KTRH said this morning that Lina lied about how many hurricanes she had "led" through as seven.

FACT CHECK:

There have been two.

Even Harvey was before her time.

I tried to steal $11M but got caught. If you invite me to speak, I'll tell you about the money they haven't found yet.

Natural disasters since she moved to Houston at age 15 (2006)

2008 - Ike
2017 - Harvey
2019 - weird little TS that whipped up one day in September and was gone just as fast
2021 - Freeze
2024 - Beryl

Plus a few flood events thrown in, all before she took power.

So not even 7 in her lifetime in Houston.

Technically Nicholas in 2021, although that ended up not really affecting most of the greater area.

Probably close to half a billion after all is said and done.

The amount of money spent on infrastructure improvements and regulatory hurdles would probably be higher than the cost and installation of the reactor system itself.

As usual the inept County government is clueless how to do something... IF they really wanted to have an impact on reliable electricity for the County, then get into the tree trimming business. Electricity generation and distribution is not the issue. CenterPoint's neglect about trees is a majority of the problem.

Three weeks ago, I reported tree limbs contacting the power lines behind our house during moderate to high winds. That day, CenterPoint sent out a rep. He quickly assessed the situation and advise they would dispatch a tree trimming company. Well guess what, still haven't seen anyone.

The only time generation was an issue was the winter freeze. Everything else was faults on distribution and transmission lines.

Putting in a "power hub" (is that a fancy term for a generator?) would not solve anything.

Even during the winter freeze power generation was an issue only because of stupid governmental and bureaucratic distortion.

Court is today 2 hearings on setting tax rates for the county and flood control. County will max effective tax rate at 3.5% and 8% for Flood Control. The latter will trigger a vote in November by the general population.

I thought they got away with the 8% vote by a loophole in the law for disaster declaration?

If they did I'm not aware of it. If it's over 3.5 it triggers a rollback election.

And...you are right. There is an exemption. I had no idea, state lawmakers allowed this, so the blame falls on the state legislature as well.

Ok, found it. It's worse:

https://www.newsweek.com/texas-homeowners-tax-hike-after-storms-harris-county-1944313

The county is exceeding their 3.5% cap due to recent storms, taxes are going to go up 8%. I'd expect them to try to use "recent storms" every year here on out.

This will go to the general fund and there are no strings attached that it has to be used on recovery efforts, per Ramsey.

In addition the commissioners are seeking a voter approved tax rate for Flood Control beyond 3.5%.

Double whammy.

I can't remember which entity it is, but there's one more entity with their hand out wanting a tax increase. Argh, my damned memory.

I think it's HISD.
AlaskanAg99
How long do you want to ignore this user?

HISD sets their own tax rate.

Through HC Court they set the rate for the county, flood, port and health system.

Also, now they're trying to pass another fireworks holiday, Diwali, for Halloween. Looks like this is coming through Precinct 4. Vote on next court.

Decided to go find it. Yup, it was HISD.

COH was floating the idea of floating a bond to bail them out. I don't live in the city so I haven't been tracking it.

COH residents could have their asses taxed if HC/FC/HISD/COH all pass.

I have only been half assed listening to court and I think a bond may be floated for the Harris Health System.
