Any feedback yet on Under Armour's offerings in shoes? I ask because of the color schemes (and my activities) I may need to get a pair or two -- if they are better than the alternative.

OO-

Reading this thread prompted me to do a little digging for info on the Nike LunarGlide+.

Touted as being the best of both worlds...stability and cushioning.

The proof will be in the pudding, I suppose, but could this shoe obviate the need for foot-striking analysis in all but the few who are under-pronators or severe over-pronators?

That is to say, do you think this shoe will be the "one stop shopping" running shoe for the masses?

Was gonna go to Run-Tex in a couple of weeks for a new pair of shoes (and analysis), but I'm really thinking about holding off till Aug 1st to get the LunarGlide+.

Thoughts?

Aggie00. What's your takeon the new Lunarglides as a replacement for the lunar trainers? Are these going to give the same feel?

jeez, what a retarded thread. just buy what you like. why make things difficult on yourself?

and it's funny how we put so much effort into buying a 75 dollar pair of jogging shoes and then we dont even think twice about buying a stock. we buy it cause its a cinch to go up.

you can always sell a stock back. most of the time you are stuck w/ a pair of shoes and most ppl (including myself) don't want to just throw away $90 or more.

As far as this thread is concerned, anyone try out the Brooks Launch yet? I just bought a pair this weekend and so far its a different experience, and I'm looking forward to these shoes.

have fun with your injuries!

god forbid people try and do some research before spending 90-150 on a pair of shoes.

Sorry, I missed the questions regarding the LunarGlides.

I currently run in the Lunar Trainers and race in the LunaRacers. The Glides feel NOTHING like them. They are much firmer. I've done a couple runs in them and I really don't like them. They are ok, but I doubt I'll run in them.

as for the dynamic support...I've not seen them on a gait analysis, but I'm still skeptical. We've been trialing them at our runs for the past few weeks and I honestly haven't gotten much positive feedback on them. there are definitely people that like them though.

I wish mine only cost $75! I'm almost into my first hundred miles in my first really good shoes and man oh man can I tell the difference! I apologize to my feet, knees, hips and other affected body parts for running and working out for so many years in crappy shoes. I ended up with the Mizuno Nirvana and I like them a lot.

I generally run in the LT as well, but with them being discontinued, I am trying to decide what shoe to move on to. Any suggestions for a shoe that give a similar response to the LT?
AggieOO

i'm trying to find that myself. apparently the Run Avant+ is the Glide without any posting. I haven't tried them yet, but I probably will soon. They are $78 retail, so they are $22 cheaper than the Glide. I can get a decent discount on them, so I might throw $45 away and see if they are worth a crap.

If you don't mind black, Eastbay has Lunarlite Trainers. See link below.

Based on what you guys say I am thinking about picking up a pair. I am wearing a size 10 Asics Gel Stratus right now. Should I order a 10 in the Lunars or do they run different?

Great thread! This has helped alot! Although still a little confused.

Foot type is pretty flat... I did the arch test and there was very little indention, if any, where my arch is supposed to be. Here recently it seems that the bottom and arch areas of my feet have fealt "worn out" after a long day of having my shoes on or after a run. I think it is mainly because my shoes are worn out... will get into that below. I have also always noticed that my feet tend to bend inwards when I walk or stand... and my work boots always wear to the inside of my foot(arch side).

My last shoe I bought was a Mizuno Inspire. This was like 2.5 years ago and just accidentally bought them. It has worked well for me I guess... but I have never really thought about it much. All I know is that they are pretty worn out... should have gotten new shoes A LONG time ago.

I tried on Asics 4000(I think that is what it was... does this shoe exist?), Brooks Adrenaline, and again the Mizuno Wave Inpsire 5. It was pretty crowed and hectic in the Runtex I was at so I couldn't really concentrate, but all of them fealt pretty similar, but of course all I did was walk around.

I am leaning back to the Mizuno Inspire again... mainly because I didn't have any complaints from the first go around and plus it seems to fit with the type of shoe I need... it being a stability shoe( I think?).

Aggie00 - I was curious of your opinion of this shoe as it was not on the initial list on the first page. Also, what about the other shoes listed? Are there any others I should try out?

TIA!!

Update: I was in Dallas today so I went by Luke's Locker. After trying all of the shoes mentioned above plus a few more I went with the Asics 2140.

I did try on the Nike Lunar Glider... and it was interesting. Really lite and actually felt pretty good. I almost wanted to try it but couldn't pull the trigger as it would have been to large a paradigm shift for me... Might give in next time though.

the 2100 series is a good shoe, although they did have some issues with the 2120s. Sorry I missed your original post.

