I feel like Criston is close to entering Top 5 villains for GoT and HotD. Joffrey/Ramsey/Cersei are pretty solidified but theres a case he could get up to 5-6 after this season
Interesting thought, because so far I think it's hard to really say who is a villain. They are all kind of bad, yet sympathetic. The gimpy guy is for sure a villain, and Daemon is definitely not a good dude. Otto lives in the morally gray, and Criston is a major league d bag.johncAG said:

Joffrey, Ramsey, and Cersei are all evil, and yet I love them as characters. Sometimes, it's fun when they win. Criston isn't really evil. He's just a little *****. Maybe closer to Viserys. Someone you just want to punch in the face.

The only one I feel bad for so far is the ratcatchers dog. Guy was just loyal and happy and then gets kicked and has his master killed.
Haelena? She's pretty much an innocent, and even Rhaenyra admitted as much. And yet she's suffered the most.
No she chose her side, didn't try to stop the attack, gave up her son, and then ran away without calling for help.
The mothers I know would lay down their lives for their child.

Any insights into why Haelena pointed to her son instead of her daughter? Fear for her life, not realizing she had a choice, loves her daughter more, plot development? It seems to me the most logical thing would be to fight and scream to cause a commotion, or save the future heir to the throne. Or perhaps she's so overwhelmed and unhappy in her position she's finding any way to get out of it.
I don't think her daughters life was ever in jeopardy. They wanted a boy and were paid for a boy. If she didn't point him out they would have done a 2 second check to figure it out.

She's autistic. Even in the scene where she's having a panic/distress attack in the funeral carriage I don't think she verbalizes. She also has a shocked expression and reaction to Vaemond getting his head cut off in season 1 but doesn't make a noise there either.rynning said:

I got the impression she has some sort of power of maybe precognition, so perhaps some reason there why she chose her son?
Earlier in the episode when the king wants the little boy pulled from studies to go sit in with the council, she made some remark about maybe he doesn't want to be king one day? At least, I thought I remembered something like that.
So maybe in some weird way she was saving the little boy from a future fate she saw that was even worse?

So just because they said it they were going to do it? It was a bluff. The same bluff we see in every movie. They had their marching orders to kill the boy. They weren't going to just kill her and the girl if she didn't point them out.
How was she supposed to know what their marching orders were or that it was a bluff?
And I'm fairly sure that it wasn't a bluff. They were keeping quiet as much as they needed to in order to get away cleanly but I have no doubt that if Helaena threatened to scream they would have killed her and both the kids. These guys aren't Jaqen H'ghar Faceless Men who only kill their designated target, quickly, cleanly, and then leave. They're two commoners, one happens to be an exterminator with access to the target and the other a cop known for his brutality. They almost got away with it too. Blood made it as far as the city gate with the head before he was caught and Cheese technically was never caught. He was only killed because Aegon had all the ratcatchers killed.
