first thing I would do is go try the nimbus for yourself instead of listening to reviews. a reputable running store will allow you to return the nimbus if you go for a run and they feel like crap.

as far as the weight of the shoes, there is very little difference in weight of most regular trainers.

Aggie..my g/f went and tried on two shoes the:

Nike zoom Haywards
Zoom Hotshots

and she liked both...Any info on them? Their primary use will be for built up distance running?
AggieOO

i don't know anything about the hotshots. the haywards are comfortable, but I've yet to actually do anything than slip my foot into them. I have a pair on the way, but they haven't come yet. I won't be running in them, however. Overall, they weren't really viewed as a "real" running shoe until recently when [i'm completely drawing a blank] won the marathon wearing them.

i guess i'm not a whole lot of help, but generally, i'd stick with the bowerman series as far as nike goes.

What do you mean by Bowerman? When you search it on Nike.com it brings up 18 shoes that don't have the name Bowerman in them.
AggieOO

the bowerman series is comprised of the shoes that I, and most others, would consider "real" running shoes. Named after Bill Bowerman. I think the Hayward is part of it. You won't find Shox and crap like that in it.

vomero
triax
skylon
pegasus
equalon
elite
etc...

AggieOO,

Of the shoes you mentioned, which fall in the various categories (e.g., neutral shoe, stability shoe, motion control shoe, etc.). I am assuming that if someone would like to purchase Nikes, you would refer them to the Bowerman series. I am trying to identify what the best Nike shoes are in each category.

Thanks.

there are probably a few others, but these are the main ones

Neutral:

Skylon
Pegasus
Vomero

Stability:

How well do you know your Saucony's? They no longer make my favorite style- Trigon Ride 5. This is a neutral cushion shoe. It looks like the Progrid 5 is pretty musch the same shoe. Any thoughts?
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
they still make it. they just dropped the "Trigon" from the name. they also dropped the "Trigon" from the guide as well.

Since I am signed up for the marathon, I am going to need to invest in a few pairs of shoes.

I am wearin the nike frees 5.0 and I love them. Problem is they are freakin hard to find these days so I want to have a few back up shoes. I like the light weight and flexibility of those shoes. Any suggestions on where to go with my next couple pairs.
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
there is nothing on the market that is really similar to the frees. sorry.

if you are one of the few who can actually run in the frees (my buddy just finished the same 50 miler i did and he ran in the frees), then you might need to stick with them.

Aggie... I dont really have any intention of running in them. I had some slight knee discomfort on my 10+ mile runs so I am going to use them for the shorter runs.

Question though.

I bought the 2130s and liked them a lot, but my heal was slipping so I just returned them. After trying on a bunch of shoes, I settled for the ATX 11, though I am going to try on the Pegasus today (Store I was at was out of them in my size).

What "should" be a better fit for me?
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
i didn't go back and scan through the thread to see if you posted this info earlier, but do you overpronate? i can't make any suggestion without knowing that.

the free is made for light, efficient, neutral runners. the 2130 is a moderate stability shoe.
agmatt06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Aggie...havent had a formal gait test, but would be reasonably certain of not overpronating. Maybe mildy at most, but overall I would have a pretty normal style.
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
then you don't want a stability shoe.

so at just over 300 miles on my Brooks gts 7's I went in to get fitted for the gts 8's. I figured i might work the new ones in once a week or so until my 7's wore out. but after buying the 8's, they are quite a bit cushier than my 7's. I'm wondering if I've already worn them out. they don't hurt or anything when I run, but i can tell a big difference between the two.

since february I've dropped from 215 to 200 lbs, but that still makes me kind of heavy for a runner. think i might be on the low end of that 300-500 mile spread?
agmatt06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
after wearing both the Pegasus and the Vomeros I went with the Vomeros as they felt like I got a bit better bounce.

03ag - I have been doing a lot of reading on these and I believe that is a common complaint on the Brooks GTS 8 that they are quite a bit different then the 7s. If you like the 7s I think I would consider searching online for them. I know I found them at Sports Authority yesterday and I am sure they are online everywhere as well.
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
agmatt - i just did the 50 miler in the vomeros, so they are definitely road-tested. I like them. I'm on my 3rd pair in 4 months.

Great to hear...I had a vomero on one foot and the Pegasus on the other and while the squish was a bit different feeling than I am used to...it definately was a comfortable fit.

Pegasus was definately a close second though.

I had bought Asics Fortitude 2 last April and finally decided it was time to get some new shoes. Today, I went and got the Fortitudes 3. I also tried on some Brooks that I liked a lot but the guy at Luke's made a good point...if I never had problems with the Fortitudes, why change? They were also like $10 cheaper so win-win.

anyone know of any decent deals on a pair of vomeros? i don't feel like paying full retail.
AggieOO

what size?

12. i've been running in pegasus' the past four years and i've read some great things about vomeros and have wanted to try them out.

Aggie...have you seen anybody have any issues with the Nike Dri-Fit socks? I bought the 3 pack when i couldnt find my normal underarmour socks and when I wore them yesterday, I was feeling some pain on the outside area of my arch. Still have mild pain today in that area.
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Rofl - can't promise anything, but i might be able to help you out. you are the same size as me and i have more vomeros coming in soon. i might actually switch to the Lunar Trainers (they are amazing). so, i might have a pair up for grabs...although i might hang on to them for backup since i destroyed my other pair in the 50 miler.

agmatt - never heard anything about that. i wear them all the time (have some on now) and have never had any issues.
agmatt06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Aggie...can you do a review/comparison of the lunar trainers vs the vomeros?
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
i'll probably be picking up a pair of the lunars this weekend. let me get some miles in them to get a fair review. I've gone through multiple pairs of vomeros, so i have a good idea of that shoe. I'm basing my opinion of the lunars from trying them on a few times and from five or six people i know currently running in them. I've yet to hear anything negative about them outside of the fact that the Lunar Racer rubs some people's achilles.

that would be awesome. i'll keep my eyes peeled for a pair online for the time being. damn, those lunars are LIGHT!
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
the trainers light. the racers are ridiculously light.
agmatt06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
But are the trainers designed for marathoners? What is Nike claiming the life expectancy of the shoe to be?
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
the racers are built to race the marathon in (nike athletes will be in them in the olympics). both shoes have the same mid-sole and sole. the difference in weight is the upper. both are built for distance runners.

there is no air in the shoes. they use the new lunar foam.

the mileage is supposed to be the same as a regular trainer. obviously the trainer will be more durable than racer.

Any suggestions for somebody who has ITBS?

I'm doing the stretches and trying to strengthen my muscles, but I wonder if my show choice has any affect?

AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
wrong shoes can cause ITBS. but no guarantee that the shoes are the culprit.
