The dirt levitating off of the coffin at the very end of the movie was supposed to show you that he was about to come back to life.

Another random question I thought of when viewing some easter egg videos earlier: why was Wayne Manor destroyed in the film?

It looks something like the burned down ruins from the Nolan Batfilms, but we should be in a different continuity, right?

Yeah, this Batman should be completely different continuity I think so I'm guessing the burnt down manor is just another easter egg tidbit (like the robin suit) meant to be mined in the future if WB sees fit. I would take a wild guess that Joker's responsible but I have no idea.

Finally read that io9 takedown and it's perfect. Snyder is a menace. Help us Ben Affleck, You're our only hope. RIP Jimmy Olsen.

Found the real reason Superman & Batman fought. Batman was banging Ma Kent

I'm pretty confident they're going to show it in a future movie. I think they're going to fill in a lot of the gaps.

This is Ezra Miller, the actor who will be playing Barry Allen/The Flash in the DC Universe.

He's like 23 years old and super duper fabulous... He's been good in what I've seen him in (Perks of Being A Wallflower, Trainwreck) but how they decided he should be standing alongside Batman and Superman in the Justice League... I have no idea

Maybe they make him a gay superhero? Like you said, he is a great actor, but I have never seen him play anything that requires machismo. I don't think I can see him without picturing him in the Rocky horror picture show getup.

The "found the clips on Lex's computer" thing was horrible.

I felt like the Flash when the movie was over because my brain had gotten used to everything being in slow motion.

Another question that might have been covered.

Does this superman have freeze breath? I was wondering why he wasn't using that on doomsday, since he absorbs energy, being cold would lower his energy.

So after rewatching, I came out with the same conclusions....

1: Lois and her ridiculous bullet investigation never should have made it into the film.
2: The dream sequences were awful.
3: The meta human files were god awful.
4: based on one scene, I already dislike the flash.
5: the whole senate hearing thing was completely unnecessary.
6: Afleck saved the movie

I really hope fans come out with an edited version without the extra crap in it when it's released on BR. I think all it needs to be a fairly good movie is some dang editing.

Just got back from watching it and I think I enjoyed it, but sat there through the credits thinking wtf?! Did they really have to kill Superman twice? Nuke him and then bone him to death?

Saw it tonight.

Too much.

They tried cramming WAAAAAAAAY too much into the movie. They spent so much time cramming extra stuff into it that the story just got very slow. I think it would have been a much better film at 90 minutes long, and I agree the dream sequences were terrible.

I think the dream sequences will make more sense as the DC timeline gets layed out. It's evident from those sequences that Wayne suffers from some serious PTSD and has mentally compromised the values that made him Batman (not to mention that he's resorted to torturing peeps for info).

I refuse to make a judgment call on "The Flash" scene. I'd bet big money that scene will make more sense down the line, especially since he seemed to realize that he was "too early" midway through his sequence. Some people may not like that this movie spent a good portion of its time setting up Justice League, but I don't have an issue with it as long as the timeline melds together within the next few movies.

Also, kudos to the film makers for sneaking in a Chris Pine cameo.

Some of my random thoughts:

1) I didn't mind Batman killing people. Technically in the very first comics with Batman, they had him killing, etc without much remorse. But, it is a departure from most of what you've seen of Batman for much of his history.

2) Too much story to tell in one movie. It is like they are trying to jump into this universe with all these characters - I couldn't help but think they are trying to play catch up too fast with Marvel. The end result is sloppy. Even the cameos of Flash and Aquaman seemed out of place and forced.

3) The scene were Batman has a sudden change of heart for Superman was really sudden, and just seemed stupid.

4) I liked most of the super hero actor's individual performances. Wonder woman is a bad ass. I think Afleck did well, but I thought he needs at least one stand alone movie before this one. They can shut up and take my money now if they put any Batman or Wonder Woman movies together. I thought Cavill was good, but not great.

5) I'll blame the director on this, but nothing came together too well for me, despite what I thought were some good isolated performances.

6) I didn't care much for Lex or Lois. Side note: I really wanted to see Batman brand Lex at the end, just because he was irritating to me.

7) Doomsday - Ok, but nothing special.

I agree with all but #2. I think it will make more sense with next movies.

Even if the dream sequences relate to things in future films, they still make no sense. Why would Batman be dreaming about Darkseid, who he has no idea exists?

More than that actually. Darkseid's immense physical, mental, and psychic presence is enough to cause these kinds of dreams. He has extremely vast mind control powers, it is completely within his power to cause strife and discord on any place he plans to go. This is likely also why Lex Luthor went completely nuts at the end of the movie, he saw Darkseid and Apokalips during his time in the scout ship (hence the phrase "Devils don't come from the ground, they come from the sky").

Basically, Darkseid is coming!

I love the allegory but I understand to non-comic book fans, it's going to be confusing as ****. Darkseid is THE comic book villain, so I hope the DCU does him justice.

I have no problem with them setting up the big bad for the JL, it has to start somewhere.

But, the way they did it here just didn't hit the mark for me. If it takes follow up research and discussion on a messageboard to understand, what about all the viewers who don't do that?

Does anyone think they're gonna remember any of the details from the dream or Flash's warning or Lex's ramblings and put the pieces together that it means anything?

Probably not, but I doubt anyone will forget Superman and Batman's mother's names. Has a plot point been more made fun of?

So I realize that for comic readers, Darkseid is probably the end all, be all for DC villains... and I get that a threat for the Justice League has to be a really big badass... but the fact that they are rolling out this guy:

after we've been given this guy by the superior studio:

Is really, really lame...

They're both the most powerful being in the Galaxy and they look like twins... it's boring. Not to mention the name. Darkseid? That's eye rolling.

