I would guess the average viewer knows the whole reason for this war is because Alicent misunderstood which Aegon that Viserys was talking about. They kept going back to his scene with Rhaenyra about Aegon's visions and then Alicent with him as he died in "previously on's" over snd over to hammer it home late last season and to start this one. I havent read any of this stuff

You mean 13 episodes and two years ago? Yeah, there's no way I - and many others - are remembering the details from that.

Or, maybe, if they did, I just thought they were talking about the Aegon in the present?

Did anyone else think the dagger Aegon was spinning at the small council meeting was the same one that Joffrey gives to the cut throat to try to kill Bran in Season 1 of GOT?

Great to see that we were somehow able to find yet some more incredibly rare Valyrian steel laying around.
I thought it Ep 1 or 2, don't remember which, when he's walking around and it's sheathed in his belt. Can only see the handle, but it looks the same, to me.

I feel like it has shown up a couple of times. I think Alicent used it to cut Rheanyrs last season. Or maybe that's just a common style for daggers back then.

To be fair, there's a pretty telling moment in Episode 9 of Season 1 where it dawns on Alicent that Otto was planning to coup the throne for Aegon even if Viserys hadn't "changed his mind."

I know the basic gist. I of course remember the story, the warning, the misunderstanding, etc. I just had no clue that someone named "Aegon the Conqueror" was the one who initially kicked all of that off, and that that character was different from the Aegon in the present.

It also could have been given to Aegon by Thanos when he conquered Westeros.

It's not even so much about the story of Ice and Fire and all that...that's just an extra detail

It's that Aegon is the 1st Targaryen in the line that conquered the whole continent. Thus his title

Are you aware that Aegon the Conqueror also did not want to keep all the dalmatian puppies as pets?

Finally watched tonight's episode, and the scene between Alicent and Rhaenyra (along with the brief sequence leading up to it) was one of the best of the entire series, if not the best. Man, that was good. Combined with the preview for next week, it feels like this show is really coming into its own. So stoked for next week.

Oh, and Aegon humiliating Aemond in the brothel was rough. Aemond will not forget that.

A little early in the season to be calling that shot.

Good observation. Aemond can't strike back at Aegon directly, but he could target one of his toadies.

TC, how many years of Game of Thrones did you watch? And now 1 season+ of this show? Aegon the Conqueror is like the Alexander the Great of Westeros. Everyone knows who he is.

The acting on this show is exquisite. The lord of Harrenhal was great, Larys is great, even Aegon is pretty good. Rhaenyra crushed that scene in the sept, and Alicent's wtf look at her was hilarious.

For a second I thought Rhaenyra was sending her kids off with the eggs that Daenerys will later come to possess, but there were 4 of them. Maybe 3 of them are the same.

Interesting scene with Daemon and the Godswood tree

I know the Brackens and Blackwells or whatever aren't that important, but showing us at least a little scuffle would have been nice. Instead we got prosthetic head and naked Aemond.
This same guy is one of my favorite characters in Penny Dreadful. I hope he is in more of this season.

You're all correct. Viserys talks about the dagger when he tells Rhaenyra about the Song of Ice and Fire. That dagger is what the catspaw uses in GoT season 1 to try to kill Bran, and (this shouldn't be needed, but...) it's what Arya uses to kill the Night King.

Is it, though? I feel like that's been the feeling after every episode recently. I understand trying to add build up, but I feel like they are well past the point of war. I mean, if the killing of a baby didn't do it, I'm not sure why we should think the conversation in the Sept really changes that.

The next episode is titled "A Dance of Dragons", actual fighting has to happen with that title unless they are going to Stomp the Yard
