Glad I didn't wake up for that one. I watched via dvr till the penalty and I knew it was done there.

We started the match full of energy, but slowly lost our mojo. The players simply aren't fit enough to play a high tempo pressing game and too mentally weak to defend deep.

PSG is going to pound us....which should usher in the Xabi Alonso era.

Yep, it's hard to be fit when we train less than any team in the league. He has wiped out all of our competitive advantage and absolutely killed our press. We have the majority of the team completely gassed after 60 minutes. It's completely unacceptable what he has done to us physically.

Tons of thoughts on this, and I love me some John Gibbons. He's probably my favorite guy to listen to on TAW.

1) Finally glad some of the media is talking about just how rubbish the play on the pitch has been by the players this year at times. That was a disgusting effort and it deserved to be called out, and we have had a number of games this year resemble that FA Cup game, where the players just seemed like they didn't give af and looked like they wanted to be playing elsewhere. Liverpool of all places is not going to standup to applaud you for an effort Szoboszlai when you and the lads turn up with that pile of s*** you put out there, and you don't deserve it.

Far too often this year I believe Slot has born the brunt of the criticism, and not enough has been heaped on the 11 guys on the field for the effort that they have given on the field. PSV in the CL, City in the FA Cup, Nottingham Forest away in November, anytime we've played Palace and Wolves away a few weeks back. Those were all S*** performances that the players themselves need to step up and take responsibility for, because at the end of the day they are the ones on the field and the ones that completely fall to pieces when they come in contact with adversity happens.

Slot needs a ton of blame of criticism as well, as he's been God awful this year and I cannot wait till he's gone, but to me it's so clear that we don't have enough leadership and accountability in this team, and if you aren't going to get it from your manager you damn sure need to get it from your captain and leadership group and we are not.

2) Regarding Liverpool the city, players living there but not experiencing it, and demanding a certain way to play; I do not think I would go so far as to to say Liverpool have to play a specific/certain way, or that the players need to live there etc. What I would say is that Liverpool in particular, as do almost any real football fans in Europe, demand effort. But what I would disagree with is needing to have a Klopp style of effort and play at all times.

That style of play Klopp brought us was so far and away outside the norm in football that I think expecting that style of play moving forward isn't realistic. So we as fans needs to recalibrate ourselves to what a good effort is on any given game day. Instead of running like a lunatic till your lungs fall out, it's going to look different.

With that being said, the efforts that have been put in this season are so far off it that everyone and their mother deserves criticism, and I do think we need to go back to a style of play that not only works better in the EPL, but a style of play that resembles the city of Liverpool MORE than whatever crap is out there now. The press has to be worlds better. We needs more runners and more guys who are willing to get sucked into a game and throw their weight around. Defend their man so on and so forth. This is what Slot has killed the most imo.

Along with that, we need players who fit that mold as well. Enough with all of the Dutch players. Go out and get some proper English men again who are feisty; go out and get a few guys who haven't been spoon fed the entire way. This team needs grit, determination and a backbone again.

A 4-2-3-1? With Kerkez on the left wing?? What espn app shows. 90% possession for PSG 11 minutes in and already 1-0. LOL.

Edit...now showing 3-5-2. Can't watch so no clue.

Loopy, fluky goal. Although Mamardashvili should have been better positioned.

Well, here's to hoping we can get to 30% possession and at a least a shot attempt in the 2nd half. But that may be asking too much.

Please, just promise me we get rid of all the coaches and half the team an I'll be fine.

If Mamardashvili is supposed to be our answer if/when Alisson leaves, we are screwed. Was basically a cone for PSG's second, just offered nothing.

Kelleher is miles better than him. We sold Kelleher for 12.5M GBP (+ 5.5M GBP in add-ons) so let's call it 18M GBP. We bought Mamardashvili for 25M GBP (+ 4M GBP in add-ons) so let's call it 29M GBP. He is terrible with his feet and doesn't really make up for it with shot stopping ability. Not sure what we saw in him....

He was the one that had the huge run during a World Cup or Euros right? I assume it was a buy high scenario with that

Agree. Just baffling. Kelleher wanted to go and start somewhere and totally understandable with Alisson having a couple years left. I honestly would have kept Kelleher over Alisson with being 6 years younger and Alisson's injury issues. But that's tough to do, I get it. But we are seeing what's happening as the golden era winds down with Salah, VVD, Alisson's age/drop off comes to roost and just letting it play out and fade into the sunset.

Just like City, we don't even belong on the pitch with these guys. Miles and miles off. Such a sad state of affairs. Hopefully they can get the rebuild right.

I am not going to get on Mamardashvilli's case too much this year. He's an extremely talented goal keeper that is in a really weird and clearly broken team with Slot and Co.

As expected, Andrew Robertson announces his departure from Liverpool after 9 incredible seasons. Thank you Robbo!

Robbo is one of my favorite Liverpool players...ever. There have been more noteable players, those that put up bigger numbers and those that grabbed the headlines, but Andy has a been a huge part of Liverpool's soul for the last nine years. Just a constant ball of energy, positive attitude and ferocity...

Nothing epitomizes Andy's spirit more than the following highlight:

It was that day, January 14th 2018, that a Kop Legend was born.

I'll miss him in Red, but I'll cheer for him no matter where he goes.

I'm . much more sad about Robbo leaving than Mo. The only positive is that I hope he can go back to Glasgow and finally get to play for Celtic.

I think its best if we get knocked out of the champions league on Tuesday. With Chelsea getting smacked by City, we have a 4 point lead for 5th and we are only 3 back of 4th. That said, our remaining epl fixtures are going to be very tough....Everton (A), Palace (H), ManU (A), Chelsea (H), Villa (A) and Brentford (H). We don't have the squad to compete on more than 1 front. Its best we give up Champions league and try to hold on to our 5th place spot so that next year has CL football.

Don't think we have to worry about winning that game

Monday Morning Musings:

Saturday's showing was a long time coming relief of a performance. Rio was undoubtedly the MOTM. I don't think it eases the pressure on Slot, but with Chelsea's welcome loss to City (and Arsenal on track to bottle it), we control our own destiny in getting a CL spot.

Rio absolutely must start on Tuesday, for me. He is energetic, brave, and direct. And with Hakimi loving to push forward, that right side is the vulnerability we need to exploit. That is the only way I see us coming back into the tie. We shouldn't put the weight of our European hopes on the shoulders of a 17 year old. So I would put as much experience around him as possible, including giving Robbo a second straight start. Not expecting much from the Reds, but getting Rio as many minutes as possible on a big European stage has to be one of the things we come away with.

Rio and Mo on the bench. Staring Hugo and Isak up top. Should be interesting, but I don't really have high hopes.

Arne is very cautious about over extending Rio, I think he will largely save him for EPL matches.

Poor Hugo. He will probably miss the world cup now.

Tough outcome for a guy that played so well this year.

He'll easily miss all of next year too. That's devastating.
AG@RICE
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Ya...given that Salah is leaving we are the same place we were last summer with our attacking options.

We probably need to bring in 4 new attackers in the next transfer window.

At this point give me a new starting 11 lol. I am so beat down by this season.
