups when wemby is out.
