This is exactly how I use RT scores and when I think they're useful. A score will never keep me from seeing a movie I really want to see, but it does help me with movies I'm on the fence about. Dark Tower being a perfect example. I never read the books and only vaguely knew the story. If the movie got over an 85 percent, I may have decided to check it out. It got a low score, so I don't really have a desire to see it. I really high score got me to see John Wick in the theaters. The trailer made it look like a generic dumb Keanu Reeves action movie, which it was, but in a totally bad ass way.M.C. Swag said:Totally agree, but I don't think RT is ever the sole decider of movie goers. If there's a movie I really want to see, I'm seeing it. Star Wars the Last Jedi has my money no matter what. Anything directed by Christopher Nolan has my money, no matter what. I won't allow any RT score to influence my desire of movies I WANT TO SEE.Brian Earl Spilner said:
I mean I usually glance at them just to get an idea of what the reception has been, but I never let it influence my thoughts on the movie or let it prevent me from watching something I want to watch.
I've been burned MANY, many times, in both directions. (Really high scores for meh/bad movies, and vice versa.)
Where it comes in to play, personally, is for movies I'm either lukewarm on or have no prior knowledge about them. It can be a tie breaker, basically.

This is so f-ing weird...
People put way too much stock into those scores. They're ultimately meaningless.

Dark Tower was a unique pass for me. I was planning to watch it Friday night because I will almost always watch that genre of movie regardless of reviews because I can usually find something entertaining about it.
In this one case, I read the description on DTV and then noticed the run time was 1h30m. Not that I hadn't already but that was my literal WTF moment with that movie. To condense a 9(?) book magnum opus into one movie that is only 1h30m at that?!
No thanks. I'll never watch it out of protest at this point.
You can use the same logic for some in the thread that have decided:TCTTS said:

But deciding you're going to like it before even seeing it = cool.
Sure.
Quoting my own post in order to add this:MooreTrucker said:i think the "nothing villain" is the key here. Without a good villain, there's no emotional stakes, etc.TCTTS said:
And I thought it was DC that had the good villains and Marvels were kinda sucky.
Quote:
A common criticism that follows Marvel Studios is that their movies each have essentially the same plot: reluctant hero finds themselves/their team in possession of a super power or weapon, but then villain finds said power or weapon, and the hero(es) must find it in themselves to save the world but with different superpowers and superheroes. It's a fair critique, but what's even more noticeable is how it underscores the fact that Marvel's villains, no matter how enduring or powerful or enigmatic they are in comic books, often fall flat when they make the leap to the movies.

Better than SS and BvS, not as good as MoS. (from the critics, anyway)Quad Dog said:

Do you recall at what point Whedon took over? How far along into shooting were they before Snyder stepped aside?Simplebay said:
Just heard from a buddy of mine in the know.
Apparently the studio and Whedon actually saved this film. Prior to the reshoots Snyder had gone full Sucker Punch on this, and it was devoid of anything enjoyable. The final hour was practically reshot. None of the humor and tone was there, and it of course was much longer.
Eeek.
That being said it went from abymysal to simply ok, apparently.
I see it Thursday night.

I'm really into the idea of the turning of the tides, and how the last couple thousand years of human history have been so male-dominated in a way that has not always served us clearly, here we are on the brink of destruction and so I wonder if you would say something for me. Would you say into the camera, 'Hetero-patriarchy, your wrath upon this world is over?' I want it so bad. Hetero-patriarchy, your wrath upon this world is over.'
what a dip***** Before, I just didn't like the suit, now I don't like the actor in the suit.Chad Thunder said:

This is a good marketing strategy by the WB, alienating half your audience. What moron thought this would be a good idea?Quote:

Ezra Miller has turned out to be a horrendous choice for the Flash.
Props to Gadot for not stooping to his level.Flashdiaz said:what a dip***** Before, I just didn't like the suit, now I don't like the actor in the suit.Chad Thunder said:

There is no debate. 93% is a perfect movie. Anything over is ratings inflationQuote:
I've agreed with RT scores far more times than not, though with the understanding of how they work (ie, the 93% debate).
This movie will make $800M. That's not a failure in the eyes of the studio.SeattleAgJr said:
Hopefully the failure of this movie puts a nail in the Flash movie.
It is really not needed. We have a perfectly good TV series with a much more interesting Flash.
BvS made $863 million and WB was disappointed it didn't make $1 billion. They only made about $100 million profit (all numbers from Wikipedia). Justice League has a bigger cast, multiple directors, a lot was spent on reshoots, and it has to have a bigger marketing budget (I see it advertised everywhere all the time)AgMarauder04 said:This movie will make $800M. You have no idea of the initial costs, then the additional reshoots under Josh.AgMarauder04 said:This movie will make $800M. That's not a failure in the eyes of the studio.SeattleAgJr said:
