Not Houston proper but (and follow me here) the cousin of a friend's friend was killed outside the damn Chuck E. Cheese on 1960 & 59 on NYE. Evidently, he was intentionally run over and then somebody got out of the car and pumped a few rounds into him before hightailing it out of there.
Moral of the story- stay away from Chuck E. Cheese.

According to the story, the perps were driving the wrong way down a row of angled parking spaces. Maybe they came to close to him or something. The story indicated that he had words with them about their driving and they killed him for it.

I was thinking the same thing, but people seem to love shooting each other for the stupidest **** these days so you never know.
Speaking of bad drivers, I've passed 3 people driving the wrong way down a road in the last week. All 3 on the entire wrong side of a median. So sketchy.

And it's a small thing but it always pisses me off when I'm at the grocery store and said ferals always are the ones who drive the wrong way down the one-way rows of angled parking spaces where it's too damn narrow to fit two vehicles.

It's not COVID. People are just stupid. Most of them. Like "how does their brain remember to signal to their body to keep breathing" level of stupid.
We could have an entire separate thread on instances where we have seen people driving with their headlights off at night or in inclement weather. As vehicles have done more for drivers so lights are "automatic", we somehow have fewer people driving with lights on than ever, or being confused that the little bit of light from their DLR's is actually their headlights.

I've seen at least 20 cars in the past month almost get rear ended or t-boned going across 2 to 4 lanes of traffic to try to get to a turn/exit. Had one stop dead on 10 east downtown in front of an 18 wheeler, luckily he was paying attention and empty or that cars occupants would be growing grass out of their ears.

And from an article 1-2 months ago, when they skip town, the county never goes after the bond, so no one loses except those who wish to see the justice system work properly.
When bonds are never foreclosed on anyway, there's no need to make offenders put up even 10% or send a bounty hunter after the scofflaw. Rinse and repeat.

If a defendant skips court, prosecutors can move to revoke or forfeit the defendant's bond. Revocations trigger an arrest warrant and their return to court upon their capture. Here's where the whole incestuous relationship is exposed. The bond companies charge low rates because even when their "clients" violate their conditions or no-show for court, the courts just revoke the bond instead of going after it via forfeiture. If the bond companies started getting dinged for the full bond amount, I'm pretty sure they would start charging higher rates or they would quickly go out of business. Either would likely result in more of the trash staying behind bars. But that won't happen because the judges and DA's office want the criminals out on the streets vs. behind bars, so they just take the easy route and revoke the bond, allowing the whole process to start over.
