I should've gone there to watch because that is a sweet glass.

For me I didn't see it because to start I'm not a big comic book guy, though a film geek. I saw BvS on a busniess trip when I didn't want to sit in my hotel and frankly it wasn't great. I finally watched Wonder Woman last month and thought it was really good, but the few times it felt bad was the super CGI parts (her flipping tanks and doing Neo spin kicks in the town square battle). To put it simply Justice League looked like those small bad parts of WW to the extreme for 2 hours. The previews just looked HORRIBLE. The CGI fake beyond belief, and Cyborg looks ridiculous and shiny like a spaceship from the SW prequels. I just have no desire to see it in the theatre.

don't worry, DC still has 20k of them left and they're on sale for $5k each

Super hero movies should never get a pass.

Maybe this movie will be the saturation point that many have foretold and we'll finally get some better summer flicks than a superhero movie every three months.
SeattleAgJr
How long do you want to ignore this user?
saturation is not the issue here.

it is the crappy universe.
the unlikeable characters.
the overly-broody and not-in-character prequels

etc.

Thor is making bank at the same time.
Hagen95

That is my point in a way. Thor was released and two weeks later we get another super hero movie. It's competition in action and hopefully one of them moves on to some other topics because the market is saturated.

It is definitely saturation as well.

not sure you can say that.

the marvel movies are ALL making money

There is anticipation for BP
even more for Avengers III
Same with Fox's Deadpool 2

Yes, Aquaman is still a year away, and X-Men does not have much momentum, but that is due to the lackluster AoA. New Mutants may even surprise.

I don't think it's so much about a comic book movie being followed by another. Anticipation of a good experience will trump any perceived super hero fatigue. Spider-Man followed by Guardians 2 and Thor proved that.

This current talk of whether the super hero genre will fizzle out is way immature as long as the movies themselves bring something new to the table. And that's what Marvel has proved to be able to do in the past year.
MooreTrucker

I agree with that. We've talked about the different kinds of movies Marvel brings - a heist film, a political thriller, etc. - that are really good movies disguised as comic book movies. As long as the movies are good, they'll keep working.

Saw it Tuesday. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting but it wasn't very good either. Better than BvS (because no Jesse Eisenberg), but not as good as Wonder Woman or Man of Steel.

Big gripes were that there was next to zero backstory for Aquaman, Cyborg, or The Flash, and not enough threat from Steppenwolf. He was beatable pretty much by Superman alone which minimized how sinister he could be. Didn't care too much that Aquaman was basically Aquabro in this iteration.

Gal Gadot is a smoke show and you can tell she was basically told "we have you here to look sexy in every shot you are in".

I laughed that there is basically a Cyborg - Skynet connection since Joe Morton is his dad.

That is terrifying. I mean I love Gal, but I don't think I could sit through it five more times. Wonder Woman? Yes. Justice League? No.

woof....man that was not good.

I'm not sure where to begin, so i'll just start at the beginning:
  • WTH was up with that pointless cell phone footage scene?
  • My god WTF is wrong with Superman's mouth?! HOW does THAT happen? How does a studio ALLOW that to happen? It was glaringly awful EVERY scene and I found myself more involved with what his mouth was doing than what it was actually saying in the dialogue (which may have been a net positive).
  • I don't understand Batman's opening scene...he was tracking a thief to lure one of those parademons? and the actual combat/hanging flying scene was campy as hell. and then let the thief go? Such a sloppy opening.
  • CGI in the entire film was terribad. From Superman's mouth, to the Batcave, weird tentacle roots, Fake AF cornfield...Cyborg's face was the only aspect I found competently done (his body sucked tho). This was the most gratuitous green screen porn I've seen since Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit - BOTFA." And the quality was just as bad.
  • Batman couldn't find Barry Allen.....but he was able to find his 'lair'? What was the point of having the prison guard alert him he was visiting his father if he already knew where he was hiding?
  • Sooo if "Wonder Woman" was +1 for feminism...JL has to be -2, no? So many obvious close ups of her ass and 'undercarriage' in this movie. It was like the director knew the only people they could please with this film would be men just looking to ogle Gal Gadot. The rest of the movie made her look like 'mother goose', incapable of making her own decision.
  • Atlantis was a freaking joke. We got all of 2 min with it and they didn't show ANYTHING. If there was one thing this movie needed, it was an Aquaman setup film.
  • Superman's revival....ugh
  • His appearance against Steppenwolf should have felt triumphant, but instead he throws a couple punches and then has to jet out because "civilians?" It was so herky-jerky and none of the conflict felt like there anything huge at stake.
  • Steppenwolf got the 'mother boxes' aaaaaannd....nothing happened.
Gonna have to rapid fire these, or I'll have to type out 100,000 words to adequately express how sloppy and bad this movie was...

