I enjoyed it as a whole, particularly a lot of callbacks, and managed to avoid spoilers until I saw it.
Highlights for me:
- Ending sequence was fun. Loved seeing Wedge, the Ghost, and hearing all the jedi voice (including Kanan and Ahsoka!!!!)
- Pleasant surprise to have Han return like that, figured Harrison Ford was done with it all after Force Awakens.
- I felt that Poe's character arc had a great payoff in this one. It feels like he evolved throughout the series more than any of the other main ones.
- The Sith Temple was a cool addition, and felt like a major part beyond the callbacks that really connected Rebels in particular to the movies
Meh Parts for Me:
- Obviously they were put in a tough spot with Carrie passing and did the best they could do, but the scenes with Leia felt like one of those absurdist comedy spots where everyone speaks around the robot so that its lines make sense. It just felt...unnatural.
- Lando and the two new female characters felt very shoehorned in. The new characters in particular weren't given much in backstory, and it made it harder to care about them.
- Just in general, the first half moved super quickly. Obviously, they had to fit a lot of exposition in there to make it work after where TLJ left them narratively, but you can definitely feel it
- Knights of Ren were still a total letdown
As much as I love the Sith Temple, I would have preferred using it as a method for Kylo to build his powers, maybe with the Emperor as a force ghost guiding him instead of being actually physically manifested. Of course, the Emperor is looking for a way to restore his own body or maybe take over Kylo's. The planet-killing thing was a bit overdone, and I think it would have been cool to see Kylo seeking to become the ultimate sith lord. But that's just my take /shrug
