I think it's safe to assume in some instances if someone makes X their motive behind it might be X. Yes, that is still an assumption, but a logical one. You were saying that they are expressing X as satire, but they don't actually think or feel that, it's all for clicks. Like, how tf do you know that?
Some of yall are just coping because a ton of people on YT and on here arent digging the show and are making fun of certain aspects of its production.

Partly because there's a posting history of guys like Star Wars Theory, where their videos/demeanor used to be one thing, for all fans, whereas now it's almost exclusively rage bait, which we all know is what brings in the big clicks. We've seen a change in some of these YouTubers to more aggrieved, conspiratorial, InfoWars-like content, that feels so overly performative as to almost certainly be disingenuous. I'm not saying Star Wars Theory isn't genuinely upset at some of this crap (which is a whole other sad discussion, re: grown ass men throwing temper tantrums on the internet), but it's so obvious he's found a more profitable lane that he's now directly pandering too.
I haven't seen a ton of what's he's made, but seen him praise stuff he liked. It really isn't that unusual to find a 30-50 year old American dude who doesn't like most of what Disney has done with SW. That's like 90% of us. And what's your deal with "grown man" this and that? As if you're not a grown man who at times also complains and vents about stuff you don't like? Who cares? Just let people have their opinions.
There's not liking what Disney has done with Star Wars, and venting about it on a message board... and then there's what people like Star Wars Theory do, which, I'm sorry, I simply find so petulant, performative, and over-the-top ridiculous at times that it makes my skin crawl.

Yep, Star Wars Theory is *just like* Colbert or Trevor Noah. And the only reason I don't like the former is because I disagree with him (never mind the fact I'm not even big Colbert or Noah fans). It doesn't have anything at all to do with the insanely vast talent chasm between them, the over-the-top petulance I mentioned, or the fact that the latter delve into things that actual matter, like our country, where as Star Wars Theory is throwing temper tantrums over a 40-year-old kids franchise that no longer directly caters 100% to him anymore.

Exactly. TC is doing his part time job on the ET for free and thinks that makes him superior to someone with millions of followers and a paycheck.
I'm at least being my genuine self/not posting for "stars." Nor am I pathetically attempting to organize thousands of fans to participate in a "Star Wars Funeral" day, or endlessly ranting about insane conspiracy theories, or verbally attacking women, etc. Which is what a number of these losers are doing. But if that's who you're going to bat for, by all means, keep at it.
Whatever, they spend their 6 hours a day making videos people engage with and that pays their bills, not trying to one up people on a website. I dislike or am ambivalent toward probably 75% of YT content creators, but I'm not going to clown on them for what they do, if they've got a massive audience and make some money, that's cool for them.

This is the last I'll say on the subject... but so much of what some (not all, not by a long shot) of these guys put into the world is copious amounts of negativity and toxicity. They might very well have valid complaints - and hell, even I agree with a number of their complaints - rather, it's the way in which they express their complaints that only emboldens/influences a certain sect of the fandom to spew even worse ****, threaten filmmakers, editors, women, etc on social media, and on and on it goes. There's a certain petulance, entitled-ness, and unhinged-ness to a lot of their videos that only serves to enflame the discourse. It's not just a bunch of innocuous, hard-working dudes trying to pay their bills. Some of them are absolutely poisoning the well, so to speak, actively making fandom worse, more toxic, and trying to establish ownership in way where this stuff can only be for them, them alone, and what they think the franchise should be.
Since the UFO thread, we have been allies. I've posted my thoughts regarding Representation in the designated Social Justice thread, although I was tempted to reproduce it here.
Posters and lurkers, please review and Star if you find value.
The bottom line, as Staff and Moderator have asked, is for us to have respectful dialogue centered in the actual content of the show. Social-political concerns should not divide us as board contributors.
I greatly appreciate The Acolyte's BIPOC Representation, and remain curious at the motivations behind the criticism. But please let the season play out, and perhaps we can reassess.

I just caught up on this show, watching it with my 11 year old kid. My thought is that it is fine. Just fine. It's something to casually watch.
Like a lot of kids I grew up watching the original trilogy. I can't say I've loved any other Star Wars content in the same way since, and in retrospect a lot of it is not that good. Maybe it is just my expectations but I think some of the hate for this show is overblown. Should it be better? Yeah that would be nice, but it has still been entertaining enough to finish as a weeknight summer watch.

Caught up on the last two. Still have concerns about pacing. The twin reveal was revealed in episode one. The entire past mystery was revealed in episode 3. 3 out of the 4 Jedi are dead by episode 4. The secret Sith is painfully obvious by episode 4. What is there left to show us?

Can't believe they wasted a Wookie Jedi by killing them off screen. For a show that started with some cool and different flight scenes, there has been nothing since.

You do realize that literally no one in this thread is saying this show is great?
There's a huge difference between "not liking the Acolyte" and posting literally 85+ times over the course of the past two episodes about how much you dislike the Acolyte. The former is a rational opinion no one here has a problem with, while the latter is relentless, obsessive, suffocating behavior, and a massive beating on the thread...

I don't care if you like it or not. It's the constant need to post your opinions about how terrible everything star wars is that bothers me. It defies what I specifically asked the thread to be about on the first post and again and again. So if we are such pals, maybe you could respect the purpose of the thread and let us talk about th3 actual show instead of how terrible you think it is. A little respect for people who want to discuss plot and motivation without wading through your 15 negative posts per page would be great. I know this is a pointless message to write and you're going to fire back about your rights and how it's a terrible show and all the rest. But have you ever thought - wow, my posts are making people absolutely miserable - and realized that's not a good thing?

No, I actually agree. I don't want to discuss anything outside of Acolyte and its production. A chunk of my replies are because FL and TC can't tolerate to see videos criticizing or memeing this show. I've even avoided posting any of them which are simply taking shots at the politics behind the show, because I know that isn't what we want to discuss here. I'll try not to get dragged into debates with those dudes from here on out.