I am so happy to find this thread. I came onto this board with the intention of starting a "what kind of shoe do I need" thread. I'm up to my eyeballs in research on running shoes.

I recently started running again. I'm averaging about 25 miles/week right now and hope to increase it to meet my goal of 1000 miles in a year. However, this week I began to experience extreme pain in my left shin just above my ankle. For the last week when I would get done with my run, my ankles and shins would ache for a few hours, I would ice them and they would be fine. But this pain will not go away and my best guess is my shoes.

After doing all the research and the foot test, I have determined that I have a pretty high arch (VERY thin line for the middle of my foot in my footprint) and judging from the wear on my shoes (outsides of the sole towards my toes and at my heel), I supinate pretty badly. I have currently been running in a pair of New Balance 460's because I got them on sale. I'm now realizing my ignorant mistake and paying for it.

A friend that used to work at Luke's Locker recommended the Brooks Glycerin 6 if I can find them. Apparently the Glycerin 7 is a lot different and not recommended?

I live in Greenville, MS and do not have a decent running store within 200 miles of me so I'm going to have to purchase based on recommendations. If anyone would like to offer their two cents, please do!!
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
can't find much info on the 460s, but its definitely not really a running shoe...its more of a walking/hiking shoe.

I haven't had the Glycerin 6s and 7s on side by side, but there shouldn't be a radical difference in the two shoes, although there will be some.
AgGuitarPlayer

Overstock has the glycerin 6 for 69.99, I guess I'll try those and hopefully this solves my shin and ankle problem.

aggie00, what is a good pair of neutral-to-mild pronation shoes w/ good arch support? my arches ache quite a bit after long runs in my Brooks Launch
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
neutral shoes, by definition, have no arch support.

if you are looking for something similar to the launch that has some stability, you could look at the Brooks Axiom.

After a lot of research, I just bought the avant+. I'm wearing them around the house right now and they feel great. Three mile run in the morning will be the first test.

Chose them over the lunarglides, they felt like they had a better combo of soft cushioning and support.
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
i have a pair of avants on order. i thought they felt great and can't beat the price (especially when you figure in my discount).

i still hate the glides, but there are people that really love them.
isotaptx
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Update: avants felt perfect. Soft, without being mushy, if that makes any sense. Snug in the heel and forefoot, plenty of room in the toe box. If they last me even 3 or 4 months, they might end up being my favorites of all time.

Has anyone tried the Asics Kayano 16?

I went to Fleet Feet today off Louetta in Spring, and they had a pair of them. My main question involves the "off-centered" lacing that they put on them that is supposed to reduce the pressure on the top of the foot (according to the girl at the store--she probably had a little bit of the Sunday afternoon "I want to get off work" deal going because I wasn't that impressed with the service). Anyways, I tried them on, but they felt weird because the lowest inside lace hole on both feet was right on top of the joint at the bottom of my arches. This basically created a big, uncomfortable "lump". Anyways, I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar experience with this model (or other off-centered laces).

BTW, I would up getting another pair of Saucony Hurricanes, which is what I have been wearing since January. I felt like I might have known more about the shoes than the girl just from having read this thread a few times, but it didn't matter because I was going to go with one shoe or the other.

They did have a pretty neat weight analyzer there that maps out the pressure regions of your foot (I'm not sure why it is needed, but it was neat anyway). Anyone know anything about that machine either?

03 - i can't find any of the apparel catalogs right now. if i can find one, i'll give you the name of them.

I finally found them on the nike website. IMO it's tough to find things on their site if you don't know exactly what it's called. they're called two-in-one.

there's two different kinds. the tempo track, the pacer shorts. do you know if there's a big difference in these?
'03ag
How long do you want to ignore this user?
ha. ok I'm an idiot. the tempo track has a regular liner. the pacers have a compression short built in. what's the purpose of this?

also. you have any idea what happens to all dated gear nike sells? I bought a shirt at the chicago marathon that turned out to be a size big. I was hoping to find a replacement somewhere in cyberspace, but no luck so far.

So, what is the main difference between the Mizuno Nirvana, Alchemy, and Inspire? Also, what would be your favorite stability shoe?

RunTex had me try a Saucony Omni, Brooks Adrenaline, and some Etonic shoe. Last time I ran in the brooks my arches ended up hurting like a mofo after houston.
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
the nirvana has more stability than the inspire. I'm not familiar with the alchemy.

i don't really have a "favorite" stability shoe. I'm neutral so I've never run in a stability shoe. I can't really pick a favorite.

Aggie...Any updates on the Avants?

I am looking to replace my LT with some Christmas gifts and want to get a similar shoe if possible.
