I loved season 1. Season 2 was ok but heavy on the teen drama. The last episode was awful. Being a teacher, it's hard to overlook the absolute stupidity of that episode. Season 3 was somewhere in the middle.
I thought the final of season 2 was over-the-top fantastic, and it had a great "cliff hanger" ending. It's FICTION.

I think it's human nature to critique something that you're more familiar with. Health care workers talk about how stupid medical dramas are. Cops do the same thing with cop shows. Ex military, lawyers, etc say do it as well. When I saw the fight in the last episode, all I could think about was how there were no teachers or administrators anywhere. I couldn't get past that.

Not being teachers, we all had the same thought, too. Then we got over it, and enjoyed it for what it was.

Did you miss the part where a teacher tried to break up a fight and got punched? And another says "f this" and walks away?

A) Accept the fact that a bunch of high school kids in SoCal break off into karate factions
B) Accept the fact that they all become freaking ninjas in a matter of weeks/months
C) A high school fight not being broken up by teachers in 30 seconds is just not realistic though

A. That is part of the teen drama that the show has taken that I don't like.
B. Another issue with the show and how I think its dropped from the first season is how all the kids have turned into mini Jackie Chans. These kids would beat the **** out of teen Daniel and Johnny.
C. That fight went on for like 5 minutes. The chick going on the loud speaker, the fight with a dozen kids covering the entire school, not being broken up, no teachers anywhere. I thought it was just dumb.

Even without the final fight, the whole season was meh. I loved the first season, but the second season dropped quite a bit for me. When the show doesn't have Daniel or Johnny in the scene, the quality drops. At least with season three they put more emphasis back on the adults.

I get a very different vibe. A few of the kids like Robby, Miguel, and Hawk seem either like natural athletes or look like they had prior training. Other than them, most of the kids look incredibly awkward and choreographed to me. Sam and Demetri are the worst

To be fair, Demetri's entire purpose is to be awkward

I've told any friends IRL when asked about CK and S3 in particular...

The kids have become a caricature of themselves and their parts are awkward as hell - contrived and over the top. But the Daniel and/or Johnny stuff is spot on and the nostalgia elements still work.

It's still worth it to me but I mostly eyeroll the kids parts and just don't think about it much.

I don't know how far along I am...want to say like 4 episodes. Trying really hard to watch this, but the cafeteria fight scene was sooo bad, and as a parent of teenagers, I'm like "No way this goes down at all these days, and if it did, it would have been broken up by teachers or campus security in like 10 seconds".

I know, I know, relax and just enjoy it for what it is.. But it seems like every 10 minutes something plot stupid is going on, usually with the teenagers. Like Macchio, wife is niiice. Not sure about the rest, should I keep going and hang in here?

If you don't like it at this point you might as well give up. It is what it is and you either love it or hate it.
Agreed. It is a silly 80's spinoff that is a campy version of 80's "bad ass". Either you like the carefree nature of it or you don't. If you don't, go watch Bridgerton.

Maybe watch The English Patient.

Just finished and my quick to the point thoughts:

-I thought it was a good, not great season. Probably my least favorite of the 3 so far.

-Really really glad Ali was not forced onto us the viewer w a long drawn out love story w Johnny again. It's just not realistic and I'm also rooting for the Johnny/Carmen ending.

-Tory is annoying AF.

-Love Hawks redemption even though it was kinda rushed.

-Zabka is money

-its pretty clear Silver is going to enter the picture in the next season or 2.

- Kumiko is way way hotter now than she was in 2

Am I the only one that finds the Johnny and Daniel scenes the only actual good parts of the show? All the kid actors are pretty awful. It wasn't so much that way in the first season, but it has trended that way starting in Season 2 and now Season 3.

I find Miguel pretty entertaining most of the time, his mom is one of the better actors on the show as well. Daniel is actually kind of bad as he's just not a great actor, but he and Johnny together are great.

Johnny and Kriese make the show worth watching IMO, Daniel's wife is pretty fun too.

Yea, Ralph Macchio is not the best actor, I just find his story line actually interesting.
Johnny Lawrence is definitely the main appeal to the whole show.

I might have to turn it on again, give it one more chance. Maybe I can forward through the kid parts. That's why I stopped.

This show is FUN.

I can handle all the terrible acting and the fake fight scenes, but the 80's nostalgia along with a good vs evil storyline, family-first and strong father messaging has created some fans in my house.

Just wish the language was toned way down. Their viewership would be much higher. Even the original KK didn't have the over-the-top foul language BECAUSE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A FAMILY SHOW.

I agree with the above. It's such a strange choice... the combo of Full House style family values then a random p%$&y comment or something similar. I think an R rated Cobra Kai would be cool, as would a G or PG rated version. But the way they insert random profanities into a family show is strange and off putting.

Don't get me wrong, Johnny is THE best part of the show. It's just a strange choice given the almost cringeworthy wholesomeness the show displays at other times.

The language is closer to R than PG-13. Nothing my kids haven't heard before but it's enough that I'm not eager to show it to them.

The violence is between PG and PG-13, probably closer to PG-13 with some of the blood they show. I wouldn't shy away from showing it to them due to the violence.

This is a show made for kids of the 80's but I don't think it would have been a bad idea to tone it down just a little in some areas. Would love to show this to my older boy. The bullying stuff is something they need to start seeing before middle school.

Even thought Will Smith and his brother in law bought all the rights to make the remake and are producers on the show, the Jackie Chan/Jaden Smith crap isn't part of this universe.

Agreed, this show is not meant for Family viewing. The intended audience is mainly us nostalgic guys in their 40's who burned through VHS tapes watching the original KK everyday of summer vacation. I didn't mind the language from Johnny, because it's part of his character.

I finally dove in and binged all three seasons. It was awesome. I saw KK 1 and 2 probably a 100 times. I have seen 3, but remember next to nothing. Sure they were great, but I never knew I needed more. I was wrong. I think this succeeds because they figured out from the start what Star Wars only recently figured out... give the fans what they want.
All the cameos have been a lot of fun. Looking forward to season 4. And I think we need to see more William Zabka... he is great.

Ps- how do all these people look 20 years younger than they really are?!?!?!

So is Elizabeth Shue done? I do not see much reason for her to come back unless it's to perform emergency surgery on somebody. I get the impression that she negotiated a one time appearance by the way they closed that episode out.

Did you guys notice how in episode one or two they had said a doctor was coming in from out of state, then just before the surgery they had a scene with Carmen and the doctor from out of state was in the background and her back was turned and she was a blonde woman. I'm pretty sure that was an attempt at feeding the internet buzz abut Ali being the surgeon to come in and save Miguel.
