There is nothing to say anymore . But It's a derelict of duty if FSG bring Slot back (which they are)

Three forwards, one midfielder and a fullback at minimum.

Transfer news already turning up. Fabrizio posted this morning that PSG and Liverpool are both firmly in discussions to sign Yan Diomande. Likely going to be another 100M+ price tag. Would also not surprise me at all if Liverpool drive a hard bargain and then swoop in and buy Barcola if Diomande goes PSG.

Weird for PSG though imo. Kvaratschelia is a top thee to five winger in the world and Doue is as talented a young prospect as Diomande imo and he's French. So are you going to spend 100+ million on a guy to split time with Doue, really?

As a Leipzig fan, he's one of my favorite players after just one year. One of my favorite moments of his this year was actually not his attacking prowess at all, but watching him pump his fists and celebrate tracking back to make a key tackle. He does it all and he's got a great attitude to go with his talent. Little known fact - he learned English and spent academy time in the US.

Last time I posted on here I was pretty confident we'd be able to give him an extension with release clause for next year, but that was when rumors were valuing him at about 80. It's high enough now I think he's gone. I hope y'all get him, but to the point on PSG, Diomande would easily be a play-every-game super sub at worst because he can play everywhere up front. Also PSG rotate heavily to rest guys for UCL (and they can afford to do so because their league is trash)… and Diomande is the type of guy who wouldn't feel slighted by that - he'd still work hard against Ligue 1 bottom feeders.

Very fair on PSG's use of players, especially up front. They do rotate a lot because Ligue 1 is average as the day is long.

If I had to guess he'll be heading to PSG and Liverpool would pick up Barcola for a better deal.

I don't care about him leaving. I care that he's leaving for free. This is ridiculous. You're letting money walk out the door.

Everyone leaves for free at Liverpool. And they are going to have an 11 man squad filled with U21 players at this rate

I'll go a step further and say I think this team NEEDS roster turnover, because whatever that was this year wasn't it at all on all fronts. But like you said we're staring at a 21 year old and a 19 year old being the main CBs behind VVD, which is insane, and needing another CB again.

Arne Slot officially gone effective immediately. Club issued an official statement. Looks like Iraola is going to replace him but that's not official yet

But like why wasn't this done like a few weeks ago when top candidates for the job were available?!

I think (and this is pure speculation on my part, I haven't seen much traction on this yet) we are now going to go after Iraola? The only other option that makes sense would be somebody who is tied to a World Cup team? Or the most unlikeliest of scenarios, a Klopp return (this is wishful thinking on my part and I fully understand this is like a 0.01% chance).

Yes, as I posted above he is the clear favorite to be the new manager by all reports.

Agree on what took so long?? It was clear he needed to go.

Lol I spent 2 mins on twitter and Reddit. And yes, Iraola seems the favorite, especially with his relationship to Hughes.

Hallelujah. I've been an Iraola fan for a good while now. I think behind Pep he's been pound for pound the best coach in the EPL for a few years. What he gets out of Bournemouth, considering the amount of talent they lost the last two years, is remarkable. He's also going to work these players like dogs.

Could I interest anyone is Kroupi Jr?

Yep. Think he's been the plan for a while now if/when Slot was released. It's why there were links to both with interest. Xabi was never the target and why there was reports of no contact between both parties.

I personally like Iarola much better and am pumped. Only time will tell for all these hires though
Tksymm7

Totally agree. Again, I've think he's been pound for pound one of the best managers in the EPL.

Reports, articles and other media is starting to come out that PSG away this year, Villa Away were some of the major major markers that this might not be working with Slot not even considering injuries, Jota and more. Slot I don't think understood the magnitude of this club with the way he spoke etc. and that showed in some games.

I think much of this comes down to training. Like Klopp, Iraola pushes his team hard in training. Klopp always had to deal with a few different injuries, but his players always fought like dogs for 90 minutes.

Slot came in and scaled everything back in the hopes of reducing injuries. That approach worked for exactly 2/3rds of a season. All of the hard work under Klopp carried us, while Arne's patient approach slowly displaced our heavy metal football. By the end of last year, you could see that we had lost some of our steam. Worst of all, it didn't really save us from injuries.

This year, far from the influence of Klopp, it was clear we just didn't have the legs to play high pressing, attacking football. In a large number of games, you could see the effort fall off of a cliff around the 65 minute mark. Like clockwork, we'd give up a goal and then Slot would throw on 5 attackers looking for a miracle.

