How long do you want to ignore this user?
So 6 months into my Asics Nimbus running shoes (including a 3 month hiatus from running due to plica injury) and they are already crazy irritating. They were GREAT at first and now when I stand in them, it feels like my feet are rolling to the outside. It's weird, I can see it even looking in the mirror. I think I have kind of a high arch and I was pretty suspicious that I might be a supinator (or under-pronator), but I think that this might confirm my suspicions.

I made a day trip down to Houston with my fiance today and we made it by Luke's locker on W. Gray. The guy I talked to there said that what I was experiencing was not uncommon for asics shoes (?). Has anyone ever heard of this?

Anyway, he fitted me in a pair of the Mizuno Wave Creation 9's and they feel pretty good. The arch support actually hugs my foot (which never happens without an insole), and it feels like my feet are flat on the ground (which is definitely a good thing). Does anyone run in Mizunos? The guy seemed pretty confident that the Mizunos would last longer and not give me the same problem as the asics...

I hope he's right!

never heard that about asics.

the mizunos probably hug your foot b/c they run more narrow that asics.

Aggie...Crossfit seems to recommend these two shoes:

Vibram Five Fingers

Nike Frees

What are your thoughts on those shoes?
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
i don't do cross fit, so i don't know particulars of it. what do you plan on doing in them?

if you plan on doing much running in either, you better be REALLY neutral and a light runner. i wouldn't really recommend either for an inexperienced runner. I don't have any personal experience with the five fingers, but its less of a shoe than the free and the free only works for a pretty select group of people.

if you are just going to walk around in them, feel free, but i'd be careful with running in either unless you know what you are doing.

I ended up trying on the Nike Free 5.0 and loved them...reminded me of my old soccer shoes...From soccer and track I am a pretty light runner so that is what really drew me to those shoes.

Question though...from talking to the people at footlocker...they weren't shipping any more nike Frees...are they being discontinued?
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
no.

and please don't ever go to foot locker again.

I only went to Foot Locker when Sports Authority and Academy didnt have anything close to what I was looking for. I actually ended up finding them at The Finish Line.

I dont know of any real running shoe specific places in Houston?
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
i don't live there, but Luke's Locker has several locations. Not sure about other stores, however, I know there are others.

Picked up some Mizuno Waveriders yesterday at RunTex. I had been running 15-20 miles/week in just whatever I liked at Academy with no problems, but I want to start ramping that up soon. I figure it would be good to make sure I'm not wearing something that will mess me up in long distances. They felt great running Town Lake today!

Aggie00, what's a similar shoe to the Brooks Adreneline GTS? I love the fit of the Brooks, but I want to find a grey shoe instead of white. I know, I know, don't buy a shoe for looks, but I don't run. I'm wearing them mostly for walking.
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
for walking stability doesn't really matter that much (unless you are like race walking or something). just find a stability shoe that is comfortable. you aren't putting the same kind of pressure on your joints.

however, the Trance has the same posting as the adrenaline. Its not grey, but its not white either.

its also about $45 more expensive than the adrenalin.

I bought the Nike Free Trainer 7.0 this weekend...not for running, but I like the flat sole for squats and other weight room activities. My flat feet probably deserved better, but I love the way these feel.
AggieOO

i still slip on my frees to just walk around in, but i can't run in them. they are comfortable as hell. although they will make your feet sore if you aren't use to them.

AggieOO - I have a fairly flat foot, it appears I'm between a Stablity & Motion. Also, my foot is pretty narrow. I tried on the Nike Moto yesterday and it felt awesome (especially compared to my GelNimbus 9's) but the Moto is a Neutral shoe. It probably wouldn't work for me.

Would you recommend a Mizuno, Brooks (Adreline), or the Nike Triax? They seem to be the proper shoe for me.

Thanks.
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
mizuno is going to be the narrowest fit, but the triax will fit closest to the moto.

the adrenalin will be the widest of the three, but will have the most stability.

Thanks. After trying on the 2130, Adreneline, Pegasus, and Moto5, I went with the Moto5. It has the best fit for support, cushion and weight. I almost went with the Brooks.
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
wait - if you need stability, why the moto? and why were you trying the pegasus? those are neutral shoes.

txtechaggie2004 - I run in Mizuno Wave Riders and love them, but the exterior hasn't held up as well as I think they should.

