The show has been hinting at Sea Smoke taking a rider after being abandoned, even though it goes against the dragon lore/rules.

I guess dragons can be fooled by fake deaths too.

Great point. Now that I think about it, that's got to be where the ******* storyline is going.

He's half the same genetic material as Laenor Velaryon, so even if he's not a Targaryen, maybe he's similar enough that Sea Smoke would accept him.

Blacks got incredibly lucky. Getting Aegon was dumb luck in having him show up at all, much less drunk, and with his brother either willfully for "accidentally" burning him to hell.
Losing Aegon could be just as much a good thing for team green. Lose an incompetent ruler and gain a martyr all in one.
Previews for next week hint at him being alive still, which is annoying given he got torched, fell out of the sky, and had the dragon partially land on him.

Yup. This show does a good job of offing favorites and surviving the hated ones.

"luigi's mansion" got me.

Also, if I'm being completely honestly, I'm not 100% sure why he's there - or, rather, what he's still doing there...

So based on GoT/Danerys, I thought Targaryen's couldn't be burned by fire. Or does that only apply to full blood ones (as Aegon is half Hightower)? I'm guessing his injuries are just from the fall and not being burnt.
PDWT_12

That was never really supposed to be true. Dany survives the initial burning with her dragon eggs through a specific instance of magic, not because of her bloodline. I know she also survives burning all those Dothrakis up, but that's purely a D&D creation.

No reason to assume Targ immunity to burning.

I recall there being this same question when Laena committed suicide by fire in season 1. Can't recall the conclusion. Maybe dragon fire is hotter?

Interesting. Didn't she make a comment when Khal Drogo pours the liquid gold on her brother that "he wasn't a true Targaryen because Targaryen's can't be hurt by fire"? Or am I misremembering that quote?

No she definitely says that. You're correct that they try to portray it that way in the show.

It's just not accurate. It's more like an "ego" thing. Or like familial pride.

Ok thanks. Never read the books so wasn't sure how it was portrayed. Makes sense.

Setting aside the flaming dragon side of it, dude fell hundred of feet from the sky and had his dragon land on him and we are supposed to think he'd survive.

We don't actually know what kind of shape Aegon is in. All we saw in the previews was a crate being carried by the Kingsguard and Alicent asking "Is he alive?"

Yeah interpreted her comment more as "Viserys was not a "true" Targ in that he was a little ***** instead."

Can someone help with the timeline? In this episode Alicent made a comment that in a matter of a few weeks she lost her husband and grand child.

I know in GoT there were many storyline happening at the same time. However in HoD it felt more linear and I was expecting the time between those two events to be much greater.

Even if Aegon is gone, will they tell anyone? She told Aegon he needed to do "nothing" anyway, so him being dead wouldn't really change much. As long as they can keep it under wraps.

it has just been a few weeks/months. all events have been in 129 (Vis death to present).

i would pace it more like 3-4 months, but whatevs

Speaking of pacing, I'm glad they had a delay for Rhaenyra to show up in Dragonstone. No teleporting Greyjoys here lol

The interesting thing to me both seasons they have made such a big deal about ice and fire. And making sure that's known. But clearly between now and GOT that was lost.

The quote is, "He was no dragon. Fire can not kill a dragon.". The fire they were breathing at each other should have had no effect. However, getting your neck chomped and falling a thousand feet should kill you.

As soon as she saw Aegon fall, she should have high tailed it for Dragonstone, knowing that meant Kings Landing was undefended. Gather the other dragons and burn the Red Keep. I would have liked the death better if she had done that and Aemond caught up to her.

Also, if Aegon is alive, then he should have both Cole and his brother beheaded. The plan was good, except that they didn't tell the King.

In the GOT books they make a big deal about the Prince that was Promised, and Aegon's dream. However, they didn't in the originally GOT show. They do mention it, but they didn't seem to delve deep into prophecies. I wonder if there are a lot of people who just watch the show and don't realize that Jon Snow is (likely) the Prince that was Promised and not a character in this series.

This is the part of the botched ending that really ticks me off. The entire series is supposed to be about the threat of the walkers and the dragons are supposed to be a counter to them (Ice & Fire). But instead they have Arya pop in and one shot the night king. So dumb.

Looks like they are making it ambiguous on if Aegon survived. Wonder they would explain how Rhaenys didnt make it but Sunfyre fell and crashed in a ball of flames just like Meleys yet Aegon possibly survived?

I'm pretty sure Aemond set Aegon up there. I think he knew Aegon would come. that's why he waited when he first heard the call to come to their rescue (which was the plan). They wanted to lure Rhaenys out with her dragon which they did and then kill her and the dragon, and were willing to sacrifice the army hence the day raid. But Aemond did not come when called. The only logical reason is he knew Aegon was coming.

And we clearly see Aemond intentionally blast Aegon with fire. We later see Aemond showing no remorse at his (preaumably) dead brother.

I did no yet read back through and just watched this so not sure if that's been discussed. I just saw this post near the bottom of the thread.

Cole was played for a fool by Aemond imo.

Literally this war could be over in a few hours, I guess kill aemond somehow not on a dragon?

Season 1 Daemon sought out Vermithor, correct?

Also, who's protecting Kings Landing while this is going on?
He did, there was that scene where he was singing in High Valyrian and Vermitho appears out of the shadow and just breathes fire for 10+ seconds. Then slowly approaches him and stares at Daemon for a while.
Surely that comes back into play in some way.

No doubt.

The last lines of the song he sang in closed caption translation were

We shall fly as we were destined
Beautifully, freely

I think it's implied that Aemon did seize the opportunity to burn Aegon, even seemed like he was going to finish him off before Cole walked up on them in the woods.

But I DO NOT think Aemond intended Aegon to go to the battle.
