It's an odd choice, but at least it was consistent with TLJ where rain from Ach-To was transferred to where Kylo was, and they explained it via the dyad thing, so I can't complain too much in a series where the main complaints are lack of cohesiveness.

Yeah, this was one of the (many) things I didn't like. I was ok with force healing because it just seemed like something the force could allow you to do. Teleporting objects, though, broke the rules in a way that didn't make sense to me.

JJ doesn't care about physics if it gets in the way of his shot. (Trek fans are probably still pissed at what he did) . I mean, he basically made all hyperspace travel instantaneous in this film.

It definitely started in TLJ, but the dice disappeared right? So it was more of a trick than a real transfer

Not what I was talking about. There is a point where Rey and Kylo are Forcetiming and Rey is in the rain. At the end they touch, and after the Forcetime breaks (maybe the one Luke interrupts) Kylo has water on his glove. It's clear they can actually interact with the separate environments and in this movie they learn to control it

I finally saw this last night, and was way better than my lowered expectations had me ready for. I saw ANH when I was 6 and became a total fan. Interestingly, I feel the same after TROS as I did about ROTJ, that it was a flawed movie but a fun ending to the trilogy. The difference being that ROTJ was the weakest, not the best, of the three.

The SW universe is definitely compelling, but it is telling that after ROTJ the most interesting movies and TV shows have been the ones around the main characters. Rogue One was so good, as has been The Mandalorian. They just never seemed to make the other trilogies with the same sort of imagination.

On a side note, someone asked what was Finn's character about. It seemed to be nothing more than a poorly delivered attempt to recreate the Luke, Leia, Han dynamic without good character development.

Yep. Palpatine remarked in this film about how a force dyad like this had not been seen in generations. That one line served the purpose of demonstrating that it was totally possible but was also very rare.

Disney officially ignored it, and didn't bother to hire good or creative writers for these movies
Lawrence Kasdan was the primary writer for The Force Awakens. This is the same guy who wrote The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and Raiders of the Lost Ark. He is definitely a great writer.

For The Force Awakens, I think he may have been directed to put together a "safe" Star Wars movie, which The Force Awakens definitely was. Not a whole lot of originality or new themes, just something familiar to fans of the OT.

They completely blew off Rose several times. Made me laugh. "Hey Rose, we're about to leave and spend the next hour of the movie doing stuff, why don't you stay here and get some intel on these new ships. We will get back to you later for a couple lines and leave you again. Okay thanks bye."
Not gonna lie, I really enjoyed JJ's approach to Rose after being force-fed her sour demeanor in TLJ. Quite satisfying. "Here Rose, you go stand over here for the duration of the film"

For some reason I keep getting stories on my news feed about how Rose got screwed over by not having more of her. I didn't realize anyone cared about her character, but it seems like the blogging community loved her for some reason.

Finn could have been a great character. A stormtrooper who turns good had a lot of potential. They just never developed it. Really they never developed any character except Kylo Ren.

Seeing the movie here in an hour or so! (Probably more like 2 because of previews).

I have stayed very cold on this movie for a while now, so am really fresh going in and don't know much at all.

She stood up to online bullying and shaming. Whatever you think about her character, she as a person is a kick ass role model for girls.

She didn't deserve online ridicule for doing what she was told for TLJ as an actress. A small dose of her character would have been fine. I'm sure she'll go on to much better roles and is a talented actress.

But Rian screwed up big time with the way he introduced her character and forced into the main group.

Which ties into Finn. Adding 5th wheel Rose basically botched up the chance to further develop Finn. If you think back to the OT, the characters and their personalities were introduced in ANH. But ESB is really where that bond developed. Han saves Luke on Hoth, the Leia-Han relationship, etc. Instead, TLJ gave us ****ing Rose and the main trio spending much of the movie apart.

Will post more comments later but I couldnt get past Palpatine basically being Leviathan from Hellraiser 2. His whole plot arc was completely ******ed.

I mean. Snoke was made up to be the new big bad, but the TLJ treatment screwed that up. Then it was hamfisted that oh yeah, since the Emperor has all this science and money available they just cloned Snokes until they could make a puppet work the way he wanted. Never mind that no explanation was offered on where all the infrastructure and support for the Final Order came from.

Ok, so we get that Rey and Kylo are connected, but Snoke said he was doing that in TLJ. But then they can still do it after he died so that's false. Somehow them being together is dark side fuel to heal palpatine back to normal and make his force lightning superpowered enough to wipe out the rebel fleet (that was all but destroyed in TLJ as a reminder).

Yeah, they really needed TLJ to set it up, whether it was a return of Palpatine or going the Plagueis route. Such a lost opportunity.

Sure but fiction doesn't mean anarchy. Stories only work when they follow the structures of the setting they're in - whatever that may be.

why wouldnt that follow the structure of the story? As the 3 movies have progressed, their connection has grown stronger. First they just hear and then see each other, than objects around them are accidentally coming throuhg, then they can control it

Yeah, and it's dumber and dumber each time. This makes them stronger than every Jedi we've ever seen, or at least somehow different. The structure of this storyline didn't begin in episode 7.

So now that I got the gripes out of the way. The good:

Music was absolutely nails. Loved hearing dark side versions of Reys theme and light side versions of Kylos. Loved the head nods to the OT like when Rey stepped into the destroyed death star throne room.

Rose had less than 5 minutes of screen time. (And looks like Finn found a new piece of tail with a similar backstory).

Loved the new droid and Sith-3PO.

Chewy reaction to Leais death was tough.

The force lightning reveal for Rey was cool. It was pretty clear she was a Palpatine (somehow) because hes the only one we've seen capable of that trick in the movies.

Liked that Rey crafted a yellow (or maybe white) saber out of parts of her old scavenger staff.

So should every Jedi throughout the entire history of Jedi have the exact same powers? That sounds dumber and dumber.

The closest thing I can come up with is the last few episodes of Rebels where Ezra enters a portal in a Jedi temple where he can access different times and spaces. He is able to pull Ahsoka from her time into the present.

In TROS, it probably has something to do with Kylo and Rey being a force dyad, which I personally hadn't heard of before...but I'm not an avid reader of all the star wars books.

Well they're not mutants, so, sure? It's a many thousand year old religion. She learned what she learned supposedly by studying the texts, no?

They seemed to change the force in the third trilogy. Now it's almost sentient, didnt someone say the force wanted something at some point?

By your logic, we shouldn't be able to run any faster than a caveman could.
Ulrich
How long do you want to ignore this user?
After 20,000 years of organized study by thousands of Jedi and sith, jedi could sense and react to danger, run fast, move objects, and sometimes influence weak minds.

After 30 years with a total of exactly 3 Jedi, Jedi can now rip ships on full thruster from the sky, bring people back to life, fight through force-space-time, teleport objects, fly, and who knows what all else. It's not exactly a small incremental change, it's a quantum leap when one shouldn't happen.
