Cobras are cool. I've never had the opportunity to work with one, though. We had a 12-footer at one of the zoos I worked at. Seemed like the thing was always pissed off.

Just FYI, the snake was found about 50ft from the house it escaped from. An unfortunate, freak occurrence. A local aggie herper, among others, assisted the snake's owner with the recapture.

I assume the thumbs down was about allowing a venomous snake to escape. Glad it didn't wander far.

I've been meaning to post this little guy for a couple weeks it seems.
I have a camera shy yellow bellied water snake (I assume) that has decided June Bugs, Toads, and Geckos are easier meals than the fish and frogs around his pond.
He camps out nightly at my side door.

I'm curious (and don't mind showing my ignorance), how do you go about catching a snake like that? That, to me, is a big snake I wouldn't want to be anywhere near.

That is a baby Texas brown snake. Several species have a nuchal ring like that as babies that fade away as adults.

The cobra or what? I personally wouldn't attempt to catch a cobra, but I would think long tongs are a must and you have to tail the snake first.

Couple of Pictures from when I was in S. Africa 5-6 years ago. First is a common brown house snake (indigenous to S Africa), second is obiously a Burmese python, which is not indigenous but they have a similar problem there as we do in some places around here, they get too big to have as pets and have just gotten released into the wild.
