[As already noted privately with Bender. We have no email record of any users complaining about Tikka and before yesterdays Tikka thread, Tikka had about 20 flags thrown and cleared(because it was deleted or another reason) on his nearly 3,000 posts over the last 3 years. That is not going to be a record that prompts a full investigation into a user and their potential past accounts. Just commenting and arguing with a user on threads does not create a record for us to reference and look into. Bender was pulled from the site for 62 minutes and pulled from the site at the exact same time at Tikka. He has already posted again today and had full freedom to post 62 minutes after he was pulled off. We worked as quickly as possible to confirm things well enough on both the thread front and users involved. Outside of users posting mischaracterizations over our intent during that 62 minutes last night and throughout today, everything would have been resolved in less than an hour last night or resolved completely yesterday around 2:30pm had Bender simply emailed us his case against Tikka or resolved even earlier if someone had emailed us at any point in time over the three years the account existed. Again, if there are messages(not posts on threads, messages sent to us via email or PM) that any of you have sent, please forward them to us, but as far as we are concerned, this case is closed. -Staff]

They can run their site in whichever manner they'd like. I got banned once accidentally. Simply emailed and asked, and I was quickly unbanned.

I think this is a reminder for all of us to be a bit more thoughtful with our responses - I.e. don't be an ass - and, sometimes sarcasm doesn't translate on here.

Unfortunately, I'm always an ass (not in comments usually) - so I've got that going for me.

Agreed. Instead of admitting they made a mistake, they passed the buck by blaming Bender and others.

Staff - you once gave me advice as a reason of a ban. "You need to 'read the room'". Might be a good time to listen to that wise advice now and a little bit of humbleness here would really help matters.

If there is a user causing problems, just email us with your complaint anywhere from 1 day to 3 years after they start posting with a request for us to take a look and we will take care of it. If you create a thread where a user is the title of the thread and we have to make sure nobody is actually being doxxed, it might take us 9 minutes to read a 10 page thread. Usually, it is the wrong person or the wrong reason.

Look…… when we say (poster X) is an idiot, or say he/she needs a throat punch, or I will rib kick you, or point out that they sound like an dumb arse…… it is just verbal diarrhea and kicking each other in the cojones or fupa.

If you give us a wide berth and let us self moderate, things take care of themselves for the most part!

It's when someone FULLY ENGAGES and then gets their feelings hurt and then runs to y'all to flag or report posters that is the real problem.

You gotta have really thick skin (or should have) to play in the OB.

All of the snowflake posters have a choice: engage and have fun without taking things personally……. or just hang up and get the hell outta the OB.

Staff - here's the deal. This isn't kindergarten, and I know I speak for more than myself when I say that I have no intention of ever running to you to protect me from meanie-meanie over there because they said something I don't like. Because it isn't kindergarten.

I just don't get the mentality that the answer is to run and tattle tale on somebody. Just like the excuse of "thread derailing" is a garbage excuse to ban somebody. It's like you've never been in any real conversation before where it may start off talking about XYZ but within 10 minutes you are talking about ABC because something was mentioned and it naturally shifted the course of the convo.

Really - unless somebody is overtly threatening somebody, exposing them beyond what they have voluntarily posted already or (i guess) porn blasting - not much reason at all to ban anybody. We are adults. And sometimes (most of the time) adults use things like sarcasm, hyperbole, dark humor and many other methods of communication in various conversations. It isn't the end of the world, and it would be hella nice if texags as a whole would take the approach of "toughen up buttercup - it's a message board, you are not obligated to partake in a discussion if you don't like what is said" and "you instigated this, don't come running to me because you picked a fight you couldn't handle" in 99.9% of situations. I guarantee you that almost every poster would be happier, you would regain some posters that quit the site because of the over-moderation and inconsistend moderation, and the handful of problem children posters would either learn to not be babies or go elsewhere.

It would literally be a win-win for everybody and make the site a better place.

[Since some of you insist on continuing to talk about it, we will as well. Most users on this platform will have 98-100% of their posts untouched. We have over 72,000 threads and 2.6 millions posts made on the platform every year. This amounts to about 200 new threads and 7,100 new posts each day. Obviously there are peak and valley days throughout the year. On any given day we might delete or lock 1-5 threads. Many days not a single thread gets locked or deleted. This means on most days anywhere from 97-100% of threads go untouched. It's at or near 100% in most of the forums on this platform. Most mod activity is confined to a handful of forums. Let's take the day of the assassination attempt. We took action on about 200 posts. This would be a day where we would be well above the average number of new threads and posts in a single day, but for our purposes here we will still use the daily average. On a day where temperatures are running particularly hot, we still left alone at least 97% of all posts, but the real number is probably closer to 99%. We get that some of you believe these numbers should be 100% all the time. No users, posts, or threads ever get touched for any reason whatsoever. Considering what gets posted around here(entire platform) on a daily basis, we think numbers ranging in the 97-99% are pretty good. The stats on OB are closer to 100% untouched all time and we have no intentions of changing that. -Staff]

I will say this though. I've been a mod before for a coupla years on another well known site with a userbase in the millions. By the end, I was such a jaded and disillusioned ******* that I had to step away. Modding is the absolute worst responsibility I can think for a website. And I was a volunteer which makes it worse somehow. By definition, a mod is kneedeep in all the **** a website userbase creates. It's maddening after a while. At least here on TA they give enough of a damn to even attempt to explain it. Personally, I wouldn't have bothered in my late modding days. Not worth the effort. A few clicks, make the problem go away, ignore the *****ing, move on to the next burning dumpster. Rinse and repeat.

I ain't white knighting but I do have some perspective on the modding side of the matter. It's a ****ty thankless job manned by fallible humans (all Aggies too I think?) and a fair number of us here ain't paying anyways. There is so, so much worse out there yall. I promise. This was handled poorly initially but they fixed it and quickly too. Matter is done with in my eyes and here I am, continuing to use the product.

Cool to see some old names pop up though! Maybe Tikka was just the friends we made along the way.

At the risk of coming across as a brown noser, thank you for the engagement on this thread and making the effort to explain the issues from your side. I know not everybody will agree with how things went down, but I appreciate the willingness to talk about it. As with most, I think there is room to improve on how the decision to ban a poster is made and how the reason is communicated, but seeing the numbers spelled out as you did above is helpful to keeping it in perspective.
