I got more of a San Fran/ Oakland vibe. But even then, Fishburn being so adamant about ignoring Gotham was odd.
Fair enough.

Kevin Smith has a longer (1hr) review of the film on youtube, after his second viewing and its kinder in certain spots because he got to nerd out with Jason Mews over the Parademon in the future sequence.

He made note that EVERY scene in the film was touched on in the three trailers and that killed a lot of the excitement. (I make the comparison to TDKR, we had no idea who Marion Cotillard was suppose to be, Nolan kept that shtt under wraps, but if the trailers have her fighting along side Bane and they talk about the League of Assassins and Ra's, its not difficult to piece it together before opening night.)

Why does the Flash not just go back in time to before Man of Steel and let Clark Kent know what all is going to happen (Zod, Lex, etc)....

Could have averted all the death, destruction, and butthurt.

If even just WW's initial reveal, when she "saves" Batman, had been kept out of the trailers, TOTALLY different impact when she appears on screen. And then opening weekend buzz would've been "WW shows up and it's awesome!"

This constant plot hole is usually handled in Flash comics by virtue of the fact that time travel is common among his enemies as well. Sort of balances it. That doesn't really work in crossover titles as much unless they are Flash-centric, and, spoiler alert, it's probably not gonna go over in the JL movies, either.

But they've handled all the details so well this far...

Saw it today. Nothing new to add. First hour was kind of WTF is going on? Lots of scene jumps, no consistent story. Gets better, and the WW scenes are cool. Didnt like the bombing at the capital. Kin d of out of nowhere, huge event that just disappeared from the story.

Also, why was Supes blamed for the crap in Africa? All the guys were shot. Supes is now carrying guns and killing people? And Lex is making special bullets. Why? What purpose did this little on going piece of the story lead to?

And lastly, $18 for an imax 3D ticket? Last movie I see in theatres for awhile.

They had to give Rachel McAdams something to do.

That's the major difference between good superhero films and boring ones. No one is watching iron man for pepper potts piecing together a pickled plot point. The worst part about Thor films are the Portman scenes that just explain minor plot ideas.

Terrible movie! Was that supposed to be Wonder Women thrown in at the end? Has America been yearning for a flat Wonder Woman or something? Geeze, this movie may be the only other thing than kryptonite than can kill Superman!

Boy this movie was bad in a lot of ways. Plot makes no sense. They basically took parts of two of the greatest DC comics of all time (Dark Knight Returns and Superman: Doomsday) and throw Lex Luthor in the middle of it, who has motivations that are never explained, make Batman a psychic apparently, and Lex has knowledge of Darkseid's pending arrival for no reason. Man this movie was jumbled garbage, WB has to get away from Zack Snyder he is destroying their chance at a great film.

However I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked Batfleck. It did give us more of a "detective" Batman that we haven't seen that much in live action so that was good.

Everything else was a complete mess.

Also, at the end Batman wants to find the meta humans? I remember Batman not even wanting to be in the Justice League, he joins them with extreme reluctance.

"Batmad" is my favorite adjective to describe the Batman of this film.

The "greatest detective Batman", imo, doesnt hold water in this film compared to the Nolan one. (fingerprints from ballistics, radioactive marking mob cash, piecing together mob connections, etc).

In this film, he just hacked a computer, beat confessions from people. When the UNITED STATES CONGRESS is bombed he spends a full 20secs contemplating the attack. Doesnt question how his broke employee snuck explosives into a subcommittee hearing. Just blindly accepts a unabomber theory.

"gee an eccentric billionaire who competes with my own fortune 500 company is collecting data on metahumans, for what reason?"

I will say this song was worth the price of admission imo. If studios keep injecting God of War-esque music into films to get the tone right, I will have less criticisms.

Got out of the movie. I really liked it - enjoyed the film, and was very pleased with the way it turned out. Not really sure what garnered such poor ratings, but I haven't read a single post on this 14 page thread, so I'm looking forward to finding out how stupid I am.

Talk to y'all in 2-3 days when I finally get through what will then likely be 19 pages.

Agree with tons of the complaints....especially in regards to motivations....but as a popcorn action movie I enjoyed it enough. Think they did enough to setup the WW back story movie and justice leagues

Reading the latest posts, I think I figured how they could have saved this movie. Ditch any thought of it being a Superman sequel and make it a Batman movie with Superman as the villain.

Not sure how the conflict resolves, but maybe: Bats is collecting alien tech from the battle to try and analyze the alien threat and Supes is trying to get it all for himself, to preserve in his alien ship/fortress of solitude. Ultimately they end up in a battle that Batman wins, and under the resulting interrogation discovers that the really dangerous components were being collected by Lex, so they team up to take him down and keep the tech out of Luthor's hands. Something like that.

That wouldn't work for me because I actually like Superman, unlike most on here. He is not a villain.

I can barely tolerate what the screenwriters have done to Supes so far.

I'm gonna help you out here. Don't ever see 3D. It is never worth it. Don't ever see IMAX unless it was filmed for IMAX or if it has received really good reviews.

Just watched it yesterday, there are too many things that don't make sense but ultimately they just tried to go too big. Totally didn't need to make this a massive team fight vs Doomsday, Doomsday shouldn't have been in this thing. They didn't have to do Batman vs Superman. They basically just rehashed Man of Steel again, destroying the world.

They could have done a really solid movie just as Batman being a detective and Clark Kent a reporter going after Lex Luthor collectively. This is the first team up in the DC cinematic universe and they are already alluding to Darkseid destroying the world? DC and Zach Snyder need to pump the brakes and slow it down.

I thought the acting was fine, I have no issue with Affleck as Batman, but the story was crap with tons of holes. They just seemed to want to put Doomsday in a movie, and it made no sense at all.

Oh, and they already killed Superman? Come on.

Oh no, see, because the battle was in an uninhabited port area of the city....whichever city it was.

And somebody explain the Darkseid reference thing to me. I don't remember them talking about that. What did I miss?

I thought that music at that time was great. Really said "This person is so badass, she gets her own fight music". It could have been so much better if we hadn't already known that scene was going to happen from the trailers.

You have to wonder what lessons Warner Bros is taking from this whole thing. There are many to be gleaned - don't risk it all on one big film, don't create a tone that repels the audience, don't spend three years pushing a movie, don't make a movie that is intended just for the hardcore fans - but the one I hope they walk away with is a simple one. It's the lesson that explains the success that Marvel has found, and it isn't about being comedic or silly, as many of the studio's detractors think. The lesson is this: create characters we like. It seems so simple that it's almost dumb to say it, but it's true. Batman v Superman created ******* versions of the titular characters, versions that are hard to like. They may be cool or badass or whatever else, but they're not likeable. I don't want to spend time in a movie hanging out with this version of Superman. He's not charming or interesting. And when he feels bad (which is most of the movie) I don't feel bad for him, I feel irritated by him.

^ Thats exactly it!

Growing up as a kid I was a Spider-Man and Daredevil fan, that's it. But right now, at the age of 40, watching these movies with my son, I cant wait for Cap 3 in a month because Marvel has built a universe and characters that we're invested in.

DC/Warner Bros seems to be operating under the assumption that I should just automatically care about this movie simply because Batman and Superman are in it. Who needs to build a plotline, flesh out a world, and connect to characters? Just jump right into the Justic League in the second damn movie!

From that same article....
quote:
Batman and Alfred are very likeable and their interactions are the highlights of the movie - but a film like Justice League needs much more than that. It needs not only characters I enjoy hanging out with, it needs to be putting them together in interesting and unexpected ways. The Marvel movies aren't a hit because of the action or the FX, they're hits because people like the characters and they get excited seeing them talk to each other.

I need to quit going back to his arguments but Kevin Smith.....said that the overall tone of this universe is a joyless world. All the characters are stern, weighed down by responsibility, and ominous reprocussions.

They went the Nolan route but stripped away anything endearing of any character. We all kinda liked Alfred and lucius fox, the Joker was hilarious, tadah! Or the hospital bombing. You could get joy, however twisted, from some of those films. Mos and bvs have not a single ounce of charm in them.

You don't have to go full talking racoon either. But the mcu certainly has a reputation to deliver a film that will make you smile regardless of how bad the film was. Think Thor 2, it was crap, but their tadah had me rolling, loki morphing into Steve Rogers, the scientist running naked at Stonehenge.

Pretty good article. Not everyone needs to be someone you'd grab a beer with but they need to have some kind of chemistry. When I picture the JL right now, I see a bunch of people sitting at a table, scowling and not talking to each other.

Bruce: <batvoice> I gather you here today to fight for Martha's everywhere.
Allen: What?
Bruce: <batvoice> You see my mother and the dead alien's mother were both named Martha, they were both victims of crime; they embodiment of humanity with a dash of Oedipus.
WW: I knew Oedipus, loved tits...
Aquaman: anyone have lotion? My skin is dry A.F.
Bruce: <batvoice> guys we are getting off topic. According to my sensors, the world <Allen mouths "Martha"> has an alien fleet approaching. <points to the screen> They are coming from quadrant 1, 1A, 2B.
<Cyborg explodes!>
