In our last game it was clear that Rio is our only real attacking threat....so I'm assuming we will see Gakpo come on for Isak here is a second

Not that it would have mattered, but Mamardashvili's inability to make a pass >15 yards is a real problem

He's got work to do in distributing the ball. I like him as a shot stopper and gatherer, but not as much getting it out.

So past 2 seasons we finish higher than PSG in league phase table then proceed to score one goal in almost 400 minutes against them.

Etitike suffered torn achilles versus PSG.

Yup. Now out 9-12 months, will miss the world cup, and he's entering his prime. What a potentially career altering injury.

On top of that we'll need ANOTHER player up front for next year. Yet another reason why Liverpool are going to have to empty the coffers this summer.

Also another reason why that isak transfer was probably one of the dumbest decisions I've seen by lfc. LFC was run on a tight budget for years and always prioritized moderate spending and future potential. Edwards/Hughes ruined it by chasing Isak, he is neither cheap nor does he have room to grow. He is what he is....5 touches in 45 minutes.

We could have bought 3 promising attackers for one Isak. Now we have to go into the bargain bin. I look forward to us digging up another xenden or paulsen in a few months

Finally got around to watching the Bayern - Madrid game from Wednesday, and we are so far off it from a talent perspective from these teams. PSG too because we watched it.

We're laughably short in attack, and a legit body short in midfield and defense. Cannot be stated enough how big this summer is.

ETA: I am making this my official statement and request for the summer transfer window (hint EMBRACE YOUTH):

1) Yan Diomande - get it done; don't care what it costs. He's young, his work rate is ridiculous and he can do a bit of everything on the right side

2) Young, big, athletic midfielder - not sure it matters who at this point, and it may be best to let Wharton and Elliot go for the prices they are going to demand; perhaps take a look at Baleba and Joao Gomes (not necessarily young), or dare I say Morgan Rogers? I think we need attacking help so desperately that it might be worth it to buy a bit on the younger/cheaper side so you can allocate money up front.

3) Going to be unpopular but finally go get Anthony Gordon - he's not special, but he's a very good player, hard worker, can play anywhere up front and would probably die to be in a Liverpool shirt. Very Luis Diaz esc.

4) Backup LB

5) Project attacker - Mateus Mane or thereabouts

This is the absolute minium imo and I am not even considering players that might get sold like Mac A, Gakpo, and Jones.

Checking in as a Leipzig fan… supposedly the club wants to keep Diomande for one more year. It's a move they often do - extend a player and give a raise to keep him happy, but give a release clause for the next summer and everyone knows it's gonna happen. And now that the club's highest and most utterly worthless wage earner (Timo Werner) is finally gone, they're in a good position to be able to turn down deals they don't want to do. Not saying it can't happen this year, but I'd be surprised.

That being said - Diomande is the best prospect I've seen us have and worth splurging for. His maturity is incredible - you'd think he's 29, not 19. He's the best kind of player to root for - humble, hardworking, and ruthlessly creative with the ball at his feet.

And United take the lead before half. A United win is probably the best result for us.

Chelsea worse than us fortunately. Hopefully that will be enough to keep us in top 5, but we have a tough finish.

Also, all the reports and tea leaves point to Slot staying no matter what. That's from Ornstein too. I just can't …

Look, the way I see it is FSG/front office view the situation from the angle that we've been absolutely devastated by injuries and this season the roster construction was really, really bad.

I'd be lying to you if I said I also didn't want Slot gone, especially now that Xavi is out there. But I'd also be selling myself short in not acknowledging the fact that I also think the biggest issue(s) is what I mentioned above.

There's also serious rumors floating around that FSG/front office knew this would be a rebuild and would be investing across TWO summers as their sort of vision. Now, the problem with that is that they didn't account for just how bad it could potentially get.

We'll see what happens.

I get where they can be coming from. And I have said many times that the issues aren't organizational wide. His first 2 years could be PL championship and a top 5 finish with injuries, etc. There are counter arguments to that as well (won with Klopp's team then faded. Etc). In my opinion, it's his style of play, tactics, and how this team has just seemed to quit. It's lost its identity, passion, effort and energy and is just flat boring. I get it, a lot has to do with the talent and roster. But it shouldn't be this awful and something is just way off. I think he has lost Anfield and the fan base because of this and it's near impossible to get that back when it happens.

I can be completely wrong and can see the total rebuild that has been coming for awhile now. But it's just my opinion he's not it.

Like you said, we will see. Going to be an interesting summer because it looks a ton of players are gonna leave.

The tactics I agree with wholeheartedly, I just don't know if it's a chicken or the egg type of thing. Are we being coached to be safe, boring, slow, and methodical because that's what Slot wants to do? Or are we slow, boring, methodical, and safe because we don't have any other choice because we don't have the players to do anything else effectively? I truly do not know the answer to that.

The mentality aspect too. Is slot the reason we are so poor mentally? Or is it because we do not have the proper players anymore? Again I have no clue.

I'll say this as well; I don't think this season is nearly as bad as it has been if you simply add two wingers to this group that can run and do things physically that you don't you expect wingers to do. We're not winning the league, but it's not this bad imo.

If we ever, ever needed a win down the road, today is the day. Can go 7 up on Chelsea and put one hand on a CL spot for next season.

What a sloppy mess. Turnover machine and just completely run through like butte. An no Rio …not that it matters at the moment because we can't get or keep the ball.
Tksymm7

I don't have a problem with no Rio in this game to start, but he's also coming on at half for me. I want no part of Jones at RB and Gakpo at LW for 60 minutes. Id assume Gakpo will move to striker.

The lack of physical ball control from our players though is shocking at times.

I apologize. I know I dropped the ball hahah.

Here's my recap of the game:

1) Overall that game was kinda gross from a "what each team was trying to do" perspective. Everton play perhaps the most 2026 EPL ball in the league; they launch long ball after long ball, and bring everyone up for a free kick within 10 yards of midfield. From a Liverpool perspective, we started playing norma football but by the end of the game we were exhausted and whatever long ball was sent forward we sent right back. Not the most eye catching spectacle but really fun game nonetheless.

2) For the first time in months I thought we actually came together as a team and BATTLED! The lads got stuck-in, fought like crazy, ran hard up and down and were not going to get pushed around. I loved the fight. That's what the Mersey Side Darby does and it was refreshing to see.

3) Not enough from Isak and Wirtz even though they both put in hard working shifts (hat tip to them for it though). Part of their struggles in a Liverpool kit are team oriented imo. We've spent the better part of 15 years playing attack through wingers, and now we have world class level strikers and a No. 10. I just don't think we know quite how to get Isak and Wirtz involved in the dangerous areas. Wirtz picks the ball up too deep at times, and Isak doesn't sink back and get involved enough. But also they need to be better as well.

4) Salah and VVD; two legends of the club putting the team on their back today in some regards. Bravo gentlemen.

5) INJURIES are insane. Mamardashvilli got stretchered off for the Everton goal. I have never seen in a season so many players need to be stretchered off and it's absolutely devastating.

All in all thought a very solid game. Keep fighting Reds. Keep grinding.
