Canned vodka cocktails coming soon. Don't know about straight bottled vodka.

I'm confused as hell.

What was all that scene in Texas with Beth going down there? Then back at the ranch. No explanation between the jump.

Was that all a flashback? Did I miss something.

Watched the episode last night and this was my question too. Thought they went into town to spend a couple nights in a hotel and then they're just back at the ranch. And it did not seem like either were flashbacks. Particularly when the episode ended with the guys in Texas going to work without Rip.

But considering I'm still trying to figure out who stole Tate's dinosaur bones, I'm guessing an answer won't be forthcoming.

This was my issue with the first episode. It's like they're snowing one timeline before he died and one timeline after he died but also not explaining it so maybe they aren't. Either way ep 2 was much more linear than the first.

part of the problem was that they shot a lot of the show before Costner left it. Going and doing that timehop is to help setup Beth and Rip to land on the new 6666 show.

They didn't start shooting the second half of season 5 until this spring. Costner's exit was long before that.

I understand that the timeline has jumped all over the place so far (and that's annoying) but I haven't really found it that hard to follow.

They didn't shoot it all early, but they did have the back half written. And then they had to rewrite it with Costner out of the picture. I am assuming all the 6666 flashbacks have to do with setting up that spin-off or the conclusion to Beth and Rips story. So they are leaving that part in, and then jumping ahead to deal with John's death. I think they could do a better job of letting us know thats what is happening, but I also think it was probably edited as a 2 hour premiere, and if you watch the episodes back to back it flows much better.

I did enjoy Crazy Beth quoting Gus McCrae about not wanting a poke bad enough to cheat for one.

This show is like eating Cheddar Jalapeno Cheetos - you know it's junk, it's no good for you, but it's just enjoyable.

I can. I just don't know if it was the people that she hired to kill John or if it was Kaycee's people.

Kaycee's contact earlier mentioned some group out of Houston that did the kind of work he asked about,

Yeah in the first new episode when she meets with the dude to talk about murder logistics, the aerial view was downtown Houston, that was Texas tower in the shot.

I'm guessing the latter

I'm guessing the former.

My thinking: that's why they showed the guy in the office in Houston watching the news and making a call. She knew right away she was in trouble from them. Too fast for Kayce to pull together.

I do admit they got me a little when she was in the house with the burner phone. You knew she was a dead woman at that point and were waiting for something to happen.

A person suddenly appears, and it's.....Jaime. It was actually nice to see him get the drop on someone for once. I was thinking he was going to take her to the train station himself, but he was back to being a ***** by the end of the episode.

Of course you knew the couple in the other car at the end were the hit team. I had not thought of the angle of Kayce arranging the hit, but that actually seems a bit out of character. If you want something out of left field, maybe Chief Rainwater?

I remember the conversation between Kayce and the black ops guy when he said "They may never know who shot him but the will know who paid them." Kayce's response was something like "yeah, when they kill them." I believe he knew, or assumed, the strike team would take out the contact, Atwood, especially after they saw the news. She would have been the only connection.

.

Same. I don't see any way it was Kayce. Doesn't fit from a timing standpoint and wouldn't really be his style either.

Pretty obvious that the hired killers are covering their tracks after it was re-classified as a murder.

I'm a little disappointed that Beth wasn't given the chance to kill her. That would have been a good scene.

And, if there was any doubt in Kayce's mind about whether or not Jamie was involved, this pretty much answered that question.

So which is a worse job, Beth's assistant or Jaime's assistant? I guess as Jaime's assistant you stand a lesser chance of dying.

Yup.

Then remember when Kayce told the detective to make a big deal about changing the status of John's death.

I have to say I was sad to see Beth talking to what's his face about business stuff. She's so damn defeated. But I think I have guessed correctly how this is going to end, and it makes sense for all of them to be together.

Seems more and more likely that they are going to stick with how the Duttons came to acquire the land and for what period of time (from 1883). It's somehow going back to the natives and will benefit Tate, due to his heritage.
