Not remotely recent (2008), but way to special if you haven't seen it.....and snake misidentification and stupidity, and not limited to the big city.

For the record, most of my mom's family is from the Big Sandy area, and both my grandparents were long time teachers there. So not a bash on the town.....though you will find some pretty special stuff around town.

Found a dead corn snake on the road today. Had only seen black rat snakes around here. Didn't know we had them in E Tenn. Will post a picture later.

I took this years ago at our place near Rusk. He was just chilling in the tree, and once we started looking at him, he slithered into a hollow in the tree. It's probably the best photo I've ever taken while in the outdoors. This snake was close to our cabin, and we found sheds year after year in the house. Last one was almost 6 feet long, but we haven't seen one in about three years.

funny... reminds of a time our family took a long walk on a hill country ranch we once owned. A day or two later, my aunt felt some slight swelling on the back of her leg, just above the ankle. You could see the two fang marks! Obviously she never felt getting bit. And the snake did not inject venom, or very little.
We always told her that that snake crawled off and died.
