Another from Florida. I'm bad with IDs, so this might be a duplicate water snake.

On the other thread but will post here too:

Eastern Rat Snake my son caught the other day.

Canebrake or Timber Rattler- depending on where your in Virginia. (I didn't kill it as it's on endangered list here in Va.)

Brown Snake I believe . It's been a few years. My son catches these around our flower bed frequently.

My sons catch

One snake my son is not ready for, but willing to learn. Copperhead Juvenile

Another Canebrake again not mine:

We're over in Damascus, Va on Whitetop Mountain on long weekends and holidays as my dad has a cabin up there. He lives in Texas and comes up for summers to avoid the Texas heat.

The area your in is awesome with no state income tax, to boot.

Yeah, it's nice. Lots of places to fish and hunt. I didn't get a deer this year. I'm trying to find an outdoor job like I used to have now that I'm here. I really need to take the boat out more often.

Great stuff. That black timber is sweet!

Top snake is a northern watersnake.

Are those present in Texas? That one stumped me and I'm pretty good on most Texas snakes.
Sorry, the pic of the water snake and the moccasin were both taken around the same lake in the Memphis, TN area.

Saw a baby moc on the same lake a couple days ago but not seen much else so far this year.

Passed this guy swimming across the intracoastal yesterday. We circled him from about 15-20 feet a few times. As we did he constantly turned and came after the boat the entire time. Not sure if it was because he was tired, checking us out, aggression, or what, but he was super intent on getting to our boat.

I've always wanted to see a rattlesnake out swimming in the bay so I was pretty excited to see it. Just glad I was in a boat and not out on a wade.

Exact same thing happened to me on the intercostal in Galveston near Greens Lake.

I am pretty sure they just think the boat is land or something that gives them a break from swimming. What's creepy is when they lift their head up and swim towards the boat and all you have is a fishing pole.... I like snakes, but not thanks.

There is a Coast Guard safety reg that you have to have a paddle in your boat , if it of a certain size. My old fishing buddy had a 24ft Mako many many moons ago that would have been HELL to paddle any distance but we were checked several times. He used to fuss and cuss about having to carry that damn paddle UNTIL we were just popping some corks in East Bay on a lazy summer day mostly drinking beer and half asleep...UNTIL.....one of us kinda like up and saw fella just like pictured above about 1 ft from the boat full on geared up to pay us a visit. Ole buddy found just what a good paddle could do to Mr Rattlesnake that day...... After he sold the boat he saved the paddle and branded it SNAKE KILLER..had it hanging on his man cave wall for years......

Thanks 12f. We obviously let him be but I'm not sure how he fared the oil barge we passed a couple hundred yards after leaving him.

I used to have several shots of rattlesnakes who got fairly up close & personal while fishing out of my kayak but cannot find them anywhere now.

I did have this curious water moccasin swim up to the boat (and actually under it) fishing on the Colorado above Bastrop last spring. Pretty sure I've posted these before and I did post the closest one on another snake thread a little bit ago.

He's a big fugger that keeps the rattle bugs and rodents in check, I don't mind if he samples a bit of fruit from time to time

Saw a nice 24" or so coral snake slithering across a blacktop road here in elgin. I made sure to drive around it, then backed up to make sure I got a positive ID before it went into the grass in the bar ditch. Sorry, no time for a picture.

It's not just you.

The pics of snakes in the water also creep me out. I'm not terribly afraid of snakes on land, but if I'm in the water and I see one swimming nearby all I can think of is

I've never seen one hang themselves on a fence for rain. You think they have any more of those I could pick up and bring south?

Had two Facebook friends kill rat snakes that were displaced by all the flooding here in the Katy-Brookshire area. Both were certain they were water moccasins.

That being said, with all of this high water pay extra attention to the high and dry areas that were protected from these floods. A lot of critters, good and bad, have been displaced. Please be careful!

Where in Memphis? I live out in G'town and have seen a few this year.