And on top of that, we're also going to see this guy on screen...

the biggest, baddest mutant who ever lived. Only difference is he doesn't sit on a throne in space.

DC is just going to look like they're ripping Marvel off. No idea who came up with who first, but for movies that make billions... the majority of your viewers are not comic readers, and don't have any clue about these guys.

Ugh...dragged to this one.

- So opening credits we see Snyder openly ripping off Citizen Kane with Rosebud. Even focusing on Thomas Wayne's hand going limp.

- Decent tie-in to MOS, Bruce has reason to fear Supes

- Lex executes an elaborate set-up of Superman in africa, hinging on Lois getting the assignment for the terrorist story, never explains how Lex figures out Superman/Lois connection, just that he exploits it.

- As "detective-great" batman is, he neither knows/suspects Kent or Lex. The latter is more important after the Congressional bombing. He is not curious enough about how his employee who has not cashed his checks gets a bomb passed the highest security in the country. A national tragedy of unprecedented proportions and wayne reacts "well its the flying guy's fault!" The beacon of our Republic is in cinders and he doesnt apply more than 20 secs consideration on it.

- The alternate future/paradox-vision was interesting but made NO sense. The Flash said "save lois" or whatever to avoid Superman's wrath on humanity. But in BvS Lois was never in danger. It was "Martha".

- Which brings us to the spear. The worst f-cking McGuffin Ive EVER seen, not the spear itself, but the losing of it. Batman has just weaponized Kryptonian rock, he has found a way to neutralize supreme aliens, then he tosses it away like its some batarang. Thats not fair, he has more respect for batarangs and uses them sparingly. Then Lois drops it into an inexplicable indoor well that goes down at least 2 stories, ya know standard architecture that most abandoned port-adjacent warehouses have. (WTF IS GOING ON HERE?! SCREENWRITERS TAKING STUPID-PILLS?!) Then in the middle of the fight, when WW is fighting a monster Superman KNOWS is impervious to sht, he spends 5-10 mins of "but Lois, I have to" thats already fkking established, a creature is leveling your city, your only ally is barely holding her own, and you have to make sure this dumb sl-t has to process the gravity of the situation at hand. WTF?!?!

- Doomsday, as a character, was the only part of this movie that wasnt ponderous or illogical based on the established universe or established character traits. But even then Lex's motive to create him was left-field. Lets see, "Batman has a weapon to kill Superman, Im gonna pit them against each other, while I create a monster the Kryptonian library says is indestructible. So if Batman succeeds, I have a weapon I cant control. If Superman succeeds, I have a fight between two gods again (MOS) and I still cant control my champion."

- Which then gets us down to the motive of Lex. Everyone pumping this film said "he hates illegal aliens! its established in the comics! That was no where in the film!!! Not only that, he seems EXTREMELY comfortable around alien tech and a 2nd alien he creates. But lets assume yall are right, and he hates aliens, what is Lex's endgame with his actions. Even if it were killing Superman, he still ends up with a monster that is more destructive and less manipulate-able than Superman. If its ridding Earth of aliens so he can be the most powerful being on earth, once again no control/killswitch for Doomsday.

The ONLY logical theory, which is actually supported by the performance, is that the dude is just f-cking insane, he isnt making rational decisions, and therefore "anything can happen" because Lex is not calculating, he is just rubbing his nipples with Zod's fingertips.

If you think this film is good, I highly question your film standards and intelligence. Not that you should expect this to be oscar-worthy, but merely that characters and plots (ya know, the raison d'etre of a film) actually have purpose and logical advancement.

The only character that actually grows in this film is Batman, the rest are just action-figures that do X-events because the child playing with them says so. I wouldnt be surprised if the screenwriting was actually focus-grouping 8yos.

(PS, Jeremy Irons was the best Alfred, Caine comes off hamfisted by comparison. This Alfred looks like he is competent enough to actually help Batman....and kill John McLane.)

I think the majority of movie viewers had never heard of Thanos before the mid-credits scene in Avengers (I know I hadn't) but Marvel has developed that pretty well. I think you can rely on the comic book fans and message boarders to make enough of a big deal out of it to make all others want to see it.

Now, Marvel executed their rollout very well, so DC has their work cut out for them.

I agree about Marvel developing him extremely well. That's what Marvel does...

I've never heard of Thanos or Darkseid before these movies. Darkseid might be superior, he may have been first in the comics... but the bottom line is Marvel did it first, and better in the films.

Alright, this is one of the nerdiest things I've ever done, but I don't wanna go to the gym yet so I'm wasting time. I've compiled comments from the first ~42 TexAgs poster reviews to this thread and narrowed down the data. It's been fascinating to me, watching this play out. I don't know of many films that have been so divisive.

Here's what people tended to comment on the most.

The positive:
Ben Affleck: 18 positive comments, 0 negative
Jeremy Irons: 10 positive comments, 0 negative
Wonder Woman: 13 positive comments, with 4 "why was she in this film" type comments

The mixed responses:
Lex Luthor: 6 people liked him, 16 people did not
Superman: 3 positive comments, 2 negative. Not a lot of discussion on him, which is weird since he's one of the lead stars
Several people thought the second half was far superior to the first
Doomsday: it was hard to differentiate between the fight and the design of the character. Some good and some bad, I suppose

The bad:
Lois Lane: 0 positive comments, 6 negative.
Knightmare sequences: 11 negative comments
JL cameos: 6 negative comments
Batman origin rehash: 3 negative comments
Zack Snyder, script, pacing, editing, understanding of character: 15 negative comments
Revealing too much in the trailer: 4 mentions

As for overall grades, everyone used a different scale. I tried to consolidate as best I could. There seemed to be about:

2 that were an A or above
12 B+s
8 B-s
~6 in the C range
~7 that were D or below.

So there you have it. I am definitely a dork now.
