This notion that the international break would be a better time to hire a new manager makes very little sense to me.
There are at least 3 potential managers available right this second to manage United (assuming they are interested, you are interested, etc.). There's no reason why any one of them couldn't be hired the day after letting Carrick go if you do your due diligence and have been working back channels beforehand. Worst case scenario for a competently run club is that you hire the new guy on a Tuesday after letting Carrick go on a Monday. That gives them nearly a full week to prepare for the next game. Even if Chelsea, Roma, and Aston Villa all went horribly with the new guy (unlikely...or at least not as horribly as the season has gone so far), that's still time for him to work with the squad. The sooner he starts doing so, the better. And then your international break isn't starting with step 1, but rather step 5 which makes it more effective.
Honestly, the "waiting till the international break is better" mantra is just cover for the fact they don't know what to do. Wilcox wants Howe, Vivell wants Nagelsmann, no one wants to pay off Carrick and his staff. So they sit around looking at each other hoping it all just magically works itself out.
