I can't even get to 1190 without going to a restarting loop. I've got it set at 1115 right now, and that's not causing any problems, so I'm okay with that. Battery doesn't seem to be that improved yet, but we'll see how it goes today.

Over clocking will not help your battery life at all.

I am sick and tired of having to fuss with stock. This 100% awake time and on the charger before NOON is killing me.

my understanding of SetCPU and the "conservative" setting is that the program is actually monitoring the kernel and adjusting the processor speed as necessary, depending on the activity. Consequently, it is conserving power when it's not doing anything, thus saving battery life.
Of course, I am a pleb when it comes to this kind of stuff, so i may be way off base.

and ATM, there is no way I'm going back through the agony of the root unless I absolutely have to. i will do my best answer any questions, though.
frankly, the xda step by step and the video tutorial were more than adaquate to get it rooted. my only issues came when i tried to start flashing roms and kernels without any real step by step on that kind of stuff. i'll send you what i sent john32f on that stuff if/when you get yours rooted.
PS, with all the BS involved with load times and reading (re-reading, re-re-reading) the instructions, it took me about 2-3 hours to get it straight.

Stick to the written instructions, unless you need some additional help. It's better than the video.

For some reason, my phone keeps on disconnecting and connecting continuously to Wi-Fi.

The momemnt I plug my phone in to charge (into and style USB), it wakes up and never goes back to sleep. Even after a full charge and removed from USB.
So this is leaving me to factory reset EVERY time I unplug the phone. No bueno!
Y'all think this is a hardware failure somewhere in the USB to battery to Android line? Or is this a wonky bit or byte in Android 2.2 that is f'ing with my phone?

If you aren't rooted why not take your phone to Sprint and let them deal with it? Sounds like a PITA.
I think that is what I am going to do. The replacement threads for the EVO are crazy. Refurbs worse than the originals. But now that the EVO is back in stock, maybe I would get a true new EVO.

So I go to the sprint store. And now I know that I could start as a senior tech, they are dumb. Told them about my awake time so they turn on the screen and watches it timeout and go dark...he says "It's sleeping just fine"
then the senior tech goes and tells me that 4 hrs of STANDBY (totally untouched) is good for the EVO and his is about that time. So I grab his EVO, go into battery stats and show him us Up vs. awake time. He was like, "oh...never seen that."
So now I have to call national CS and deal with that. But i might as well try rooting first. Have no problem with all the steps but something ADB shell scares me!

even if you don't root fully, the method for 2.2 actually downgrades you to 2.1, at which point you do the "one click" unrevoked3 root (or at least I did).
You might try it to downgrade to 2.1 so you can see if you have gotten rid of a wonky 2.2 file.

Still can't figure out why my WiFi signal keeps on dropping.
And battery life hasn't improved that much. Took it off the charger at 9am and it's at 59% battery life now.

reboot both phone and router?
if that doesnt work, try a different kernel. it can affect things like that. or do a nand restore to one you know was working

wasn't CM6 having all kinds of wifi issues? are you using that or are you using the Fresh rom?
I'm on Fresh.
Thing is, it was working fine yesterday so hopefully it's an issue with my wireless router.

OK, so I went and rooted to the latest Fresh and King Kernel 8 last night. So far no major battery changes noted (although I was getting decent battery life before). What do I need to do to adjust the settings in the kernel? Over/underclocking, etc.

Are any of you experiencing the "b-spot" on your Evos?
It is a white spot (near the b key on the touch keyboard) about the size of a pencil eraser. You can only really see it when your screen is white. It is pretty annoying, but if it's not going to get any bigger, I suppose I can live with it.

So I see SetCPU in the market for $2, but is it supposed to be included when I update to Fresh? If so it wasn't, there's nothing called that in my drawer. $2 is no big price to pay, but I want to make sure I don't already have it first.

The widget I use for time/weather is the "Beautiful Weather Home" widget from Beautiful Widgets in the marketplace. Both are skinned in "Dharma" which you download from within the customization settings screen when you install place the widget on your home screen.

ROOTED my EVO! Instructions were a snap. Once I got into it, all my skillz from the Hero days came back to me!

ive heard nothing but wonderful things from dozens of people about fresh 3.2. the exception was one guy who said he didnt see a difference in battery life, but thats an outlier.
im waiting for the public release to do that, myself. my slingbox comes in tomorrow so i am ramping up to get that all working
