Yeah, that attorney BS isn't going to help anything.

Unless body cams and what not show he was actually executed by the LEO, stating things like this should get him immediately fined heavily the second a judge is assigned.

When I saw Charles Adams was the atty, I immediately dropped any notions of this being overblown. He's the guy that used to debate Quanell X on TV and is pretty anti woke.

From the family's attorney. He posted a ring video on Facebook that shows the two cars en route to the family's home. Nothing earth-shattering.

Yeah and the initial radio in the officers made about the shooting was "accidental discharge". I think the officer is cooked.

I'll still wait for it, but the attorney is [not surprisingly] glossing over the fact that this guy didn't do some really basic stuff like call 911 to let them know he had issues with pulling over where he did and instead just decided to not pull over at all.

Maybe he didn't do anything wrong - hell, it's entirely possible. I was pulled over more than once in LJ, Angleton, Brazoria County and a lot of other places growing up simply because I was a young kid out way later than I probably should have been. I bet 3/4 of the MIP's people got when I was in HS were simply because they were the only car on the road at 2am and the cop wanted to see what the car full of high school kids was doing at that hour. It's part of small town life IMO.

But in exactly none of the cases did I decide to ignore the cop and just keep on driving until I decided it was time to pull over or go all the way to my house. Even back then we were taught to not do things like that.

None of that is worthy of being shot, make no mistake about it, but crappy choices made by the dude definitely escalated the situation IMO and that should be as much of a focus as any actions the LEO took, didn't take, etc. The attorney throwing race into it is garbage IMO.

The deputy is toast, no doubt about that. Based on the wonderful highly educated facebook comments from Brazoria County residents, none of the cities or the county should have any type of police force. Hell, apparently the Rangers are corrupt too.

Man the FB comments on any southern Brazoria County page are just brutal.

And those people operate billions of dollars of petrochemical plants.

Agreed. Everything the attorney said may be true.

But at the end of the day, the kid still didn't pull over when prompted by the police.

No, but it can lead to a nervous or instable LEO getting more nervous and potentially fearing the worst when you drive 60mph away from them for a few miles at night (if that happened as alleged). I always treat cops like they are a PMS'ing wife, and it has never done me wrong. Let them have their way, let them win the arguments, let them belittle you etc etc.

Unless there is more to the story, kid definitely didn't deserve that outcome...but I can see why an LEO might have thought sh** was about to potentially get serious.

At least twice in my life, I have led cops about a mile or so to get off a busy dangerous road to pull into a parking lot or onto a safer street, but I put my flashers on, slowed down a little below the speed limit, and used my hand out of the window to point where I was going. A lot of kids just don't know better though...and it seems that parents are not teaching them how to properly interact with law enforcement these days.
Texaggie7nine

Kid was dumb to drive home while being followed by a cop car with sirens, however if what the atty says is true, I'm not as judgmental as if the cop car just pulled behind the kid in traffic like a regular traffic stop. If the cops were watching them and following them for some time, I can understand wanting to get back to your parents to be sure. It's still a dumb decision.

However, any cop should be trained enough to not accidentally shoot a scared kid in the chest just because he didn't stop for a traffic stop. If the atty is correct, and the cop didn't even get out verbal instructions to the kids before shooting the driver, he's in all kinds of problems.

I've known some good LEO's in Brazoria County.

And I've known some that were the kid who made fire truck sounds up and down the halls in elementary school and never really grew out of it. And had some kind of inferiority complex that could only be solved by getting to wear a badge and gun.

This LEO will get doxxed at some point and we will see what we have in this situation.

To be fair, 99.999% of the people commenting don't operate the plants. They may build them, but they aren't the brains of the outfits down there.

Not at all. But it certainly created the circumstances.

I get being scared, but he should have called 911. Or pulled over in a well-lit area.

No doubt. Also, the quality of cops nowadays isn't what it was 10, 20+ yrs ago. Simple eyeball test tells us that.

It's worse than people think. So many good officers have turned in their badges because the departments are going sideways. 13 more years and I'm out. Not sticking around like some folks have.

I have a couple of buddies that are operators. They are fairly sketchy but overall have a little snap to them. I assume most are the same way - smart, but not particularly driven (which is why they are operators) and love to cook and piss contractors off.

The officer that accidentally shot the kid has been identified. Younger guy it appears, 2 years on the force. Kevin Tippet, I don't recognize the name but that doesn't mean much around here anymore either.

Lots of officers from other states are coming to Texas for jobs. Not saying this guy is from out state. It's the problem I've seen with guys coming from New York, California. They think because they are now in a red state or red county they can be billy bad ass.

Some of these clowns shouldn't be allowed to handle a potato gun much less have a badge. Unfortunately requirements have lowered to get people to join. Psych and physical requirements have been lowered, to sub standard. Even worse in the upper ranks. Bigger the idiot, bigger the promotion.

As a LEO myself, I cringe when I'm pulled over.

My gummy-bear died. My unicorn ran away. My imaginary friend got kidnapped. The voices in my head wont talk to me.

Well now there is a protest scheduled for Saturday. Should be fun to watch from a distance.

Complete with a mass balloon release, which irks the hell out of me.

I believe balloon releases will be illegal starting in August.

One of my friends texted me about this earlier this morning. Her father in law is this guy's preacher. She said he was a great man with a great family, and their church is devastated.

We were talking about the foolishness of taking this upon yourself, and I commented that we are at a point where crime is so rampant and there are seemingly no consequences, I can get wanting to take it into your own hands.

I personally would not do it. But I could definitely see my husband doing it if it was one of our girls. But he always carries, so…

Still, just an awful story.
