This is a great point.
Quality play at this position has been a known issue. I have been a big fan of Jesus but his injury issues are also a known problem.
It seems a pittance to have spent 20MM more for a young and proven goal scorer. Huge mistake.
I can't help but wonder where this leaves the squad longer term. The Newcastle result is alarming for a number of reasons.

The amount of injuries right now are insane. Top 4 might be in jeopardy if this continues and they don't get anybody in.
But outside of injuries, I'm not sure how these guys are professional level players with this level of finishing. I don't know what voodoo or hex has occurred, but the amount and types of chances they are missing are unexplainable.
Pack the squad up and take them back to Dubai stay there. Stay there for 2 weeks. Forfeit whatever matches you have to.

For me, Arteta gets a mulligan for this season.
I've not been his biggest proponent, but haven't been especially sour on him at the helm. Sure, I think he is too fixed in tactics and a lack of player rotation over the course of a season, yet there has been improvement since he took over.
While there is is still an outside chance at the EPL title this year, and Arsenal are still very much in the hunt at this point for CL, my expectations are not high.
Next season, however, I think is do or die. He must lead the club to either the EPL or CL title.

Given our current injuries & form of star players, doing nothing this window is risking top 4. If you can only add 1 player, I really think it needs to be a clinical ST. If you can afford a 2nd, it needs to be a playmaking W that can ideally play both sides.
As it stands, we've got 4 attacking players not injured. Trossard, Gabi M., Kai and Sterling. They have to get someone. It's gonna end up being a massive overpay, but you have to bring someone proven in
Speculation floating around RE Jesus is ACL on his "good" knee.
