1) If you are speaking in terms of gross, tax revenues increased under every administration over the past 50 years, simply on the basis of population/economic growth, so this is not a very meaningful statement.

2) Tax revenue actually declined from 1982 to 1983; since 1980, this only happened from 2001-3 (Bush tax cuts), 2008-9 (financial crisis); and 2019-2020 (COVID obviously).

3) The more relevant measure (tax revenue as a percentage of GDP) declined substantially under Reagan. The 1981 value (18.69%) would not be reached again until 1998.

It is simply a fiction that the Reagan tax cuts increased the revenue flowing to the government more than would have occurred by leaving the tax rates alone, and the supply-siders didn't think that would be the case, either. Their prediction was that the loss of revenue wouldn't be as bad as predicted by liberal economists, due to tax cuts stimulating economic growth.

In re: Reagan, I think you could argue that they were right. The Bush 43 tax cuts were much less justifiable without spending restraint.

They would prefer a pro-Trump senator to one from a rival faction of their own party. That's a strong accusation, but it's pretty in line with their recent behavior. These politicians have two months to prove me wrong. I hope they do.

You know the answer, but TDS boners are fully engorged at the moment thinking a D senate is likely and a +10 house majority is all but assured.

Reality…? It's becoming an almost certainty the senate will remain red and Rs could un up the score to +5 to +7 in the Senate… including replacing 3 RINOs. Thune's jaw is going to to need surgery if he hopes continue as senate leader.

House is harder to predict but I think ultimately Rs hold. If anything resolves in the Iran or in the Ukraine in next 30 days, Rs keep house and likely stack a comfortable majority.

The Dems are scattered, disorganized and with a ton of troublesome candidates and near zero voter enthusiasm. Despite massive push by MSM and the socials to make it seem the other way.

f16 has a lot more low information voters who still watch CNN, get their political analysis from the NYT, and their posts from BlueSky.

This is one that gets less play than other factors but (big but as always) the opinion polls are showing a pretty big spike in anger at government corruption.

Gallup had this poll the other day. It show a record 10% spike in the view that the federal government is corrupt since Trump took office and it is almost entirely based on dems and independents.

Not good for the GOP in this case.
