Similar to what I recall… but it's been a hot minute since this all went down. I thought there were also issues with delays on Yellowstone (writing, shooting schedules, etc.) that lead to conflicts with his Horizon sagas.

Very well done. Filming, script, dialog much better without Costner. Never missed him.

Billy Klapper, the old blacksmith that gave the spurs to Rip died in real life. He was a legend.
They gave him a dedication message at the end of the episode last night.
If you google his name, you'll find an interesting 4 minute video about his life and work. Recommended

I'm a little disappointed that Costner wasn't flung off of a circling horse and trampled...since circling horses are a critical part of the show...but what can you do?

I haven't followed this thread at all. I watched the last several minutes of S5: E8 before watching episode 9 today. Was it ever explained how Beth was unaware of the train station? I thought she snapped a pic of Jamie dumping the dead body at the train station? Was that at some other location?

Looks like this show is going to die a flailing death for a half season without its star, much like "House of Cards". Of course, I never found it to be a really great show. It's always been a guilty pleasure. We should at least get a few more good Rip scenes, though we'll have to suffer through Beth and Jamie in the process.

One thing I noticed, Costner's name was still in the opening credits.
Can someone remind me why Jamie and evil girlfriend wanted John dead? Cause he had killed the development deal? Evil girlfriend works for the developer, right?

This new episode felt like a shark jumping point. Costner being a stubborn ***** = lame/cliche/obvious plot device to duct tape the end of the show together.
BTW, I still hate Beth with 100% of my being, so I guess she's a good actress to make me have such a visceral reaction to a fictional character. I wish Rip would just punch her right in her toxic, constantly running mouth.

Do they try to make this difficult to find on purpose? When I do a search it give me a ton of options to subscribe, but none of them have the new episode listed.

Fortunately, our DVR picked it up but I was in the same situation last night looking for it on the streaming apps

Paramount + doesn't have the rights to stream it. They sold it to Peacock before they created their streaming service.
