Jason Todd is my favorite character in DC. (Even though I don't care for the current story line.) It will break my heart if they make him the Joker.

The main point in favor of a Robin being Joker for the films (IMO) is that, if Batman kills, there's no reason for him to leave Joker alive. So perhaps this is the second iteration of a Joker, with an even more personal motivation.

It also sounds pretty convoluted, like BvS. But at least it'd be different than the Jokers we've seen already?

Don't forget ***** tits Damian Wayne aka Robin #4.

Jason Todd is a great character in the DC Universe and if they did a solo Affleck film, I'd love for them to cover Red Hood. As for the Arkham games, I don't think there is a better version of Batman outside of them and the DCAU. Thought they did an amazing job with story and incorporation of all the characters. Even the weakest installment (Origins), was still fun to play.

Joker is also young. Too young to be a thorn in Batman's side for 20 years.
Leto is 44.

8. I think WB expects to hit us with a big twist down the road that Joker is actually Robin gone insane.

You're the second person I've seen say thIs, and it makes zero sense to me. What did you see in the movie that made you think this? Or is this based on a storyline in the comics?

See Jason Todd. It's a story that has been done multiple times, most recently from the Arkham video games. The Joker torturing him until he goes insane while making Batman think he was murdered is a storyline that has been done before.

As for Batman leading the Justice League. It's pretty much always been Batman and Superman as the primary leaders where Batman is the strategist and such behind the scenes and Superman is the public face of the league (along with Wonder Woman). The Trinity has always been the core of the JL and everyone looks to them for final decisions.

Yeah, but he never became The Joker.

And thanks for the informative post, SP.

Yeah, I find Damian kinda annoying (as do many others from what I can tell). His backstory is actually a pretty cool concept though.

Agreed that Red Hood could make for a great solo Batfilm, although I wonder if Snyder's BvS Batman/gun stance kind of ruins what could be a driving force for that concept.

I think that is why they want the twist. Its dumb in my opinion because you need an original joker for him to turn Harley. Unless again they completely throw away what we know about the Joker and do their own origins using Jason Todd as the only joker.

Disjointed????

So pretty much like trying to read comic books? Since forever.

I will agree it is like they let comic book writers (who are generally awful) handle the first hour and a half.

There are a lot of comic writers who could write circles around this script.

I can think of 3 or 4 better ways of getting Superman out of the picture without killing him off just off the top of my head.

Snyder...

I guess because of my nerdery of comics when they introduced Doomsday there was the possibility of Sups dying in my mind.

Also remember Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker where the Joker tortures Tim Drake and puts some sort of microchip in him that turns him into the Joker when he's older.

I'm still trying to understand why he wants to make JL basically a giant homage to Kurosawa's Seven Samurai.......

Damian in the current line of DC's Animated films has been a nice change of pace for someone who was mostly familiar with the DCAU of old. IMO it has changed Bruce's character in a way that I wasn't sure was possible. Not being familiar with his comic version, his impulsiveness in the movies is kind of annoying but I admit that I do like how he has changed throughout the animated films.

Besides a Red Hood film, a film with Nightwing and Batman would be great too. I've been waiting a long, long time for a live action Nightwing film.

Snyder...
The more I've been thinking about it the more I keep feeling one of the critics that said Snyder actually hates Superman is right. I think it was Faraci. I mean from having Pa Kent actually go maybe you should let a buncha kids die, to forcibly putting in MoS a situation for Supes to kill even after consulting everyone at DC who begged him not to and Nolan adamantly telling him that he couldn't do that. BvS doesn't start off with the 100th iteration of the Waynes dying to connect us to the Martha moment, it's cause Snyder is praising the Gods he gets Batman in his sandbox and doesn't have to try and pretend that he enjoys making a Superman movie.

BES, I believe it's mostly more of a fan theory conclusion jump (and hopeful justification of that godawful DAMAGED tattoo on his forehead) than a strongly hinted likelihood at this time. Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker is the only thing I can think of that has a Robin becoming a Joker. Also, holy crap Leto looks good for 44.

I thought Son of Batman was pretty good though he is a bit of a brat. I read We Are Robin, a generally fun book for anyone interested, and in the recent Robin War event he had an interesting role in feeling like he had to assert that he was the true Robin.

I'm with you on Nightwing, big fan of the character myself and could make for something a bit different than we've seen on screen before.

I was expecting it to suck. I was pleasantly disappointed. It is not perfect, but it certainly didn't suck. There were issues with pacing and it was overly long, but that's about it.

Affleck was a good Batman. Hopefully his solo flick will be strong.

I may be way off base here, and if I am, I apologize.

But did Zack Snyder make his whole career post 2009 on the genius of having Malin Akerman naked so much in Watchmen? That seems to be his last good decision.

This brought up a point I thought of during the film and forgot to mention. Why exactly was Superman blamed for a bunch of people being murdered in Africa?

They said something at the hearings that because of the power vacuum another group came in and slaughtered people. So they were blaming Superman indirectly for influencing political stability.

Little late but I thought the movie was almost complete garbage. Awful script, awful editing, nonsensical plot, complete lack of understanding of the characters with lazy or nonexistent character development.

Just awful.

Full Review with spoilers if you want to know more on why I thought it was terrible.

Thinking about people comparing this to Age of Ultron. AoU wasn't my favorite MCU film, but I think it's a stretch to compare it to BvS. I get how you could be put off by the fights with endless robots and that sort of thing. That might compare with BvS's sort of repetitive fighting. The Thor storyline compares with some of the BvS dream stuff.

What makes AoU so clearly a better movie than BvS are the truly great moments it has. Not just cool CGI or a wicked fight move, but story elements where we see the characters. BvS never touches the moments like the team trying to lift the hammer, or the Vision reveal, or the arrival at the Barton farm.

Nowhere in BvS is there any heart.

Tctts, random sidebar.. Casual movie fan here. In one of your retorts, you mentioned that you know storytelling and moviemaking inside out and don't need critics to tell you if good or not.

Can you give me the 30,000 foot view on how you simply and effectively evaluate a story? I think it will help me learn to evaluate movies a little more critically, something I want to lean.
If the story has glaring errors, it will be a terrible film
MooreTrucker

Define "glaring errors". Errors as to the stories in the comic books v. the movie versions? A lot of people are going to see the movie because it has Superman and batman, and have no idea about who/what Doomsday really is, or any of the canon of those characters other than the superficial. Is that what your talking about?

Maybe things like "why not have a 1-minute conversation and avoid this fight altogether" or "why not let Wonder Woman use the spear since she's not weakened by Kryptonite?"

I'm not sure, those are just two examples I see a lot.
