Not all of the news media missed DePape’s history of drug use, psychosis, and homelessness. CNN reported that a woman named Laura Hayes, who said she worked with DePape 10 years ago making hemp bracelets, said he had been living in a storage shed.

But much of the rest of the news media were swept up in the narrative that DePape was more like John Wilkes Booth, the fanatical but sane assassin of Abraham Lincoln, than John Hinkley, Jr., the mentally ill man who shot Ronald Reagan.

I think we're missing another motive in this apparent break-in. This guy might have been jonesing for some of that super expensive ice cream Nancy keeps in her Viking freezer.

My firm served a lawsuit against Paul Pelosi one time in SF after attempting to serve at other residences—Napa, Georgetown. They weren’t home, but staff were, & multiple law enforcement officers were on the perimeter. Break-in is odd given this level of security.

We have been to many social events in the immediate vicinity as well. There are security cameras everywhere, and many homes have private security. Whatever happened, law enforcement should have plenty of evidence to get to the bottom of it and find the attacker(s).

Yeah the drifter breaking in with a hammer, in his underwear no less, and is able to be in the same room with Paul Pelosi and attack him with police present? That strains credulity. I can't imagine they don't have around the clock security on the premises and based on the tweet above it sounds like they do.

Now did they just decide to give all their security the night off because they're just that altruistic? That's a stretch.

Someone needs to start pulling surveillance video and making copies pronto. TMZ alone would pay very good money.

It will be interesting to see if they can stick to the drifter break-in story.

Unless he knew the attacker and didn't want whatever reason he was there known (and I won't leap to the homosexual angle either). The attacker was a known drug user and potentially a dealer. We know Paul had a DUI recently which suggests a substance abuse problem. I've just made a potential link between the two.

The public needs more information, and this event can't be allowed to be swept under the rug in the way Paul Pelosi's DUI arrest was.

We need to actually see DePape's "right-wing" social media posts that were allegedly deleted before the incident was even announced. Because right now, we have what we can actually see telling one story and what the authorities claim but won't show us telling another story. Perhaps it all connects perfectly (or he's just a clinically insane person), but the burden of proof is not on the public. It's on the Capitol Police and the FBI to give us all the facts so that the assailant and the situation begin to make some semblance of sense. Until that happens, suspicions are going to continue.
