So just because they said it they were going to do it? It was a bluff. The same bluff we see in every movie. They had their marching orders to kill the boy. They weren't going to just kill her and the girl if she didn't point them out.

I don't know what's more ridiculous, you being sure that it was a bluff based on absolutely nothing, or expecting anyone in her position to believe that and put both her children's lives at risk.

Has anyone ever bluffed when threatening murder in the GOT universe?

Technically? Arya refused to kill The Hound.

Good call.

Ygritte promised to kill Jon if he betrayed them, but also seemed like she was going to refuse to kill Jon in the siege of Castle Black, or hesitated long enough for Olly to shoot her.

In both situations there are really complicated personal relationships between the two people. The Hound is Arya's selfish protector, but they have something of a bond. Ygritte and Jon were star-crossed lovers.

Oh, and Cersei did it to prove a point with Littlefinger in S2? Might be the only example of a true bluff and not a lover/friend changing their mind.

Ser Davos also said he'd kill Melisandre if he ever saw her again, but I give that one a pass since it was right before a major battle and she said she's be dead before dawn.

Lol I'm just stirring the pot because I got nothing better to do.

Yeah she probably didn't have any other option. She probably would have been killed. It would have made for an even better episode if they had.

The dog still got a raw deal.

Carry on.

I don't dislike this show...it's just that none of the characters are super interesting. All the Targ kids kinda look the same. It just seems kinda boring.

I mean, there's a very good reason for that...

I'm in the same boat. I don't have any characters I really care that much about

They need to spend more time with Aemond. He talks a big game, but we also see him showing possibly planning things.

My new theory is that Criston is going to start hooking up with Aemond. They've already shown them to be friends. At some point, they will have too much wine while going through battle plans, and end up hooking up. Hijinks will then ensue as Criston must hide his affair with the Queen from Aemond, and his affair with Aemond from the Queen, and his affair with both from the King.

So, how many times during an episode do the rest of you pause to take a few minutes trying to untangle the Targaryen web of who is related to whom and by way of which branch of the incest tree?

My wife treats me like her personal ASOIAF encyclopedia whenever we watch GoT related stuff. Eleven pauses yesterday.

The longest pause was during Rhaenys/Corlys conversation to discuss how Rhaenys is related to the other Targaryens - which, to be fair, isn't immediately obvious if you've forgotten the Great Council/Viserys plot point from the opening sequence of S1.
My wife did that during the original GoT until she realized I was making stuff up and then pretending that the show was deviating from the book.

Like when I told her the dragons could talk
and that there was an underwater dragon kingdom

To be fair, talking dragons are a thing in Tolkien. Not that crazy to believe it.

It was worth it right up until the time when she mentioned one of them - that Ramsey Bolton was going to fall in love with Sansa and change his ways to help take back the North - to a coworker and got laughed at, and then looked at Wikipedia

Wait. Ramsey wasn't in love with Sansa? But he was so kind to her. Next thing you're going to tell me is Theon didn't have a deep brotherly bond with him either.

Finally watched Episode 2 last night. Thought the Arryk/Eryk part was really well done and pretty heartbreaking.

That said, my wife and I both sort of spaced out in the middle part, especially when black guy who saved Corlys(sp) life is talking to black guy who may or may not have goat soup waiting at home.

I think I've identified the disconnect for me thus far.

1) Not enough characters I care about. I think Rhaenyra and Rhaenys are the only two.

2) GoT was such a multi-sided, multiple motivations show. There were so many plots within plots, and so many times when the character driving the plot seemed to change hand - Tyrion Tywin, Cersei, Littlefinger, Dany, Varys, Roose & Ramsey, Stannis, Renly, Robb, etc.

3) The humor, or lack there of: Game of Thrones was funny. This is dreary. It's largely about really awful people who happen to command the most fearsome weapons in the world.

Not trying to convince anyone or argue the point. Just a compilation of feelings. Still going to watch and discuss spoiler free.

Your third point has never occurred to me until now, but you're absolutely right. I'm into this show but it desperately needs a Tyrion Lannister.

It's not as funny as GoT since we don't have guys like Tyrion, Brian, the Hound, etc. Aegon had his moments in episode 2 though. There are also moments with Daemon, like when they're all debriefing about the child murder, and he just sits there quietly.

I made that same realization last week & posted on another thread
It's way too serious ALL THE TIME. When emotions run in the red 100% of the time it's hard to know what's really important. Life isn't like that all the time. Dudes laughed in the face of death in the trenches of WW1.
