I also think the cowboy offense doesn't seem to turn it on until they are behind and that puts pressure on the defense.

I don't mean to nitpick your post because I get what you are saying... but just to argue this point in particular.

Dak and Co. went right down the field last night and went up 7-0 in a flash. Then the flipping defense decided to let Tamp crab walk down the field 4 yards at a time. The offense literally just had to sit there and watch for at least 30 minutes.

Offense isn't without fault, but this teams woes are 100% all defense. In most games they create 0 turnovers. Extremely rare that we force a team to punt deep in their own territory. 90% of our offensive drives are starting between the 10-30 yard line.

I agree. Tampa's first drive completely sucked the life out of the game. Neither side of the ball really recovered from that.

I don't fault the defense too much for the first drive because one, it only happened because of a couple ridiculous penalties and two, it's hard to stop a NFL team committed and willing to gain 3 yards per play all the way down the field. Especially on a scripted opening drive.

The third quarter is where the true fault lies. I think if they get a stop on that opening possession and the offense gets the ball back with a chance to go up 10 the game is completely different. Our offensive halftime adjustments have been on point. But that drive just seemed to take the life out of the team and stadium. I was at the game last night and everyone was still expecting a blowout and was engaged until that TD drive.

seriously nothing worse than when bad Aggie and Cowboys football seasons collide

And it's actually been pretty rare, since the mid-80s at least one of the two have had a good year/been in contention for something meaningful almost every season. By far the worst stretch was 2000-2003 or so, when A&M was a 4-7 win team every year and Dallas was going 5-11 every year. I was in middle/High school and those were dark days. But outside of that it's just been an isolated year here or there when both were having bad years.

The math behind going for 2 when down 8, for those who were discussing in the game thread.

It's the classic "math vs feels/momentum" debate. The problem is that every time the data is looked at situationally and adjusted for things like relative offensive/defensive quality, the math still wins. The "yeah I know the numbers but in THIS situation it doesn't apply" argument continues to prove largely incorrect. Punting on 4th and 1 from the opponent's 45 yard line is ALWAYS the wrong decision outside of very specific end of game scenarios. It doesn't matter if you're an FCS team playing Georgia.

Ultimately you have a subset of fans and coaches who just refuse to admit that what they've always intuitively felt about certain aspects of the game is wrong.

Rumors swirling that Schotty is considering making some staff changes…

Hope CP still has his realtor…

No chance he gets fired mid season. Jerry is loyal to a fault and wont let that happen. As bad as they are, they desperately need some continuity. 4 DCs in 4 years makes it virtually impossible to sustain success

Also for those who said Bowles made the wrong decision to not kick a FG from the 1 to go up 17.

The coaching wasn't near as bad as many believe it to be.

yeah, except you're playing at home and if you go for 2 and don't get it, you throw away all the momentum you just built up. If analytics were gospel, moneyball would win every year. Turns out it doesn't. It's why we can't replace coaches and a lot of jobs with soulless robotic AI.

dude, no. just no. show me a coach who blindly applies analytics and no "feel" for the game and players, etc. winning ships. we'll wait.

I don't disagree that going for 2 in that situation is probably advantageous most of the time, but last night was not that time. you had a cowboys team that played like absolute **** all night and you needed to extend that game because we were getting better as the game went on, not worse. Mentally and emotionally, missing that 2 did a number on that team. You could see it. It was evident. Getting the easy 1 and walking away from that drive with a "victory" would have been wholly different.
Vessel

But moneyball did win. Everybody is doing it. But the original point of it was to try to gain an advantage because they didn't have the best players. But now even teams with the best players are doing "moneyball." Also don't look at who will be representing the AL in the World Series and what they are doing.

I watched a podcast today that broke down a few running plays by the bucs showing the Cowboy defense in action. It was comical how inept the Cowboy defense played. The scheme on these plays was sound. The clips showed players tripping their own teammates out of position, bland literally whiffing on a tackle so bad he knocked his own guy making the tackle out of position giving up 5 more yards and a 1st down. Terrible angles of attack. On and on.

It was worse seeing it broken down screen by screen shot. I can't argue with you. There are several cowboy d players that need to be gone. They lack skill and effort. Not a good combo. It's amazing how bad Bland has gotten since his break out season. He's a huge liability now.

This should never happen at home.

Only 2-3 defensive guys played hard imo. Rest just poor effort

The Seahawks were on a slow decline before switching coaches and it made all the difference. The cowboys have missed terribly on coaching hires. Give this team another Jimmy Johnson and watch it take off.

You act like there's another Jimmy Johnson out there…….

Still wish they would've cut turpin and schoon. Also play trigg more
Vessel
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Turpin hasn't been a difference maker on special teams in nearly 2 years and he's not a better WR than Camden Brown.

That's the easiest decision of all and it was apparent to most of us coming out of camp.

This is my biggest issue right. They play like they know they suck ass, so they aren't playing hard.

Jerry and the jones family are so terrible that they even fall in love with role players now. I mean…,.. I don't give a crap that Turpin went to TCU. He has a tendency to fumble at the WORST times.

Brown balled out in the preseason and wouldn't be ****ting the bed like turpin does.
