A rookie posting a link that says vidme... took a gamble, but I clicked it.

It's a buttermilk racer. Looks like one from the N. Harris/Montgomery/N. Liberty County area. Really great looking snakes.

Did not take pics, but I have dispatched 4 copperheads in my CS backyard this Spring. Suggestions for preventing future trespassers?

My brother is serving a tour in West Africa and came close to stepping on a carpet viper. They posted a pic on their private company FB page of the aftermath of the engagement. I have the pic on my phone and will try to post it at some point. Scary looking snake and amaziling camouflaged.

May not be a lot you can do but a clean yard, low fence with little gap, and no rat/mice attractants might help. I take it you are close to some woods?

Yes. Woods and creek right at back of property. I don't mind the snakes, but my wife is a kill them all follower. Plus I have a two year old and a 5 month old, so I kill the copperheads. The first we have seen in three springs. I put out math balls, snake away, and sprayed malathion as a deterrent. Killed two since then. Solar sonic mole deterrent should be deployed this week. I am also going to try sulphur

Trimmed cleaned and moved everything in backyard, but drawing the line at giving up the bird feeders. I would like to try peacocks, but the wife is not going for it and she hates cats.

From what I understand most of these do nothing and are probably a waste of money.

I know 3 of the 5 did nothing and where a waste of money. I will try the other two and get back to y'all. My expectations are low, but I have to try.

Just back from a day of hiking all around Enchanted Rock with the better half and only saw a blotched water snake right as we were heading back to the parking lot. Sadly my big camera was full and didn't have a backup card so no picture but it was a good looking specimen.

Quite a bit of other wildlife but not of the snake variety.

Sorry, yes, I was asking for ID. Texas-raised daughter didn't know, nor did I. But she didn't think it looked like a poisonous one, so it lived. Was near her stable, so she wanted it to kill mice and keep the bad snakes away.

Likely won't eat other snakes but will put a dent in the mice population for sure.

Fiance sent me these. Already killed and I can't get a better picture of the head. Not sure how big, all I got was these pictures. Any ideas?

Had this guy peeking in the kitchen window this evening. The wife freaked, so I took him down and out him in the yard. He high tailed it under our deck.

This is the third snake I've seen in the last couple of months. The other two were hognose, one of which was chasing a frog when I accidentally caught it with my mower. In November, I moved into a house on the very edge of town, literally the last house on my part of the north end, so I'm sure I'm in for a snake filled summer.

I tried to explain that it's a "good" snake because it'll consume the available food source and keep other non-desirable (venomous) snakes at bay. She wasn't having it. She's now afraid to go on the back deck and has been jumpy all evening.

Cool pics. My wife would love to see that snake looking in her window. Wish we could find hognose's around here.

Curious what kind of snake this is... I know it isn't poisonous. With all the rain we have had in the Houston area I can only imagine it tried to find a nice warm dry place way too close to the serpentine belt. Needless to say it stuck it's head where it didn't belong... (Not my truck but had to help a coworker get the belt put back on.)

I didn't get a picture, but I was sitting in my backyard yesterday watching my boys play (4 and 2 years old) and they had water guns and they were screaming "zombie, zombie, get him." I see them running around the yard shooting the water guns into the ground. I saw something moving so I got up to look and they were chasing around a little texas brown snake with the water guns. I grabbed him and told them to go get their mom so we could show her. They were really excited, but my wife, not so much. The 2 year old wanted to pet it and my wife was not amused.

Came across this guy while we were out kayaking. It was on the dock and I figured it was most likely a rat snake of some kind. I used a paddle and off it went in the water. It was probably about 4ft long with red head/neck and brown body. Anyone know exactly what it was? Sorry for poor pics but wife refused to get any closer.

Last week my 7 year old went outside to get ready to play catch. He came in excited about a snake in the tree. A blue jay had taken a very large rough earth snake to eat and my son must have scared the bird off with his excitement. We waited to see if the bird would come back to get the snake hanging from a branch but it didn't and after about five minutes we gave up waiting.

The snake was about 8 feet off the ground so I got a branch to get it down as its head was still moving. Turns out it was hanging on and slightly wedged between two branches. It had blood coming from its head in a couple of areas but seemed to be moving ok so we released it in the jasmine at the base of the tree. I told the boys it had a chance to survive but didn't really know how severe the head wound was and it wasn't exactly racing away.

Fast forward to today and my 7 year old and I were looking under rocks that border the bed about 15 feet away from where the snake went in and it was coiled up under one of the rocks we turned over. It was quite active and the head wounds had already scaled over. Pretty cool to see how fast it healed up and to be able to see it so soon.

for size perspective (he's just a little guy)

I am pretty sure he is just a young diamond back water snake. but looks a lot like a young cottonmouth, just no neon tail. don't worry, he just got relocated.

Meant to post this here a while back. On Easter Sunday, while the family is at my mother-in-laws house, said mother-in-law spots a snake crawling towards her front door (inside the house). My brother-in-law (he did all the hard work) and I catch it in a bucket.

We triple-check pictures to make sure and it checks out to be a water moccasin. I take it a ways off and let it go into something more akin to its natural habitat.

Coolest part is that my mother-in-law, who is a sweet lady who worries over all kinds of stuff, wasn't even phased by it. She grew up in the mountains of southern Mexico and has seen some **** when it comes to poisonous wildlife in her home.

Glad it all happened after the egg hunt or there would've been some very overprotected/disappointed children.

You let your children play with a copperhead?

Serious note, good job dad! Always good to see this new generation of kids enjoying wildlife. Even better, you're teaching them not all snakes are bad.