Aggie 00 - can you recommend a neutral Nike? I got the hook-up on all Nike apparel, and need some help on the shoes. I don't see anywhere on the Nike website where shoes are labeled neutral, etc. I have to use the website to find the #s of things that I want to order. I prefer shoes with more cushion.

me too.

Stick to the Bowerman Series. Anything outside of that is crap, imo.

Regular trainers: Pegasus, Max Moto, Vomero

Lightweights: Skylon, Hayward

I'm in the Vomeros right now and they are pretty good. Had to get use to the extreme cushioning though. Pegasus is a decent all-around trainer. I have the Motos and don't really like them.
DB Coach
How long do you want to ignore this user?
LOL. I know you got the hookup...I don't have it quite as good as you do!

By the way, what do you think about the Equalon? Is there any difference between the Vomero and the Vomero 2 or 3?

I didn't see the Hayward on the website.

Thanks for the info!
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
the equalon is a stability shoe.

i think the vomero 3 is better than the 2. not sure why, but i definitely like the newer one over the older one.

the hayward is fairly new. its similar to the skylon. I like the oregon colors personally:

What about the Asics Kinsei's? Overpriced or worth it?

Looking at buying some new shoes this summer for my marathon but will have to save up substantially for these.
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
the note on our board for the kinsei:

"No one needs these shoes. No one."

does that answer your question?

AggieOO - Kinda what I was thinking but I tried the online shoe dog fitting by RoadRunner and it recommended the Pegasus. Obviously, it didn't work for me. You stated, on the first page, the Moto is an "in-between" shoe, so I tried the Moto and it just felt more solid and comfy than any other shoe and it seemed to work good this morning on a 4 miler.

AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
its an "in-between" shoe as far as cushioning goes. that has NOTHING to do with stability/support. the moto is a neutral shoe.

I ran for the first time in my Free 7.0 Trainers tonight. By "run" i only mean 1/2 mile to the gym and another 1/2 mile back. Surprisingly comfy, and really I'll never run more than 1-2 miles at a time.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Ive had the Nike Frees 5.0 for like 2 weeks now and they are just night and day from regular shoes. I ran a bit in my others today b/c I thought my apartment had a rowing machine (it didnt) and it was just overall so much more difficult for some reason.

Aggie00, you mentioned that I should look for a stability shoe for walking. Can you give me some suggestions in Adidas, Asics and New Balance brands? Since I live in BCS, I don't have a running store to get suggestions and I'm only planning on using this pair for walking. I'll be getting another pair for running eventually, but I need to get in better shape before I attempt any running. For now, I'm just going to pick up a pair at Academy. Many thanks!

from the first page

Stability Shoes

I'll try and list these from lighter stability (smaller medial post) to heavier stability (bigger medial post)

New Balance 767 ST
Asics 2120
Mizuno Nirvana
Saucony Trigon Guide (firm)
Brooks Axiom
Nike Air Structure Triax
Saucony Hurricane (cushion)
Adidas Supernova Control
Asics Kayano (cushion)
New Balance 1222
New Balance 857
Brooks Adrenaline (firm)
Brooks Trance (cushion)

AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
and there you go

also the Nike Equalon and Asics 3000. probably a few more i could add, but its basically just a laundry list at this point.
'03ag
How long do you want to ignore this user?
i note on Sauconys.

AggieOO is not kidding when he says they "hug" your heel. I bought a pair of Trigons on clearance because i needed a cheap pair to kick around in. they're very comfortable but i would never run in them. i wear a size 13, and have a hard time believing there's a person out with size 13 feet AND a heel narrow enough to run in these. no inside support.

RE: Glycerin 6

>>they narrowed the toe box and my big toe rubs on the side of the shoe. i'll get blisters if i tried to do any sort of distance in them. i even tried to size up an extra .5 size<<

I did have to go up a half size, but I've been wearing mine now for about 3 weeks and have had no problems. In fact, they seem wider to me than the 4s, but they are a half size bigger.
