So, we have characters from seasons one through three; how long before Julie Pierce (Hillary Swank) makes an appearance?

All that is running through my head right now...

She's cannon. So if they can get her they will use her.

Yea but she was kinda the death knell of the film franchise. Her film was widely unpopular and bringing her in is a bit of distraction. Other than Miyagi, did any other character from the Macchio trilogy interact with her in KK4?

She's canon according the creators. And Karate Kid 3 was really the end. That's quite possibly the worst movie made. If they can get her, they'll use her somehow.

I never disputed whether it was canon or not. Just saying you have Hilary swank and pat morita interacting, did swanks character have any interaction with Johnny, kreese, daniel, or anyone of from the macchio trilogy other than mr miyagi?

officially part of the story.

So when disney bought star wars, they did not accept the expanded universe books as part of the official story. It had situations where Luke tries to reestablish the jedi order, han and leia have twins, luke marries a force sensitive apprentice of Vader, really good story lines that kept Star Wars lore moving from the 80s until the prequels.

Well Disney in their infinite wisdom throws all that material out and decides to hand creative to JJ Abrams et al, who dont really understand storytelling. His "mystery box" theory was complete nonsense.

So canon is "what content is officially part of the story."

In this case, the Karate Kid with Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan is not canon.

Yep, in our house we view the LaRusso family as the bad guys in the show. I mean, for the most part, Daniel is a dbag himself.
This is basically what the writers keep doing in one way or another over and over again...and it works. Basically they try to present an image of a character or action as good or bad, then they flip things on you and make what was bad...good and vice versa. IMO it's basically the hallmark "gimic" of the series. For me at least, it works for this series given the lack of... seriousness involved.

What does it mean that this show with 4 seasons and 41 episode have a thread with only 570 posts and 64K views? Netflix claims this show is crazy popular, and it seems to be popular in pop culture. Why doesn't it drive more discussion?
Is it simply the Netflix model of dropping all episodes at once so you don't get week by week discussion and speculation?

Compared to Wheel of time with one season at 1.4K posts and 104K views.
Boba Fett with half a season at 620 posts and 37K views.

Think it is both the way Netflix releases all at once and it's not the kind of show that requires deep discussion or a lot of theorizing. It's awesome...but it is fluff.

Wheel of Time has all those sanctimonious book readers ****ting on the show. Which includes me.

Boba Fett's quality is highly debatable and has bunch of people ****ting on the show.

CK isn't deep in lore, nor is this season really controversial and in need of debate. More like "Yeah that was a fun season." "Yeah" "Yeah"

Agree with the dropping all episodes part. I'm expecting Netflix to go to the drop 1~2 episodes every week model pretty soon.

Well the show is predicated on the idea that Johnny is a decent fellow who just had a corrupting sensei. Even the interactions with Daniel in KK1 are exacerbated by Daniel trying to steal away Johnny girl or Daniels inability to let sleeping dogs lie (at the costume party Daniel starts a fight.)

I think rather than just being subversive with traditional morality (good v bad) they are trying to show a level of depth to a character. Tori being a great example, there is nothing redeeming about her, yet they are trying to make her sympathetic. It doesnt work of course because no one likes an angsty female teenager, except maybe a casting couch.

My point is the morality flip isnt a gimmick in the sense that they are reshuffling the deck, but they are trying to round out these characters as having more motivation and depth than "somebody get him a body bag!" one dimension.

My predictions:
Chozen forms new Miyagi Do since LaRusso and Lawrence lost the tournament and have to close their dojos.

Robby and Tory join new Miyagi Do after realizing how bad Cobra Kai has become.

Krease realizes how bad Cobra Kai is and he helps (consults from prison) the new Miyagi Do in order to beat Terry Silver.

They beat Terry Silver and Johnny gets his Cobra Kai back. LaRusso continues with Miyagi Do. They become friendly competitors. Everyone goes on to college or on with life...

They've got everything teed up in Season 5 to wrap this up perfectly.
I'm not saying I'm out if they draw this beyond 5 seasons because the shows are short, commercial free, and the seasons have only 10 episodes, but I'll be pretty disappointed if they screw up the good thing they've got going.

Netflix probably gets pretty good return on their investment with Cobra Kai. No big CGI budget, no need for huge fancy sets other than the tournament, actors/actresses are probably not that expensive at all. And yet it reliably becomes the #1 watched show for short periods of time.

I agree season 5 could wrap it up perfectly, but my guess is they'll continue.

What hilarious is they passed on it originally.

They didn't actually. YouTube just outbid them.

Great finale. Absolutely loved both of the final fights and Daniel and Johnny teaming up again.

Had a feeling Terry would pull some dirty ***** It'll be interesting to see if Robby and Tory flip to Miyagi, who will be the big bad for CK. Maybe Kenny was set up for that.

It never quite reached the hype levels of the very end of the S3 finale for me (Johnny and Daniel fighting Kreese), but it was still awesome. Cool to see Chozen coming back for S5.

So we thinking Mike Barnes returns?

And once again, I cannot emphasize enough how ridiculously fun this show is. IT SHOULD NOT WORK, but it does.

Miguel's father will turn out to be a a cartel guy who just so happens to train his cartel guys in karate.

Why on earth would they want to introduce a new/returning character and a bold new story line? They still have hours of screen time to explore the exciting story arch of Daniel's son!!!!!
