This makes sense. He needs to play a ton to show teams he should get paid. Kidd has already shown times this season where he'll put Grimes on the bench for not playing how Kidd wants. Grimes is also really prone to some boneheaded plays. Kinda comes with the helter skelter style.

I care how things get done as much as what is done. Zero integrity ****wits shouldn't be rewarded. Mavs win a championship this year, next year they pay Kyrie, the year after that they pay AD and have absolutely zero future for the majority of 7 years. Totally devoid of interest while Nico gets rewarded with a coastal GM job. That doesn't hurt Nico all that much. If the Mavs fall out of the play in then they will have a top 10 pick in this year's draft who they will be adding to one of the best 5-6 rosters in the league.

I don't think we are legit contenders for Durant. It would mean sending Gafford, PJ, and Klay at minimum. Also Lively probably. It would gut the team way too much.
I don't think gutting something is a concept Nico is too concerned about. Nor is getting his team's average age closer to 40
I'm actually trying to decide what would make me angrier: gutting the team in a massive overpay to land Durant, or failing to get Durant because we get outbid by exactly one 1st round pick and one young player (i.e. the scraps Nico allegedly left on the table in the Luka negotiations, not to re-visit that multi-page argument again)

Even if this somehow pans out and the Mavs win a title (they won't), they could (and should) have gotten a much bigger haul for Luka. Nico is a dumb****.

I have a feeling you would hate the spurs gm more than you love the spurs if he traded wemby at midnight on a random Saturday night two years from now without checking with wemby and with only talking to one team and got garbage in return. It's easy to say you'd still root for the spurs when you know itlll never happen. But you would feel differently if it happened.
