You don't care who owns the Mavs, but you're not a Cowboys fan because of who owns them?
I may have worded it weird, but was trying to say I am a Cowboys fan no matter who the owner is. I meant it isn't that I am a Cowboys fan because of a loyalty to Jerry Jones.Goldie Wilson said:

I like you shack, but I'm kinda surprised you're not taking it as hard. You're clearly as invested as anyone on this thread and are pretty much the only poster to post virtually every game.shack009 said:
The fact that some of y'all are taking this as personal as someone banging your wife says more about y'all than it does about me. You aren't the first to use that analogy and won't be the last, I'm sure.
It's just really strange, because it isn't like that at all.
As far as the "entity" changing... I have never cared who owns the Mavs. I don't even care who is on the team really. I'm a Mavs fan because I lived in Dallas the entirety of my sports-conscious life until recently. My loyalty is to the team in Dallas. I'm not a Cowboys fan because Jerry Jones owns the team and I didn't become a Mavs fan because Cuban and Don ran the team.
Do they do things that I disagree with? Yes. But I get over it because it's a sports team. It isn't the same as forgiving your wife for banging somebody else. The Mavs didn't break a God-witnessed sacred covenant with me. They made a stupid trade.
I'll agree on the shooting, though I will say Luka was back to closer to his career average from 3 this year at barely over 35%. He had an outlier year from 3 last year. So Luka wasn't fixing that. We picked up Christie and Martin who are at around 38%. PJ is also up to 38% this year, but there are no more games against the Thunder. Good, not great shooters.jeffdjohnson said:The Mavs aren't going for anything and there is no window open. If we want to talk basketball then here is the truth - this team isn't good. The Mavs record without Luka tells us everything that we need to know.shack009 said:
None of us do. But that's been beaten like a drum ad nauseam for the past 3-4 days.
This thread can't become a place where people celebrate a loss in a year where we're still going for it.
It's like you said. The window is open still. It's shorter than it was. But it's still open.
So forgive me for being pissed off when people are celebrating losses when we need to win games more than ever over the next 3ish years.
It is now a clunky roster with too many resources committed to center (AD, Lively, Gafford). Ironically they keep giving minutes to someone named "Kyler Kelly" because their centers can't stay healthy. If they ever do become healthy and attempt to play a double big lineup then the spacing will be horrendous since no one is a stretch 5.
Speaking of shooting, across the board this isn't a great shooting team. Kyrie is the only shooter over 39% (Klay is close at 38.9%). Otherwise it is average to below average shooting across the board. Not to mention that Kyrie is now the only good shot creator on the whole roster. Dinwiddie is the next closest which tells everyone how bleak things are.
Defensively they might be good around the paint and on the boards, but will struggle on the perimeter. Their best point of attack defender is now probably a trade throw in.
To summarize: Team is over-committed to an injured group of centers who can't shoot, team doesn't have any shooters or playmakers aside from Kyrie, team is a below average from 3-point range, team will be a sieve defending on the perimeter. They are also old and it will only get worse from here. It is 50/50 if they even make the play-in, and that is assuming Kyrie stays healthy.
And yet you turn around and use a dumb political analogy and call everyone who's pissed about this a beta.shack009 said:

It is a metaphor. Guy. It is not a literalism. You got betrayed and exploited for an individuals personal gain/satisfaction and are acting like nothing happened and maybe it's actually a good thing. You didn't become a Mavs fan because those guys ran the team, but when they owned the team you KNEW they'd never do this.shack009 said:

I've said it before, but there is no point. Nothing I say about the trade will be a thought that every single one of y'all haven't already had. It was ****ing stupid. Honestly, you should take anger over the trade and wishing for losses as a positive sign that these folks are still fans and still love the team. I was that way once about the Cowboys, but I'm completely apathetic about them now. I'll watch if it's on, but it's the furthest thing from appointment TV at this point. If an incompetent GM can do that over the course of 25 years, it'll be interesting as a thought experiment to see if one can do it in 24 hours.

This was a once in a lifetime trade. The fact that you're still trying to police talk about it amazes me.shack009 said:How about we agree that the butthurt people seethe in silence and this thread is used for talking about basketball.PatAg said:

I understand that people are mad. I'm still really mad. It really felt like a piece of me was missing for a day or two. But we have to move on at some point.
Saying you're mad about the trade is just so redundant and stating the obvious. It just doesn't need to be said. Everything has already been said 1,000 times over. I promise nobody is bringing any new insight in to how dumb the trade was, at this point.
Any comment about anything Mavs-related in the future can be brought back to the trade. But there's nothing anybody can say or do that can change it. There's also nothing anybody can say about the trade that everybody else hasn't already thought/felt about it. It's brutal.double aught said:This was a once in a lifetime trade. I think it's probably best for all of us if we try to move on from it as soon as possible. Making every tiny little thing and every single lost game about the trade will only make it hurt more. We have to start living in reality and dealing with it like adults.

Shortest cease fire in history!
I actually think the Lakers got fleeced. Had to take on a fat slob while giving up a top 10 player and a promising young 3 and D guy. Mavs should have added picks and swaps to the deals.wangus12 said:Shack wanted the Lakers side of the dealMW03 said:shack009 said:How about we agree that the butthurt people seethe in silence and this thread is used for talking about basketball.PatAg said:
