She reached out across systems to Ben which distracts him for the split second that Rey needs to stab him. I think her memory plus Rey healing him brings him back.

Even though it was a split second scene I loved the shot of Rey and Ben with the blue lightsabers

I don't understand the negative criticism. There will always be contrarians who just want attention and I ignore them.

If you are a Star Wars fan, this should have checked lots of boxes. Great and familiar characters. Epic battle scenes. Good vs evil. Cool special effects. Loads of nostalgia without it seeming like 3 hours of Easter eggs.

If you aren't a huge Star Wars fan, you'll still like it. It's a fun and entertaining movie with plenty of twists.

They actually played it like this was last of the Skywalker series. Money talks and they could always reboot it. But they didn't leave any open ended questions. If that was truly the last in the lineage, they went out with a bang.

Our theatre was packed. Everybody stuck around for at least 10 minutes of end credits and music. Probably, like me, they wanted to take "one last look at my friends".

The Rise of Skywalker is awesome.

Maybe a little out of character but I didn't mind it.

My crowd was subdued. No applauding or laughing or reacting at all really. Applause at the end but that is it. Showing was sold out. When I left there were no lines and much of anyone in lobby, I guess mainly due to reserved seating and no longer having to wait. Still I thought to myself "This is a Star Wars opening night? There's no life in here!"

Yoda, Qui Gon, Obi Wan, Luke, Leia, Mace, I think Ahsoka maybe.

That's makes sense. The thing she had to do was to sacrifice her son and that killed her. I like that.

I enjoyed it.
The first act was a mess due to all the quick paced course correction they were forced to do. But then they settled in and I started to enjoy it. Surprising, I was happy with the ending.
I'm a pretty big Star Wars geek, but even I had a bit of a struggle trying to logically piece together the Emperor and what all he had going on when they jumped into the middle of it. I can only imagine the confusion of your average movie goer. I think that is a big problem that should have been built into Episode 8 (thanks RJ for screwing that up). But aside from that, I really liked the third act. Overall I was pretty happy.

Yeah and remember when Luke reached out across worlds like that it killed him too. That's what I'm going with. Chewie's reaction to her death had me almost tearing up

Overall, a very enjoyable experience. A million times better than TLJ.

But, still problems. The first half-hour was a mess. Just whiplash speed and terrible editing. I don't think any single scene lasted longer than 30 seconds.

Basically, when Lando shows up, they settle down and let the scenes breathe. When they get to the wreckage on Endor, it gets really good and I was very entertained by the final battle with Palpatine.

So, started poorly but settled in and stuck the landing.

And this strengthens my feelings that Kylo/Ben is the most interesting character on all of the series. Every scene he was in was great. I especially loved every long-distance interaction between Kylo and Rey.

Pros:
WEDGE!!!
Rose was almost an afterthought
Luke was given scenes worthy of Mark Hamill
Billy Dee Williams was a welcome return.
Ben's redemption felt natural.
The run through the halls of the Star Destroyer blasting Storm Troopers was cool.
Rey's Jedi mind trick on the Storm Troopers was hilarious.

Cons:
Every scene with Leia was weird. The dialogue was strange. It was obvious they wrote everyone's lines to fit around what they had film of her saying. Just awkward.
The chemistry between the three main characters seemed forced. Their banter back and forth was poorly written.
The movie bounced between world way too much.
And if I heard correctly, didn't this whole movie take place within 16 hours? I didn't realize flying through hyperspace was that quick.
Oh, one more con: the opening crawl was kinda ridiculous. And it was really short.

Still, the good outweighed the bad and I will be seeing this again next week.

I'm surprised there hasn't been any mention of the Rey/ lightning moment. I don't like that they did the Chewie fake out, but this moment got the biggest reaction from me. I think more because of Rey than Chewie.

Im excited to see it again. Probably doesn't work if you're not a Star Wars fan just because there's so much to wrap up. I sort of groaned at the "I couldn't stop smiling," reviews, but i can legitimately feel it in my cheeks right now.

Loved it. So did the family. Yes there are all kinds of flaws and people will be unhappy. But they tied it up best the could considering the last movie.

It was fun non stop and just enjoyed and thrilled we got Star Wars one last time. Not going to overthink and kill it.

I enjoyed it as a whole, particularly a lot of callbacks, and managed to avoid spoilers until I saw it.

Highlights for me:
  • Ending sequence was fun. Loved seeing Wedge, the Ghost, and hearing all the jedi voice (including Kanan and Ahsoka!!!!)
  • Pleasant surprise to have Han return like that, figured Harrison Ford was done with it all after Force Awakens.
  • I felt that Poe's character arc had a great payoff in this one. It feels like he evolved throughout the series more than any of the other main ones.
  • The Sith Temple was a cool addition, and felt like a major part beyond the callbacks that really connected Rebels in particular to the movies

Meh Parts for Me:
  • Obviously they were put in a tough spot with Carrie passing and did the best they could do, but the scenes with Leia felt like one of those absurdist comedy spots where everyone speaks around the robot so that its lines make sense. It just felt...unnatural.
  • Lando and the two new female characters felt very shoehorned in. The new characters in particular weren't given much in backstory, and it made it harder to care about them.
  • Just in general, the first half moved super quickly. Obviously, they had to fit a lot of exposition in there to make it work after where TLJ left them narratively, but you can definitely feel it
  • Knights of Ren were still a total letdown

As much as I love the Sith Temple, I would have preferred using it as a method for Kylo to build his powers, maybe with the Emperor as a force ghost guiding him instead of being actually physically manifested. Of course, the Emperor is looking for a way to restore his own body or maybe take over Kylo's. The planet-killing thing was a bit overdone, and I think it would have been cool to see Kylo seeking to become the ultimate sith lord. But that's just my take /shrug

Hyperspace has always been kind of inconsistent in Star Wars. Sometimes it takes a long time, sometimes not. In general, the answer tends to be whatever the plot calls for

I also got some early Luke vibes as Kyle was running around the Sith planet on his way to Rey. I thought that was awesome.

Agree Kylo is a great character.

On the flip, General Hux might be the worst. He was alright in TFA, was slapstick ultra groan city in TLJ, and was just a pathetic imp in this one. Was glad to see him blasted away.

I loved it. Forget about plot mechanics - overall it felt real and authentic. Great acting, great dialog, great cgi. Natural looking. Had the same feel as the force awakens and the original trilogy. Give JJ credit for nailing the essence Star Wars for the way I enjoy it. I cried, I laughed, I cheered, I knee slapped.

Feels like in future binges I can now skip over TLJ.

My 12 year old son is freaking out over something about orange kyber crystals at the end that he cant articulate but needs to go to his Jedi fallen order game to sort out.

My 14 year old son loved all of it and confirmed some dude from Rebels had a voice part.

Who were some of the Jedi talking to Rey at the end? Obviously mace windu stood out. Yoda. Qui Gon?

I want to watch it again just to re-experience that part
From what I heard:
Luke
Yoda
Obi Wan
Qui Gon
Ahsoka
Kanan
Anakin
Mace

Maybe more? I was trying to pick them out and compared notes with my buddy afterwards

I thought that was an out-and-out FU to Rian's mangling of Luke in TLJ. Hamill actually looked like he was enjoying this one.

Was really hoping anakin would appear at the end and tell Kylo how to bring Rey back from the dead. Something he couldn't do with Padme

Agree on the Knights of Ren Along with Phasma that is two sets of potentially cool villains that ended up being basically useless to a large degree.

I really wanted the KOR to light up some blades and have a legit battle instead of Ben tearing them a new one with his blade. Loved the pass from Rey there

Chewie finally got his due this movie

How did we not see Rey being a Palpatine?!?! We should have guessed that the second we heard Palps the trailer.

I was hoping for a few more Easter Eggs... more references to Rebels and Ashoka. I was listening for Ashoka when all the Jedi were talking, but I didn't hear her.

I don't think that line was a **** you to Rian or TLJ. I thought this movie did a pretty good job of being respectful to TLJ actually. The way they incorporated the projection and Ach To. It certainly walked back some stuff, but I didn't think it was ****ting on anything.

The only thing I thought was kinda of a jab was the line about the Holdo maneuver.

We were talking about that too. Probably, but then again, force healing has been a thing in just about every game with jedi, so there's some kind of precedent, at least