  • The Flash's running motion literally made me LOL (unlike any of the intentionally funny scenes).
  • What exactly happened when Batman grappled the Flash while he was running? Was that supposed to happen?
  • Soo Wonder Woman can move faster than a bullet.....cool.
  • Why is Batman dumb?
  • Cavill still has the charisma and charm of a potato. Looks the part - can't act the part.
  • The dialogue was soooooo terrible. When Lois told Superman he 'smelled good'? or when he responded how it felt to comeback 'it was itchy?' And the one-liners weren't any better: "I didn't bring a sword"...."At least I didn't bring a pitchfork"...."booyah"...."Hell yea"...."I work with children" -- I couldn't handle the ****ing one liners. They were too ****ing cheesy.
  • What happened to the score? I literally can't recall any music. Did they even utilize WW's theme? or Superman's theme? (Both are really good)

I'm sure there's much more, but like WB, I'm throwing in the towel. How THIS movie is allowed to be made, is baffling. In this over-saturated market of superhero films, JL has the highest ceiling. It SHOULD rise above any of them. DC has better heroes and villains, but what WB is allowing to happen is a joke. This whole universe needs to be imploded. Affleck is done. Cavill is done. You can't have a JL with two lame duck actors portraying Batman and Superman.

Start over. Start right. Build from the ground up. No shortcuts. Storyboard a JL movie with 1 vision. Cut your production budget in half and focus on character development. We don't need 20 min long CGI battles if it sacrifices the motivations of the heroes (and villains) fighting in them. I want to know more about Barry Allen. I want to know more about Aquaman. I WANT to know more about Steppenwolf. Give that to me and you can keep the 'surfing parademon through a building' scene.

Agreed about what they did to WW in the movie. The first time I saw them film up her skirt, my friend and I looked at each other like "that didn't just happen, did it?" And then proceeded to happen throughout the entire movie. Seriously bad. Thank god for Patty Jenkins though. WW2 might be their saving grace.

I don't get it. I have zero interest in seeing yet another pure Snyder mess of Randian philosophy and washed out colors sucking the joy and life out of everything. The film is predominantly his. A few scenes aren't going to change the overall result.

I agree completely. But it's another interesting article that chronicles the difference between the cuts. I find that kind of stuff fascinating.

Seconded.

And while I trust Whedon immensely more than Snyder as a storyteller, there are some scenes that sound like they had some value that were left out, particularly regarding Cyborg. I needed a lot more reasons to care about him.

I do too. I'm always curious about what might have been. It's the folks who think it would have been a better movie if Snyder's vision was the only vision that confuse the hell out of me.

Was it Whedon's decision to cut the runtime? Or did the WB brass say "cut this below 2 hours," and then Whedon had to figure out how to do that and make it fun.

That would inform a lot of the decisions of what to cut and what to change.
Thanks and gig'em

This is some weird stuff. Hey guys, they're not real. Reminds me of the guy who gets all worked up over pro wrestling.

Forgot to mention, the intro song was pretty rubbish. Missed opportunity to hamfist in "Superman's Dead" by Our Lady Peace. Glimpses of Batman, Superman, and Wonderwoman themes that I could pick out were nice though.

I liked the movie a lot, but can't help but think they rushed to a Justice League movie too quickly. They could have had a few more solo or small team up films to get everyone going and moving toward a common threat or goal first.

Yep it was very obvious every time the 5 note motif played. Shouldn't be surprising since Elfman did the score.
