thanks oo. I think I piled on the milegae too quickly last time...I'll be taking it a bit slower here on out.

i probably should update the list...many of the shoes have updated since this was originally posted.

In this month's Runner's World, they review the Merrell CT Converge (neutral cushioned) in their Fall shoe guide. Any thoughts? I have been running in the 21 series, but may be up for a change as I've had a bit of foot pain as of late.

Just curious. I'd never heard of Merrell before.

merrell is big in the hiking/trail running/outdoor kinda world. don't know how good there stuff really is.

my hiking boots are merrell. as '03 said, they seem to be more trail/hiking. they always sponsor teams in adventure racing and such. I've always seem them more as an adventure sport type shoe.

I picked up a pair of Brooks Adreneline 7's for a cheap price a couple months ago. THE best shoe I've found, for me. No "hot" left foot or blister on the left like the all the other shoes I've tried.

Are the 8's the same as the 7's? Seems like I read on here, the 8's didn't fit/feel as good as the 7's.

I currently alternate my 7's and 8's. my old 7's for the short stuff and the 8's on my longer days.

I like the 8 a lot, but it definitely feels different. I think I prefer it. it's not as firm as the 7 was.

I'm sold. Academy has them at $78.00.

My bro's bro-in-law runs the Fleet Feet here at the Village. They put me in some NB that were more narrow than I'm used to - I'll have to find the model. The pad of my foot below my big toe rubs the worst blisters I've ever had running - almost like the insole is pinching my foot. It's not the socks - I use wright socks and never had a problem.
I have very high arches and overpronate (actually a little knock-kneed so my stride goes heel, roll over to big toe)
Any recs?

Aggie...how true oare the lunar Trainers running size wise? The vomeros I have are about as short at 10 1/2 that I could wear. I have read that the Lunars are running a bit small...is it best to order a 1/2 size up?
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
my lunars (trainers) are the same size as all my other shoes, however, i have heard the racers run a bit small.

How common is it for strides to evolve the longer you run? I used to run in Nike Kantara's, then moved to NB 767's for a couple of rounds. Lately, my feet have been aching with the 767's, but when I go out in my Cascadia's I feel great, even on concrete. I know Cascadia's are way more neutral than the 767's, so should I consider dumping the 767's altogether?

I'll probably end up going to Luke's soon and getting a gait analysis to make sure. Just wanted the opinions on here.
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
we found (through gait analysis) that the cascadia tended to have a little correction in it even though its neutral. the 767 isn't a super "heavy" stability shoe. that could explain it.

however, yes, it is possible for your biomechanics to change. If you strengthen certain muscles over time to correct muscle imbalances, it can change your gait. It all depends on why you overpronate...it can be due to your arch flexing or a muscle imbalance.

Aggie00 - I have run in the Ascis Nimbus 9 (size 8 2E) since February. I probably do 10 miles per week on average. (I bet I have 200-250 miles on them.) I started having some pain in my shins so I assume it's time for new shoes. (This is usually what tips me off.) I am 5'7'', 200lbs. I have been very happy with the shoe. I wish the cushioning would have lasted a little longer. Is the Nimbus 10 much different? That is the one that is in store now.
AggieOO

200-250 miles seems a little soon, but at 200 lbs you are putting a bit more stress on the shoe than someone who is 150 lbs. No offense, at 175 I'm considered a "heavier" runner too.

As far as I know, there wasn't much changed between the 9 and 10, but I haven't had the 10 on so I'm not 100%.

even at 200 lbs, I suspect you're wearing those shoes around, even when you're not running. my brother weighs about that much and his Cumulus last much longer. the nimbus should have about the same durability.
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
yeah, you should really be getting at least 300 miles out of the shoes. and that's a minimum.

as '03 said, if you are doing other activities in them, that would contribute to the breakdown.

i'm on my second pair of adrenalines, but am thinking about stepping up to the new trance. should that be an easy transition? I asked a guy at luke's about the differences in them. he thought there wasn't much except the trance had a little more ventilation, some more cushioning and some nicer materials. he also said it felt more flexible to him. would more flexible translate to a little less stability, or is that totally different?

Bought me a pair of lunar trainers...found them at lukes locker...I bought the 10.5 but am a bit hesitant on if I will keep them as they fit great on my foot now, but i wonder after 20 miles how they will fit.

