Had no idea what a farce the Michelin program is!

If a place is inoperable due to external factors, apparently the Michelin food snob dorks can revoke the Star lol. What a crock.

Then again, a tire business in the food rating game has always been weird.

The guide is for restaurants currently in operation. Hidden Omakase is currently not. How is that hard to understand? How far back should they go to include closed restaurants?

Slight differerence between temporary shutdown due to car accident or something like vandalism, and permanent closure. You democrat incels truly are special. You need to score your first vagina.

To be fair...based on what the owner said, he doesn't sound certain if or when it will re-open. That doesn't sound like a temporary shutdown.

The same owners recently closed a Union Kitchen in Katy's Stableside shopping center. An Indian restaurant is moving into the space.

I never understood how the Jax Grill in Belaire keeps plugging along but Union Kitchen only seems to have staying power in Kingwood. The Union Kitchen on Belaire was always packed in spite of the building being a bit of a dump. I feel like they would have been fine if they had just moved.

Union Kitchen needs to decide what it wants to be.

Is it somewhat upscale and semi family friendly or family friendly casual neighborhood dining?

The robot servers in Cypress are pretty annoying, but the kids love em I guess.

The owners live in Katy and their kid goes to school my my kids. Every year they have included a free kids meal coupon to union kitchen/jax grill at the end of school. Felt kind of lame to get that this year considering the closest one is now in wither Towne Lake or Memorial. Appreciate the offer though.

Yeah there used to be a Jax in that same shopping center. Can't remember if it coexisted with Union Kitchen or if they closed it and then opened UK in the same space??

Anyway, lots of retrenchment. I imagine the rent in some of these centers is just too high for restaurants to make it.

ETA ... we don't live in Katy but we're out that way because we visit Sonoma Wine Bar often, which was adjacent to the UK at Stableside.

UK and Jax were across from each other at Stableside. Jax closed first and became Manditos. Then UK closed up earlier this month. They cited an increase in rent as their reason for closing and I dont doubt that played a part in it, but after the first year being open it never looked that crowded. As others have said, I think they need to decided of their concept is nice restaurant that happens to allow kids, or just fully embrace being a family restaurant. I only went in person once and it was with all the in-laws. It was nice, but at that price point I wasn't coming back with the kids but it wasn't nice enough for me to want to make it a spot for date night either.

Yep...we went recently, and while the quality of the food was still good, it was like the portions had been cut in half from the previous time we visited, maybe a yr ago. All we could do was laugh at how small my serving was. Patio was packed at 7:30pm bc the weather was nice, but inside was maybe 20%, on a Friday. Will be surprised if the place is still there a yr from now. Place was always bumping when we moved in a few yrs ago.

Wonder if the average person is just starting to feel the prolonged financial crunch more and more and throwing in the towel on $20-25/meal places like this?

I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. Back when money was being stupidly thrown around in O&G we had a PM that would take us to BRC semi-regularly. A few years ago I mentioned going to State Fare to the same group of people that used to go to BRC and mentioned that it was tangentially related to BRC and I got a collective "eh."

Oh yes. That crowd took over SF…. Last time I was there for a work dinner, a group of big girls basically in lingerie with their booty hangin out came in and ordered a frozen flight and shared a bowl of chicken wings. I knew it was only a matter of time before it closed.

And Sara's #2 on 11th Street used to be nails. The Heights around 2005-2010 was a fun and intersting place to live as a recent grad.

Yep, virtually zero dense mid-to-high-rise housing...just a few small 2-story garden style apt complexes scattered here and there.

Buddy and I took a couple of mexican gals back to one of those apt complexes after meeting at a shady cantina just north of N Main and Cavalcade called "Anna's Place" (Now called Berwick's Bird of Paradise). We gave them $20 to bring back a gram of weed and they sprinted off with our money. Play stupid games...

Most fun 3 years of my life.

Thought they were already closed?

ETA:
This was Highline Park that it happened at. Brain fart

I used to go there for a bit after they opened. Asked if we could smoke outside and were told yes. Since it was cigars, we tucked ourselves back into an area where no one else was. Others were smoking cigarettes as well. The server was great. The manager came out all pissed off and told us we either have to put out the cigars or leave. Nothing else. Just came out pissed off.

We left. Haven't been back since. This was before MKT went entirely smoke-free.

This is a bummer, but we never put this in our rotation. Like you, we always enjoyed our meal there but just didn't think about it enough.

What's kind of crazy is they have their BBQ that's really good. Two blocks away people are lining up to wait an hour for Truth. Just a different experience.

Saw where Ronnie Killen is selling the property mostly for the money. Apparently it's going to become a gas station.

Not a great trade off for the area, but we're the ones to blame.
