This is the most ridiculous trade I've ever seen.

I get concerns with Luka's weight/conditioning and impact on his health, but this is a generational player and only 25. And outside of a few round 1 playoff games which you won anyway, he's always been there. He's still young enough to have that "i need to get disciplined" come to Jesus with himself. This season could have been that. And the last thing you do is trade him for a 30something who has had a career full of unavailability

Also, Kyrie is a looneybird but really settled in here, partly because he loves Luka. Now you risk losing him too

Came to offer my condolences as a Rockets fan.

Worst trade I've ever seen. The only thing that makes sense is the league wanted another star in LA for ratings and they went and got the youngest, best star and sent him there.

If that isn't the case then the GM for the Mavs should have been deported last night.

Well I woke up and I'm still fuming. I can't get over how they didn't reach out to other teams. Something is very fishy.

So far the new owners have drastically raised ticket prices and traded Luka for nothing. **** them. I'll likely cancel season tickets as well.

32 year old AD and 32 year old Kyrie arent winning a championship in 2025 or anytime in the future.

I'll try to salvage and sell off whatever remaining home tickets I have. Doubt anyone wants them. Gonna cancel today tor next season as well. Can't say I even want to watch another NBA game for a while frankly, there is no point. Following the Mavs when they were tanking was more fun than what is about to happen in the next 5 years.

If Nico and new ownership truly didn't believe in Luka then they could have done way better. Hell, Mikael Bridges got 5 first round picks. It's not just the stupidity of getting rid of the one guy who could elevate you to a championship. You didn't even set yourself up with a chance to find the next one in the draft. Now you've got nothing for the next 5 years. Just aging players, no championship upside, and no picks.

Exactly. I wouldn't even be that pissed if they got a huge haul in return. At least there would be hope.

Like someone earlier said, you could have waited til the offseason and traded him for the 1st pick and gotten more. Teams would snap accept that.

Didn't the NBA actually step in and cancel a trade years ago because it was so lopsided?

This is the most bizarre thing I've ever seen. Even if you did doubt Luka's long term health, there is plenty more out there to get. He should have brought one of the greatest hauls in league history at his age.

Thinking about Luka and Lebron...maybe Luka gets inspired by Lebron and his work ethic/training, but I doubt it. I could see that relationship going sour. I had my doubts about Luka elevating to the god-tier of athlete to get us the championship we want, but like y'all are saying how do we not get more for him?? Ugh

Even in the bizarre scenario where you decide that you want to get rid of Luka and this is all you could get in return, the appropriate thing to do from a PR standpoint would be to start leaking negative stories until Luka requests a trade, have it drag on for months, leak stories that the market isn't there for various reasons, and then settle on this type of garbage. A sudden surprise middle of the night trade of a 25-year old superstar (that seemingly wantst to stay) for literally nothing in return makes absolutely no sense.

Either there really is a conspiracy to move the team to Vegas or the new owners are just ******ed.

I would rather be a fan of an expansion team right now frankly.

I assume his weight has ballooned with the 6 weeks off and limited ability to condition. They had invested in Klay but are now on the brink of missing the playoffs. And the cheap whack jobs saw a chance to save $$$ long term and maybe salvage a season. Still doesn't make sense, but this is twisted logic I have to assume outside of grand conspiracy

But it it's $$$ at all, it is the very definition of penny wise and pound foolish

I honestly think this is a looney owner pissed that their star is a fatty and they forced something rash. This is a woman used to getting her way and not dealing with athletes

He didn't look 270 in the Mavs post from yesterday. Probably the wildest trade in NBA history. Not the worst (PG/SGA takes the cake), but definitely the wildest. Superstar entering his prime that just took them to the Finals - gone in the middle of night. Oof.

I think it has to be some combination of Luka being more hurt more than we are aware, and that Luka wasn't really blind-sided by this and there was a watershed "I'm not re-signing here" that accelerated things.

I can see Nico's hand being forced by ownership or Luka saying he doesn't plan on hanging around... but as others have said, to not actually shop the deal and get more than what Dallas got simply doesn't make sense unless there was a bigger production issue at play that Lakers were made aware of but other teams weren't yet privy to.

The mavs are basically shorting luka stock. Nico must truly believe that Luka's body is going to break down and he wont be where he was at last year ever again.

The return is the most baffling part of this trade. 1 first round pick for Luka ****ing Doncic. Unbelievably incompetent work by Nico

The odd part of "body breaking down" is that basically none of this stuff he's had has been that serious. Mostly muscle strains and bs. Yeah, he needs to get his **** in gear, but it's not like he's already ruined it in any way or suffered something that can be expected to plague him

I can understand a conceivable argument to trade Luka. I would never do it myself, but I can at least understand how a GM could convince themselves of it.

But I can't wrap my head around how bad the Mavs got fleeced in this trade. It's GM malpractice of the highest order.
