Holy crap that was great! Not sure how all will feel about it, but I enjoyed the redemption of Ben Solo. Bravo to Adam Driver, guy just nailed his role.

Will take another viewing to unpack it all, but I loved it.

And what the heck, her staff was a lightsaber all along... we've argued that since TFA photos were released. So, we can only assume she knew it all along I guess.
What did you like about his redemption? Because to me it felt completely unearned and awful. Especially when you consider that the series is built on one of the biggest redemption stories of all time with Vader.

Not sure, it just felt right to me. I thought the one thing TFA and TLJ sold well was his conflicted feelings. Even Snoke acknowledged it. Point is, his redemption was hinted and built over 3 movies. It felt 100 times more real than the fall of Anakin for example.

I also thought Drivers performance sold it. He was completely believable and likeable as Ben Solo. It was bad ass to see him with a Jedi saber.

What, did I blink or something? Totally missed this. Or were you referring to when we heard the Jedi voices speaking to Rey (of which the only voice I could identify for certain was Yoda)?

Yep. The voices

That's what i assumed. I think they probably should have kept trimming. It was kind of weird to go "is he her dad? Or is the old ladies man kind of hitting on her?" since there was essentially zero setup for it.
I had to suppress the notion that all three black people in the galaxy know each other. But they may be related, so...I don't know where I'm going with this.

Fair enough, if it connected with you that's a good thing. Wish it had for me.

I thought how they used Leia and Han for it helped a lot.

My wife and I talked about this on the way home. How do they not have an editor of some sort who points this out along the way? It's so brain dead.

It was really jarring for me when Han showed up. I know they were mirroring the scene from TFA, but it didn't work for me. I think force ghost Luke would have been better there, but I guess you can't have him appear to every character having an internal conflict.

b/c its the basis for the next trilogy, they're the Organa-Calrissian twins (Jacen & Jaina will be revealed).

I will say I enjoyed all the Sith stuff. I'm a sucker for massive crumbling temples and old relics.

Plus I felt a little India Jones homage with Palps melting at the end.
I had a little Indiana Jones vibe on the whole quest thing. Enjoyed.

And the emperor's audience of Sith priests reminded me of elements from the Knights of the Old Republic trailers that I've hoped to see worked into the movies.

When we see Han, he wasn't a blue Force ghost, so are we to assume he was just some sort of vision, or can non-Force users be ghosts too?

I want to think the Skywalkers (Anakin, Padme, Luke, Leia, BEN) and Han, are all happily united as Force ghosts.
Liquid Wrench

Didn't Han tell Kylo that he was in his memories? So, kind of a dramatization of Ben Solo thinking about what his old man would say to him if he, you know, hadn't killed him.

Also I'd like to echo what was said above about JJ and hyperspace. In ANH it takes them days to get to Alderan, and now Kylo can be anywhere in the galaxy in 5 minutes?

The force connection stuff didn't bother me as much, although handing things across spacetime with the force is problematic for how the universe worked in all the other movies.

Still it's Star Wars, and if JJ can **** with the science in Star Trek then I guess he can do anything he wants in this universe.

So Finn is force sensitive right? He was the only one that could feel Rey when she "died"

Yeah, i took that scene as Ben reliving the TFA scene in his own head, but then choosing differently. I really liked how they did it, but can see that not wveryone would feel the same.

It seems so. Maybe the empire snatched him for Sith school but he failed out and got sent to storm trooper class instead

Seemed like a strange thing to throw in there, to me, but they definitely imply he is sensitive.

I thought TFA hinted at Finn being force sensitive when he picked up Rey's lightsaber, and also how he felt some sort of bond with her right away despite being a Storm Trooper runaway with no experience of personal relationships. Didn't seem like a big stretch this time around.

They've gone all in on the empire stealing kids. That ties nicely to the cartoons and the Mando.

I suppose the Obi Wan series will be about him making sure that doesn't happen on a certain desert planet

Do we have a catalog of the Jedi voices? Definitely included were:

Anakin (Hayden)
Luke
Mace
Qui-Gon
Yoda
Obi-Wan (Alec and Ewan)
Ahsoka

Was Leia in there? Surely she was.

The one I didn't catch that I think would be likely would be Kanan (Freddie Prince Jr)

For the record, there were black First Order officers.

I liked it much more on 2nd viewing. The final act is still a mess, and I would have preferred they kept Kylo as the big bad and not brought back Palpatine (that arc in TLJ actually worked for me, plus you avoid the ROTJ remake complaints we all know are coming), but the movie is really entertaining

Ridley and Driver were nails in their roles. Very well done to both
Oscar Isaac also really stood out. JJ really let him be the Han Solo type, finally. 'Does she do that to us?'
The first time I thought Finns unspoken message to Rey had to be love, but on 2nd viewing maybe it is that he is Force sensitive: he seems to feel her death and he trusted a feeling in battle tactics. I assume there will be a book at some point. Or we will get the movie in 10-15 years when they admit that once again there's more to the allegedly complete saga
Threepio used properly again after 36 years. Thank the maker!
BB-8 awesome as always. His bonds with Poe and Rey add so much to their characters every time. D-0 wasn't necessary but I'll take a cute droid who isn't annoying. Plus JJ voices him so " as he would say, happy!'

My favorite random character was Ackbar's son. I'm pretty sure I heard Poe call him Junior. It really felt to me that JJ couldnt believe Johnson killed Ackbar off screen and that we had to have a Mon Cal

Wish they could have given 5-10 extra movie seconds to Wedge Antilles... perhaps have somebody acknowledge his name... perhaps show him taking out one of the destroyers. But glad he was included.

I think my only regret was not seeing force ghost Obi-Wan and Anakin. Thought for sure we'd get a quick reunion.

That's one thing I rely on the Man Children of the Internet for. I don't know any of the EU or animated characters, just knew there were some voices I didn't recognize.

I for one thought the chanting Sith cult in the arena was pretty cool. The Jedi and Sith don't get enough play as the powerful religions they once were
