I went in with muted expectations due to early RT scores, and came out even more slightly disappointed.

This movie had the plot of what should have been 1hr 45 at most and was somehow stretched to 2.5hrs Lots of flash backs, force linking whatever, and drawn out scenes with little to no need.

I enjoyed this one the least...but still mildly enjoyed it.

Am I the only one who thinks all of the new (Disney era) movies are good? They aren't revolutionary like the original trilogy, but they are fun. Solo is fun. The Last Jedi is fun. Rise of Skywalker is fun. Sure they aren't cinematic masterpieces, but if we're being honest with ourselves, are any of the movies other than Empire masterpieces?

I rewatched every Star Wars movie in order before TROS opening night, and after surviving the sequels (edit: I meant prequels), I was all smiles for the next 7 movies.

I think the best way to measure success of these movies is by listening to our 10-16 year old kids. We are all geriatrics compared to when we thought Star Wars was the bomb. My 12, 13, and 15 year olds all thought this was the best of all the Star Wars movies. I was surprised at that, though I did think it was a good movie. I think it's like Aggies arguing over the loudest game at Kyle Field ever. Different perspectives at different times in our lives. I think this was a great movie and would recommend anyone going and seeing it.

Yeah, I think it's easy to forget or take for granted that for over 40 years, Star Wars has been trying to make movies that both kids and adults will get into. A lot of critics want the movies to grow up with them and become cynical too. During ROS, I tried to step back and think about how I would have seen some of those things at different ages and remember how awesome Ewoks were. Even TLJ is something I might have liked more in my teenage years.

Saw it tonight and all I can say is why JJ, why did you not do all 3 movies?

Honestly you can watch 7 and 9 and pretend 8 doesn't exist so bravo to JJ for making that mostly work. Loved when Luke caught his ligh saber as Rey tried to throw it away and what he said.

Overall not the best SW movie but still a good one. Really enjoyed it.

Okay, I'll say it. This movie was very meh. JJ did everything he could to erase Johnson, but was left with such a big bag of ****, he couldn't do much with it.

Why in the world would Anakin Skywalker code C3PO to not be able to translate Sith?

They spent way too much time attacking the one ship. They should have been going after the rest of the fleet as well. All it took was a few shots at the guns to blow up the ship. Right out of Independence Day.

And Wtf was this mess about transporting items from one vision to reality. Utter garbage.

Dying because you over used the force is also stupid as ****

We're in the cave of evil. Star Wars is lost. Disney failed.

I can't believe the trilogy is over...because it never felt like it ever started. The plot elements of TROS were so abundant that it alone could have spanned 3 movies. And that's not a good thing.

To be clear, I liked TFA and hated TLJ. After walking out of The Rise of Skywalker, the movie left me feeling like my sick dog was finally put down (I'm sad about the loss, but glad it's over).

This movie was a narrative mess. It was a bukkake of retcon jizz. The first 2 hours were mcguffin quest after mcguffin quest. I audibly laughed when Rey pulled out the compass thing on the dagger and lined it up perfectly with the wreckage of the original death star and the rocks from her specific vantage point.

I CANNOT BELIEVE they went with a death star plot AGAIN. Palpatine electrocuted himself for a 3rd time (the second time he's blasted his own face off). I've never seen thicker plot armor than what Abrams crafted for these characters.....

It's just...there's a thousand things that were gross fan service or outright hand waving non-sense. There's a ton of story elements in this movie that would make for the foundation of a better trilogy than what we were given.

I'd rather see 3 movies about Leia's journey to becoming a jedi and training with Luke and how those new found skills were used to lead the rebellion. I'd rather see a 3 movie trilogy about Luke's jedi academy and the fall of Ben Solo, the Knigts of Ren rise, and their terrorist exploits. I'd rather see a Sith trilogy that explores their way of life, religion, and even a Darth Sidious origin story.

TLJ misunderstood what SW should be about, but TROS lacks understanding entirely. SW isn't meant to be taken seriously, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't make an effort.

It's JJ Abrams fault. It's Rian Johnson's fault. It's Kathleen Kennedy's fault. They wasted Mark Hammil, Harrison Ford, and what remained of Carrie Fisher. RIP OT.

Now, it's truly time to let old things die.

I completely agree that there were so many other things they could have focused on. I enjoyed the ST, but in retrospect i don't feel as if we got anything but an OT remake. TFA was great when it came out because it was SW, but during rewatches, it's not as good (but still good) because.....it's just SW again.

I was intrigued by who Rey was and the power she seemed to have with absolutely no training so I wish we could have seen her story play out slower even if it was ultimately the same. Luke's concern with her in TLJ could've Been fleshed out by him explaining what he had learned about both the Jedi and Sith (and pointing out more of the Sith-like things Rey did).

Now that the ST is over, what really wish we could see is what Rey does next. As you mentioned, I would like to have seen the same for the OT (Luke's efforts to learn more about both the Jedi and Sith and then train new Jedi only to have it come crashing down around him).

Saw it last night. The first 1/3 felt rushed, the middle 1/3 felt like it was written by a 10-year old, and the final 1/3 was the best Star Wars we've seen since the original trilogy.

Anakin didn't. Yes, Anakin created C-3P0, but recall at the end of Revenge of the Sith when Bail Organa instructed his assistant to have the protocol droid's memory wiped? It's probable that the programming was implemented at that time.

That makes even less sense.

You think if we captured an Android from Hitler, who had a secret code language, we would reprogram it to NOT translate it? It would give us vital intelligence about the enemy.

3PO being programmed to not translate Sith makes total sense to me considering real life politics. Look at our current history erasing efforts underway in this country with Civil War events, relics, statues. My actual first thought when 3PO said that was, "That makes sense." Because we are seeing it happen in real time.

C3PO not being allowed to translate sith reminds me of the German ban on Nazi imagery. Everyone knows nothing good will come of that and it's banished for good reason.

Wasn't trying to determine whether it makes sense, just pointing out that plot point from the end of Episode III.

I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. Overall, it's probably my favorite Disney SW movie. They could've had a great trilogy if they had this story/a plan from the beginning.

I don't participate in the fan speculation prior. Don't really care what a bunch of basement dwelling bozos think. This was a great ending.

Curious if anyone here has read "Resistance Reborn" the novel set between TLJ and TROS? I've got about 80 pages left to go and it's kind of meh (too much Poe for my liking) but it does fill in a lot of gaps & has some good callbacks. Would be particularly interesting for those bothered by the Resistance/civilian fleet arriving out of nowhere to save the day element.

Yep, I do think there is quite a bit of Good Old Day Syndrome that the OT benefits from while new ones are scrutinized more.

This movie was very good. If you didn't like it, that's fine. That's more on you than the movie. The Art House is probably on Main Street in your town. Go there, see a film. Enjoy.
