KHOU just said 291 so far this year. We seemed to slow down a bit earlier this month but it feels like things have picked up again this week.
On pace for 452. Only takes a few bad weekends to get over that 500 hump. Is there a time of year they get worse? I'm pretty sure its the summer in Chicago. Might be too hot for all that here though

It's a real bummer that the murders in the county which are so close to the city limits can't count against the murder rate. The county murder rate should def be taken into account here too.
Seriously. If they can include 18 counties stretching from BCS to Beaumont to Victoria in the "Houston area" for our Covid cases I'd think it only makes sense when a vunnable kills someone in the same areas.

No, we are invested in Houston, which has been overrun by criminals and liberals and liberal criminals. This failure starts all the way at the top and is playing out on our streets. No one wants the number to go any higher than it is today. I think this thread simply serves as a place to discuss the failings of the leadership and what it is doing to our fair city. unfortunately right now it is random murders and releasing felons while simultaneously giving away our money in the name of 'safety' which they obviously do not actually care about.

So you think that I want people to get murdered to post pr gloat or whatever about it on this board? Discussing what is going on is not being invested in it happening. If there wasn't another murder in houston all year id be ecstatic. Watching the city deteriorate and speculating on whether or not it will be worse or not at a given time is not obsession. I wish everyone cared about this and what is causing it, but that obviously is not the case. Unfortunately it is only going to get worse because the people in charge are contributing to the problem more every day.

Very few truly "random" murders happening. Most of the ones that are not domestic or romantically driven are drug or gang crime related, the cops just don't release all of what they know to the news services. Some like the road rage killings seem random, but they generally started somewhere with somebody being an ******* and aren't just a random case of somebody driving around shooting people in traffic.Sea Speed said:

That is fair and I probably shouldn't have used random, but the point still remains. Crime is increasing while the city leaders are actively trying to do less about it, which makes for a terrible outcome for the non criminal citizenry. When the running joke is that it isn't worth it to call the cops for anything outside of rape or murder because they aren't going to do anything about it, there is a massive problem.
Made this incident a couple days ago, 610 north near Shepherd. Nobody was hit but there was a infant in that car seat and pre-teen in the SUV. Story was they were exiting and may have cut off another driver. So they say. There's a few more bullet holes in the door that's opened too.

That was the first one for me that day. Other shooting that day was self inflicted to chest (doesn't fit this thread). Previous day was a carjacking at a gas station (late hours). One deceased, one transported.
Oh, I totally agree with you about leadership and how terrible the problem is. I just think it is irresponsible for the news stations not to do a deeper dive on these kinds of reports and pretend like there are all these "totally random" murders happening. They report on a murder scene where 5 guys show up and barge their way into somebody's house and shoot one guy that is in his late teens or early 20s, steal nothing, and don't harm anybody else and say "the motive is unclear". Anybody with half a brain can guess one of a couple of motives for that and will nail 99% of the crimes like that. Either it was a drug or gang related hit or the guy messed with somebody else's woman. Asking about 3 questions of the Karen that lives a few apartments down and is avidly watching the cops carry the body out would likely get the news people the answer to why it happened, but they just wait around and wait for the police spokesperson to tell them that they have no idea why it happened and faithfully report that. Tell Karen that her face won't be on TV, and she will tell you the whole story before you can get the 2nd question out.Sea Speed said:

But you are absolutely right about the impact of not pursuing lesser crimes aggressively. The guy who got sent to the jailhouse and was released the same night on a PR bond after getting charged with a couple of felonies isn't going to think twice about popping a few caps into the car that cut him off in traffic.
Yes media is certainly culpable. I'm pretty sure fox is the only channel that is even covering the trend of bonded out folks repeatedly committing more more crime including murder. I also dont think most WANT to report what is really going on. Presenting everything as senseless and random probably nets them viewers, while almost noone cares if some drug dealing gang banger gets offed.
