Just saw the Trailer for The Mule, looks very interesting. Have you heard much about it? I hadn't heard anything about I until today

I know someone who's seen it and they said it's decent. Not great, but not bad either, which I guess is a step up for Eastwood as of late.

I have to say I've found this year pretty underwhelming. Last year got panned a lot but I genuinely enjoyed most all the Best Picture nominees I saw, though none blew me away. This year I've seen 5-6 of the movies I would think are in consideration and would rank as such:

1. First Man
2. Eighth Grade
3. A Star Is Born
4. Mid90s

I just checked Gold Derby and it has A Star Is Born as the favorite for Best Picture and Best Actress. I have to say I find that very depressing if that's the best movie this year. I liked it but didn't love it at all.

Moreover, this is the first time I can remember in a while where it's only early November and there is nothing the rest of the way I am truly dying to see. Roma and If Beale Street Could Talk would probably be the top 2 on my list to see.

Don't get me wrong I will see most everything. Probably going to knock out Blackkklansman tonight, but overall just feels like a very so so movie year again.

I have to agree that this is feeling more and more like an "off" year. Still quite a few potentially great films left on the horizon - in addition to the two you mentioned, there's Widows, Green Book, Creed II, The Favourite, Vice, etc - but yeah, I'm not really over-the-moon excited for any of those, and the lack of a Star Wars, or Star Wars-level blockbuster, in December really adds to that "off" feeling as well. I'm still hopeful for next two months, but yeah, this year certainly could have been better.

You're back! Your contributions have certainly been missed over the past few months. Glad to see you back in the discussion, though, and on the board in general.

And yeah, I saw Private Life as well last week and thought it was great. Would definitely recommend it.