Well after a run I think they probably run a half size to small...I could feel my toe coming up near the edge of the shoe when I ran...not really rubbing, but just to close for my comfort. Going to trade them in for a size 11 which should give me plenty of room.
AggieOO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
my trainers seem fine....the racers seem to run small though.

Aggie00, I'm not sure how much help this will be to you. But, I just bought the 10's and after a couple runs they feel great.

It's still hard for me not to run in my 8's though...I feel like they are apart of me.

just bought the new trance. ran 5 miles in them. feel great so far.

Just bought a pair of Adrenaline 8's. This is the first pair of shoes that I've ever bought not solely based on looks. I suppose this will cut about 30-sec off my mile time and enable me to run 10-20% further?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
the adrenaline is a great shoe. I have a pair of 8's and just retired a pair of 7's. i'm assuming you got fitted then? i was kind of the same way. I always got whatever pair of asics that I thought looked good at a decent price. I never would have considered brooks until I got fitted.

I got about 380 miles out of my 7's, but at 195 I'm kinda on the heavy side.
HouAggie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Do you keep a tally on how many miles you put on a pair of shoes? Never thought about this before now.

At 220lbs, I suppose I'm considered a heavy runner myself.

that's how you know when you should be replacing your shoes.

Did the Asics 2130 replace the 2120? Are they the same shoe?

Also, in terms of stability, are the 2120 less stabilizing than the 3000, which is less stabilizing than the Kayano? Or is cushion the primary difference between the models?

TIA!

yes, essentially. however, some (read: very few) runners will be able to tell the difference in the two shoes.

3000 will have slightly more stability, plus it is built for late-stage overpronators, which i'm not sure if i buy that whole concept or not. it will also have a little more cushioning.

the kayano will have more cushioning and stability than the 2130 or the 3000.

Can anyone compare the Brooks Trance to the Adrenelin 7 and 8?

The Adrenelin 7 is by far the best shoe I've worn. The 8 just doesn't seem to give the same support & comfort. I always have some sort of ache, pain, or "hot" left foot, during or after the run in the 8.

How does the Trance fit into that equation?

Thanks.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I went from the adrenaline 7 to the 8 with no problems. felt like the same shoe to me only with a little more cushion in the 8, which I liked. just goes to show you how personal this whole process is.

I actually just bought the new trance. it's a great shoe with more cushion, but to me feels like it has less stability than the adrenaline(which I don't think is brooks intention, just how they feel to me). I did 20 miles in them the other day, and I think I might stick with my adrenalines for the marathon. I've done a couple of shorter runs in them since then, and I'm doing 12 this morning, so i might change my mind.

it's a great shoe and I feel fast as hell in them, but I might not want to do more than 10 miles or so in them.

as always the best thing to do is go to a good running store and talk to them about it. they won't try to sell you the trance just because it's more expensive.

Thanks for the info. I just hope I can still find the 7. I purchased the 7 for $60 at Sports Authority and they are now sold out in my size. It sounds like the Trance is giving the same issue the 8's are giving me. Just not quite right for longer distances.

Aggie00

There been any issue with regular runners running in the Lunar Racers? My current plan is towards the end of November to buy my "marathon" shoes and I will either stick with the Trainers which I have liked a lot or look at the Racers.

Any comparisons of the two?

thought I'd give a little review on the Brooks Trance 8 now that I have around 100 miles on them. first impressions were good. nice cushy shoe with decent stability, although not as much as the Adrenalines. at first could feel the lack of stability in my ankles, but after 3 or 4 runs I got used to it.

I like the shoe and I feel fast in them, but I've found that the cushioning is only good for about 8 or 9 miles. anything double digits or more I run in my Adrenalines. This model of the Trance has Brooks' new biodegradable mogo midsole, and I wonder if that has something to do with it. I also weigh 195lbs, so lighter runners might not have the problem.

AggieOO

I've gotten used to the feel of the Trance, but for reasons stated above it's not a good marathon shoe for me. I'm looking for my next shoe to have a similar feel to the trance, but with a little more stability and a midsole that will hold up longer. My Adrenalines will take a beating, but they're starting to feel a little constricting.

I've tried on the Asics Kayano 14 which feel weird. to me they feel like there's lots of posting in the heel, and none in the forefoot, so the balls of my feet roll way in, but my ankles don't.
