Was hoping we'd at least get Rhaena claiming the dragon. Talk about blue balls.

After all the damn dreaming by Daemon we had to endure, they could have AT LEAST given us the wild dragon taking Rhaena.

Corlys got TOLD.

Creepy unisex Lohar.

Has Jace gotten laid? His wife is his cousin, but I feel he should be. He's wound too tight.

Ulf is going to get someone else besides himself killed.

I was almost sure Aemond was gonna throw Haleana off the balcony.

Did Daemon bang the witch?

In the post show feature the writers tried to sell that Diamonds story and visions in Harrenhall all set up him to believe himself to not be a main player with the last vision of White Walkers. Anyone agree with them? I thought most of his story this season was a waste of time.

An entire season of dreams. We got Pam/Dallas'ed on that one. Gen Xers that watched night soaps will get that reference.

And how about the weird deer person Daemon saw in the Godswood. I have no idea what the hell they were doing there, since it didn't make any difference in him seeing that vision.

I took it as foreshadowing of the deer sigil (Baratheon) ending the Targs rule.

I get irrationally angry anytime the Song of Ice and Fire prophecy is discussed or hinted at in the show. It cheapens how big of a deal they make it when we know how terribly it ends in GOT season 8.

True. But the books won't end that way...if that lazy bass turd doesn't die first before writing them.

That would have made sense to me if it was part of the vision. Plus it looked like a child

In your first sentence you literally describe a fully realized character arc, then in the next sentence say his story was a "waste of time." I agree that he/we spent WAY too much time at Harrenhal this season, but it served a distinct purpose and he was objectively changed by it in the end. He needed to go from prideful, wanna-be king to setting aside his ego for the betterment of the realm, and there was no way he could have done that in just an episode or two. Should it have taken eight episodes? No. But it wasn't by any means a bad arc by, to the point where I was legit moved by his pledge in the end.

Honestly, I really dug The Empire Strikes Back vibe of the finale. Yes, I agree that there were far too many "we must avoid war" talks/squabbles over the course of the season, that the pacing of the season was off as a whole, and that we should have had at least one other action-packed episode.

That said, IMO, if tonight would have been, say, episode four of a ten episodes season... all out war would have felt too soon? The happy medium probably would have been to do these eight episodes in seven, have the finale be the first blows of the war, and then have the season end on a war-related cliffhanger instead of an about-to-go-to-war-related cliffhanger.

If anything, what I'm most annoyed by is the two-year gap until season three, and two-year gaps between eight-episode seasons in general. This trend HAS to stop. I've been seeing so many people fed up with it in general, and hopefully the studios/streamers are getting the message.

That was a little Easter egg thrown in for game of thrones book readers. It would take too long to explain it here but it isn't a spoiler as even when it is mentioned in the books in passing, no one knows for sure what it means. Suffice it to say, there is an island in the middle of that lake near Harrenhal that no one knows for sure what is going on over there.

Wondering what all the spoilers were that everyone was worried about. Filler finale for a mostly filler season.

I agree. But wandering around Harrenhall having weird pointless visions for ~10 minutes per 6 episodes. Then having two helpful visions, one with his brother and the final one barely just counts as a character arc.
I could have done without the visions. I think there might have been enough character arc material with him struggling and failing to unite the river men and realizing he'd rather be a bad ass on a dragon than a king.

I guess I don't get all the teeth gnashing over this season. I thought it was solid and don't agree that we needed this action packed episode to feel like it accomplished something.

I hesitate to even mention this bc I know how TA treats book readers on show threads, but without spoilers, I truly don't know how they could have done this season to yalls satisfaction without completely changing the book material, short changing character development, and have it feel like a complete seasons narrative.

The reason the last couple seasons of GOT sucked so hard was they focused more on the spectacle of dragons/white walkers/battles, and focused less on what made the show great, which was the "quiet scenes" with the small council, or 1:1 convos filled with subtext and the threat of violence. Honestly, the people *****ing about this season feel like the same people that *****ed on TLOS thread calling the show boring bc they "wanted to see a show about zombies and guns".

One thing that cracked me up was the mud wrestling. The preview last week showed a quick snippet of that and I had no idea what it was. I was like is that another battle where that crab guy was killed. Nope, Lannister mud wrestling with a chic.

I think somewhere in here would have been a good answer. If there were 10x more content on the Brakens and Blackwoods - showing what was happening there and developing those minor characters. Flipping that with 10x less of Daemon and his hallucinations. That might have been a good showing.

It took me browsing online to randomly find out the guy that Daemon executed was the same kid who killed the guy that insulted him when trying to get Rhaenyra's. Hell - I ended up on some GoT wiki just to get the spelling and there is ton's of story they swept passed in order to focus on Daemon. Granted it's action, so it's more expensive.

I love the dragons and the CGI, but if they don't advance the story and are really just to put on a show...

If the season had been 10 episodes like typical GOT, I'm sure more would be happy. Heck, it's set up for a lot to take place in the next episode, which would have been the 9th episode, similar to when GOT threw down a big one typically.

Also with the two year delay.

I guess dragon CGI takes time.

My take on it is that he could have had it all happen in probably 3, maybe 4 episodes, but they wanted to lineup the end of it up with the rest of the storyline and they also paid a lot of money for him and wanted him in every episode.

I enjoyed the season, but there are only so many episodes in a row viewers will want to watch characters argue about when to attack, if they should even attack, and hem and haw over the cruel world. The feeling of suspense as everything builds to the breaking point is great, but there could have been more balance, imo.

I get it. Two more episodes for a full 10 might have helped, but again, since I'm aided by reading the source material (not saying they couldnt make changes bc the writers have shown a willingness to do so) , I just don't know how they would have done it appropriately and still stayed true to it

Season 2 was such a snoozefest. Daemon stuck at the run down castle having visions the whole season, what a waste of a great character. I could tolerate this season knowing that the build up was for an amazing battle in the finale, but nope, didn't get that either. This show is no where near Game of Thrones.

I think we have had one more big epic battle than Game of Thrones had at this point (end of season 2) in both series.

even blackwater wasn't that big of an ordeal besides the shot to the ship with the wildfyre.

Every forgets we didn't really get a "big battle" until... watchers on the wall maybe? Season 4 or 5?

Yeah the only reason the Daemon arc sucked is because he's one of the like four interesting characters on this show. If this were GOT where there were like 7 interesting storylines then it would have been fine. Not all that different from that whole time Arya was with the Faceless Men or several other side storylines on GOT.

But most of the characters on this show are flat and boring so benching one of the only good ones for a whole season was a tough grind.

Literally found myself saying outloud during Rhaena's walk through the countryside "oh my god just find the dragon already."
