I actually thought the fight scene at the end of season two was kind of well done and entertaining. Also I enjoy the storyline but yeah definitely some bad acting.

I crack up every time someone mentions that Daniel is "The 2 time All Valley under 18 Karate Champion" like he won an Olympic medal or something
Johnny was ALSO 2 time All valley under 18 Karate Champion. the two years before Daniel arrived. Johnny told that to Miguel, but since Johnny's car dealership isn't the main sponsor they don't mention it.

When did Daniel win the 2nd time? Was that in KK3? I think I may have seen that one once, so I forget everything about it.

Yes KK3.

Daniel returns from Okinawa and they set up a bonsai shop. Kreese's buddy, who is extremely wealthy, recruits some karate ringer to bully Daniel, destroy their shop etc etc. Daniel befriends the new cobra commander and starts training under him. They resolve it at the tournament.

Ringing any bells?

I like the series for what it is.

They do a good job of showing Daniel's flaws...he's not the perfect hero we like to remember from the movies (though he wasn't perfect in the movies either). His wife's character fits in well here, because she's the one that can call him out when he goes too far.

I like what they've done with Johnny's character. Underneath the tough outer layer he wants to help these kids and be a good guy...he just wants to do it with some edge and give the finger to the modern PC mindset. He also wants to be a good father deep-down. He's not the villain. He's complicated.

Kreese is the perfect villain. Hasn't changed at all. I like the dynamic of him pushing Johnny aside and forcing Johnny to make a choice.

It's a teenager show just as much as it's a nostalgia show...so things will be different for kids of the current times.

But at the end of the day, it has a good message. And one of the underlying themes is the story of two fathers struggling in their own ways to be an example for their kids.

And come on...how can you not love the easter eggs and 80's references.

I watch it for fun...not for deep acting or deep storyline.

Vaguely. Is it worth watching again? Sounds pretty bad.

It's bad...but sort of in good bad movie way. I think I enjoyed it more than KK2.

And it gets referenced in Cobra Kai....well, once anyway in a rather humorous scene.

I say watch it. Its enjoyable if you go into it knowing it's a sequel no one asked for.

Edit. Oh never mind you meant KK3. I thought you meant Cobra Kai.

think it's fair to say Barney Stinson on HIMYM wanted this. Redemption for the true Hero of KK finally. Team Johnny!!!!!

What was the reference? I already watched Cobra Kai. I almost certainly missed it.

Well this isnt what he is talking about, but the reason Cobra Kai is banned from the tournament is what happens at the end of KK3.

This was indeed what I was referencing. I just found it amusing when Johnny was like "I don't even know who that is?!!!" when the tourney board was referencing the main bad guy in KK3.

Holy mother of ***

I just finished S2 and this show is so motherf******badass!!

Acting? Not great by any means but overall its so so well done. The the school fight scene is epic. I think they have done an awesome job with Johnny's character and easily turned him into the most likeable on the show. Just something about a villain turns good....the redemption of it all! Love it!

I'm on ep 3 or 4 of season 2 and loving this.

I don't remember KK2 or KK3 at all! Maybe I will have to find those and watch them someday. Johnny is awesome.

Terry Silver - the rich bad guy from KK3- is just so much fun to watch. He's ridiculously over the top and seems to love it.

It would not surprise me if that episode of HIMYM had something to do with this show getting made.

Yes, it's referenced a couple times in season 2. They bring out the ice blocks at Valleyfest that Daniel was going to chop through, and you see the hand drum and he references how that drum saved his life in Okinawa. I binged both seasons this past weekend and loved them. So great

The leaders into season 2 show these two things perfectly.

Ralph Macchio does some bit on ESPN 30 for 30 about the tournament being one of the biggest sporting events in (movie) history, and talk about the crow kick being illegal.

But, it's the first time that has ever been mentioned in the series or the movies as an illegal kick. And if you watch KK1, you see lots of head kicks in the tournament. I think they dropped that detail in early just to help progress the writing.

So, you could tell from early on that they are trying to play off Daniel as some guy that is over-driven and no longer has "balance" in his life, and Johnny as a good guy that is tough, but not a jerk.

That dynamic works so well.

Here is a link to the 30 by 30 if you have not seen it.

How glad are producers and makers of this show that the original Karate Kid didn't take Johnny's "badguyness" to another level? Like make him truly evil?

They made him just the right amount of heel in the movie to make this new series work imho.

The whole point of the series was that you can be tough, and defend yourself, without being toxic.

The three "bad" guys are:

1) Johnny - tough jock. He actually gives Daniel the trophy at the end of the match, and tells him "you're all right, man". Tough, cocky jock, but not an actual evil person.

2) Chosen - tough karate specialist that was too caught up in "honor". Again, misguided but not evil.

3) Mike Barnes - Ok, this kid is kind of evil. Super, super cocky, destroying the bonzia tree and shop, and is just toying with Daniel, trying to hurt him was as important as winning. But, his motivation was cash more than just being a brute.

Keese and Silver are really the only two guys that are truly evil people.

Daniel was this sweet, nice guy from Brooklyn who was kind to people, but also learned how to beat people up. Nice show. Underdog nice guy wins. It's just Rocky, but without a jock as the star.

Fast forward to 2019, and Cobra Kai is basically saying, you know, there is nothing wrong with being a little bit of a cocky jock either. If you are naturally a masculine guy, it's OK not to hide that. Just don't be a dick.

So, two seasons in, and we have Johnny, the manly guy who is learning to be tough without being a dick. And we have Daniel, who has kind of turned into a dick as well, just in a very corporate way.

The show is awesome. I watched both seasons two weeks ago.

Last weekend, my 9 y/o daughter(who has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do) catch a little bit and got hooked to the show. Now she does not talk about anything else other than Cobra Kai. She even asked me to buy her the Cobra Kai t-shirt and hoodie.

Well I guess it took it coming to Netflix for it to catch on.

We were pimping this show 2 years ago on YT Red (See page 1.). Just had to do a free trial then. And I tried to get people I knew to go watch it.

Now I'm hearing it talked about everywhere. Had our fist in person poker game in 6 months and the same guys I was telling about it 2 years go now are binging it and loving it.

I bought a Cobra Kai dojo t-shirt around that time which I love.

Same! I told everybody I knew about cobra kai two years ago. Now I have all my friends calling me saying "I should have listened. This is awesome!"
So happy everybody is able to enjoy it and so happy for its success!!! (My brother gave me a Cobra Kai shirt when I wouldn't shut up about it-see page 3)
