So with the Calafiori links there is a theory going around that we are done with the OZ style inverted FB and that we plan to go with athletic CBs (like White, Gvardiol, etc....) at FB next season. The idea is that you have a depth chart of.....

LB/LCB - Calafiori, Kiwior
LCB - Gabi
RCB - Saliba
RB/RCB - White, Tomi

And then utilize Timber as a FB supersub and start training him as a DM.

Not sure if I see Timber being a super sub. I'd expect him to largely start.

But either why, sure does seem OZ's time at left back has to be coming to a close. And good. He can be much more useful to us as a CM.

Which young impact winger does Hagn have in mind? Keep in mind Trossard tossed in 17 goals last season.

We would only have 4 reliable starting quality forwards left, Havertz, Jesus, Martinelli and Saka. Jesus and Martinelli just had disappointing seasons.

While I actually believe Calafiori has the skills to play left wing in a pinch, that's just that, in a pinch.

I like Trossard but I think Hagn is right. Go look at Trossard's prior season stats. Last time he scored double digits was in the Belgian league. He spent 4 yrs at Brighton. First 3 as the nailed down starter and not once scored 10+. While I appreciate his contribution, this past season looks like the exception. We have been rumored for 2 yrs to get a legit rotational option that could play on the right and if we sign someone the quality of those linked in the past Trossard will 100% be pushed down the pecking order. I wouldn't necessarily be looking to move him because he is strong depth but if someone comes in with a solid offer I would 100% let him go.

Edit..... Calafiori is a LB/CB. He isn't gonna be playing on the wing anytime soon.

After the season Martinelli had, I am not in a hurry to sell our 3rd highest goal scorer. Now if we drop 75 million on a bang-on, start every week, 15 goal a season LW in the next month; my mind could be changed.

If we hang on to Trossard, we'll never be able to sell him higher than this year. I have faith in Martinelli figuring it out and getting back on form.

Is it really fair to judge a 23yo so quickly on an off season? Really think Martinelli's issues were related to change at L8 (Havertz was a poor fit for him), inconsistency at 9 (Eddie does nothing to help the wings) and minor nagging injuries (read the foot laceration against Sheffield was much worse than was let on).

Havertz moving to 9 helps 2 of those issues as Marti tends to play better with Rice at L8. Dont feel like we need a starter at LW but rather a player capable of playing either wing and good enough to push Marti to play at his best. If we get that player then Trossard's minutes will absolutely drop.

I'm definitely not binning Martinelli after 1 mediocre season - just that he is now a bit of an unknown and dumping Trossard would be a big gamble at this point. Also keep in mind that Champion's League format changes next year so we will have even more games to play and even more tired legs given Euros and Copa this summer.

Until an actual name emerges to replace him, I don't think we can seriously consider selling Trossard. Just don't see that as a realistic thing.

I appreciate wanting the club to get maximum value in sales but we can't "afford" being caught short handed. We can afford to not get absolute maximum value from Trossard

I'm with you…of all the things we learned last year is that we need quality depth. We can't sell in one of the spots we actually have it

Summary
- creates a custom calculation that adjust statistical variables (including some biased adjustments) and comes up with a list of players that he feel would fit our needs
- removes the top 10 non-Arsenal options (Saka is #1 & Marti #7) because of cost, availability, etc..... and then provides the reader with a list of 45 options, their scores, detailed explanation for the top 7 and minor details for the rest.

We only got 30m for Balogun who'd crushed that league the year before. I'd be shocked if they offered more than 30