I still really wanted Xabi Alonso and I still think he might one day coach for us; however, if Iraola is the guy, I'm here for it. His pedigree is impressive and his teams are always tough to play against. He also brings much more energy to the sidelines.

I also think Arne Slot will learn from this experience and become a better coach. He had never played or coached in a league outside the Netherlands, so he needed to learn what he never experienced. In the top 3 leagues (plus PSG) the speed, power and endurance is miles beyond the Eredivisie. You cannot slack on training, these guys are near olympic athletes from the bottom to the top of the table.

One additional thing, I'm actually quite happy with the way the ownership handled this, even if it cost us Xabi.

I'm not a fan of sacking managers mid season unless the team is bottom table and fighting for its life. Organizations that prioritize stability over quick fixes usually have better outcomes. Chelsea fired 2 managers mid season, and 3 in total, and still finished below us despite spending way more. Xabi is excited to go there, but it's clear he already forgot the pain of being fired mid season from an unstable organization. It'll be interesting to see if he lasts long enough on the blue Merry-Go-Round to implement his true vision

I think any manager sans Luis Enrique was and is going to be a huge gamble for what it's worth. We all love the idea of Xabi Alonso, but he would be a major departure in style and players required to really do what he wants to do. And let's not just brush over that it was a complete disaster at Real Madrid. I don't blame him a ton, but he also had a hand in their dysfunction.

Iraola is also a major risk in some regards. While he's had some incredible runs at Bournemouth, he's also had some real stretches of it not working at all. Most of that imo has been turnover or injury related, but still. He's also a manager who's going to drill the hell out of players, very few days off and so on. So does that work with playing European ball on top of all of the English commitments.

One thing is for certain though; this fan base is going to have to wrap their minds around being in transition and give some freaking grace. If we have a five game stretch of a loss, two draws and two wins in the first two or three months, we're going to have to be okay with that until they figure this out.

Konate officially gone. He posted on Instagram a few hours ago thanking Liverpool for his time and the winning he was a part of. Again I have no issue moving on from Ibou, but the issue moving on for free. I think we would've gotten $0.75 on the dollar for him, so to speak, but it just feels unsustainable to continue to let guys walk for free.99.

Agree as usual. This right here is big though:

There is a massive transition afoot here. A once in a generation type decade run is over. Moving on from Slot was absolutely critical and had to happen and was step 1. But as we have said many times, it was/is many more issues than just the mgr. That was an old/slow team with serious roster construction problems. This is a big multi year rebuild imo and the fans need to realize that now. On top of many players still needed, you have a new mgr and a short offseason to gel, etc thanks to the World Cup. Teams like Arsenal and MU are going to have a big leg ahead next year with their mgrs coming back (and Arsenal is reported ready to spend big on 5-6 more players).

Now onto squad building where I think we need a minimum of six incoming players, and that is not considering anyone else outgoing, which I find doubtful.

Premier League rules state that a squad is 25 men, of which 17 can be non-homegrown players. Under 21 players do not count against the 25-man squad limit. I am not including guys like Chiesa, Endo etc. that I believe to be 100% out the door, or young players we saw in only a Carabou Cup game or early FA Cup game.

Keepers: I am going to say we carry three again
Alisson
Mamardashvili (I expect a loan here)
Woodman
Pesci
Jaros (I think he could be a sleeper back-up option next year)

Defenders:
VVD
Gomez (I think it's time to finally sell, but can we afford to?)
Jacquet (will count as under 21)
Leoni (will count as under 21)
Bradley
Frimpong (I have no clue what to do with him)
Kerkez
Tsimikas (He's technically coming back)

Midfielders:
Szoboszlai
Gravenberch
Wirtz
Mac Allister (sell?)
Jones (feels sold)
Nyoni (lone stint gut feeling)
Elliott (who knows what is going to happen here)

Forwards: I don't see Ekitike coming back before February of next year at the earliest
Isak
Gakpo
Ngumoha (will count as under 21)

Of that group I am confident 15 will be back and be in the team next year barring complete chaos and insanity. So just for starting out, being the very minimum, I think we need to bring in six players who can play premier and champions league games. Three forwards AT MINIMUM; one midfielder, and two defenders. The reason I don't say two midfielders is because I just do not know what they are going to do with half of that group. At defender I think they need a do it all CB than can play fullback, and one other full time senior level CB.
