Caleb Martin was -10, 1/6 from the fired and 0/3 from 3. And his shot looks completely broken. What about that screams that he's good at basketball? Let's compare him to say quentin grimes for example.

You could tell he's a much better defender than grimes and he can guard much bigger players than Grimes can. Did some nice things guarding KD.
He had a bad shooting night. His shot has always looked like that. He also had a sick and-1 attacking a close out. You can tell he's good at basketball.

I'm not betting on the health of the team, but if it's healthy, it's really good.
I understand that none of y'all watched the game, but there was good basketball happening. That was without any sort of defensive rim presence.

Defending this pile of **** is hilarious on its own, but combining it with telling everyone who disagrees they don't know anything about basketball is incredible work.

Caleb Martin is a back end bench player. The very definition of a role player. He got extremely hot against the Celtics 2 years ago in the playoffs but before that he was meddling with being out of the league.
Good player in the sense that he is playing NBA ball, but if you're using him as part of your reasoning for a title run, I'm going to have to disagree.

The roster is good on paper. But it offends everyone's sensibilities that the Mavs tried to play this off as a "win now" move and that AD is somehow more reliable than Luka.
It's almost a law that if you take this kind of gamble you're going to get the horns. AD was GOING to get hurt. And Kyrie was going to breakdown. Both are undeniably gifted basketball players. Kyrie is a hooper but he isn't the model of someone that does all he needs to do to maintain his body especially at his age. And AD needs no explanation.
It's ****in unfortunate for the Mavs fans, but they're probably an awesome video game team.
Now, if their "win now" and "more reliable" reasoning was complete horse ****, why did they make the trade? What's the reason?

I've attended the games and Christie was not a good defender on KD (he was decent on about everyone else though). I'm not gonna crush him because he's being asked to play an absurd amount of minutes in a role he should never have. Ideally, he and Naji are 6th/7th men and since his first handful of games after the trade, Christie has come down to earth. But to be clear - - there's nothing about this roster that is better now than it was 2 months ago. Mavs future title hopes are much lower and the path is much narrower.
Yes, these players are playing hard and basically going 5 out offense, but it's not working. They shot 40% from 3pt, banked SEVEN more 3s than the Suns and still lost. This is a woefully mediocre Suns team and the Mavs still lost despite the massive 3pt advantage (something that rarely happens in the NBA nowadays). This team loses by 20+ if they simply shoot average from 3pt because they have no other ways of scoring.

Kyrie is going to miss 3/4 of next season and then be asked to do AGAIN what led to his injury (play the most minutes at an elite level). Who is our starting PG until then? Dinwiddie? Exum? Brandon Williams? I don't care if AD is healthy (something that likely will not happen either), there's no contending with backcourt 'talent' that subpar.
So if Kyrie isn't back to 100% pre-injury Kyrie, the Mavs don't have any realistic chance of competing until the 2026-2027 season and that is scary.
To be clear, I'm not blaming anybody who didn't watch. I totally understand not watching at this point. I wouldn't have watched if it weren't against the Suns.

FWIW, y'all should watch Jeremiah Fears from OU. Gets to the rim at a high rate (~37%) and does a great job drawing fouls. He will probably be the best PG available when the Mavs draft, unless you want to roll the dice with Nolan Traore (better passer, scoring is a big mess)

I have zero faith in anything the FO/ownership does going forward after this season though. I'd have trusted them with my life after Lively...all of that goodwill is gone.

an overlooked part of this is the front office is absolutely going to attempt to use the injuries as an excuse for why the trade didnt work out.
Which when you breakdown all their reasoning, doesn't wash out and I hope the media doesn't let them do it.

Which to me means everyone acknowledged that the team would still be good on paper, and that AD is a great player.
But some might argue trading for a player like Davis with his injury history, and the reasoning they gave out to justify it, was pretty stupid in the first place. (this kind of just applies to all lanky bigs for the most part)
Which when you breakdown all their reasoning, doesn't wash out and I hope the media doesn't let them do it.
(they will because they all want to keep their access)

It's been clear since the start that no one GAF about Nico's spin. National media sure doesn't.
It's probably the reason AD got hurt long-term in the first place. They should have brought him back slowly from the injury. Instead they wanted him to play before Luka played in LA and AD, to his credit, gave max effort the entire game and it probably led to a more serious reaggravation.
Maybe if AD had a great offseason work ethic like Shaq, he wouldn't have gotten hurt.

The overwhelming majority of Mavs fans would have taken the unknown with Luka for a dozen more years over a near-term championship with purgatory on the backend. I think this was severely underestimated by ownership. I exclude Nico there because I don't think Nico cares. If we're correct there and the ownership group did completely miss on the average fan's sentiment (near term ship vs Luka long-term), it's just concrete evidence that this new group has not poured themselves into the city and fanbase as any savvy and quality ownership group would.
